Well, when you audition for a role that requires a relationship onscreen, they make sure you have a good relationship offscreen. They take each of the canidates auditioning and assign them to each other to do screen tests. Then, they just keep switching them all around until finally they have the perfect pair.

Really? I thought offscreen wouldn't matter, cause look at Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable, they hated each other offscreen, but were amazing together on Gone with the Wind :)

Maybe it was different with Miss Scarlett O'Hara... lol! but i do know for My Fair Lady they had to do a screen test. and i know for a fact they did with Cheers, cuz Shelley Long said in an interview that Ted Danson wasnt her original partner, but they switched and sorted and finally found the perfect onscreen/offscreen chemistry (even though they ended up hating each other offscreen around year 4)

:) Yeah it was probably alot different for that time period. They cast who they thought fit the part. It just happened that Clark and Vivien had some great chemistry ;)
