In your honest opinion, what was the song that best defined 2005?

Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani. It was a unique song and like I mentioned before in another thread, she made "BANANAS" the catchphrase of the year. :D

I'd say Mariah's We Belong Together because it basically represented her comeback and was a smash.

For me, in terms of favorites, a carryover from '04: Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams. Either that or Trapped In The Closet Parts 1 through 22.

Wow, I must be really out of touch. I've never even heard that song before.

Wow is right. Tell me that you've at least heard of it.

I know you like to take pride that you like a lot of artists that are not mainstream, but come on... don't lie

I had friends who were like that when I was in high school but deep down knew "Waterfalls" and "Gangsta's Paradise" even if they tried to act too cool for top 40 music

We Belong Together was definately the song of 2005 and could possibly be the first all-format hit in god knows how long. The song was huge in pop, r&b, ac, adult top 40, remixes were huge on the dance chart, etc... It was a definate example of a song that really did have wide-ranging appeal and it pushed sales of Mimi past five million, making it the #1 album of 2005 (it just passed 50 Cent's album up this week)

This is a very hard question! I would say either Hollaback Girl, We Belong Together, or Behind These Hazel Eyes by Kelly Clarkson.

HELL YEAH!!!

GO Mariah!

I also thought Gwen, Kelly, and Green Day had a great year too. But without a doubt, for me at least...Mariah.

I'm not lying. I honestly don't think I've ever heard that song. And I'm past that 'oh, listening to different music will make me cool' concept. Trust me, I gave that a shot to no avail. But atleast I discovered some great music in the process.
