View Full Version : The Final Episode WAS NOT The Final Episode!
Dr. Thong 12-27-2005, 01:55 PM Okay, let me clarify the thread title a bit: During the last two years of Happy Days' run, I worked a part-time job nights after school. Therefore, I didn't always get to see the show because sometimes I worked on Tues. nights and didn't have a VCR at that time.
I didn't even see the final episode until it was in syndication, to be honest with y'all.
Anyway, I recently looked up Happy Days on a TV website and realized that while the last episode was aired in May of 1984, it was not the last first-run episode aired. Apparently, the network had several unaired episodes from the last season and decided to "burn them off" during the summer following the series finale - a common practice for shows that have been cancelled because the networks have already paid for the episodes, so they air them during the summertime when there are no new shows to be seen.
So, technically speaking, the final episode was not the final episode. Well, it was, of course, but you know what I mean.;) I never even knew HD aired new shows after the finale. It must have been weird, but cool for those hard-core fans who were aching for more Happy Days.:D

Dr. Thong this is Old Information-lol It's been known by many that CBS aired several eps after Joanie and Chachi's Wedding.

That'd be ABC. ;)
Mr. Television 12-27-2005, 10:58 PM so what was the final episode of Happy days and was their more last i saw was when Fonzie moved out and joanie chachi got married and Fonz adopted a little boy
All these episodes were set before Joanie and Chauchi's wedding.
I remember they aired that summer but I didn't watch them. As far as I was concerned the show was over.
TVFactFan 12-27-2005, 11:16 PM That'd be ABC. ;)
OOPS-lol Yeah ABC
Dean Winchester 12-28-2005, 03:46 AM A Different World befell the same fate if I remember correctly. A few episodes produced before the series finale aired after the last produced episode aired during that summer in 1993, with a couple episodes not even making the rounds until syndicated reruns

Kind of special in a way - just when you think you've seen it all, new episodes spring up in syndication. Nice!
TVFactFan 12-28-2005, 12:58 PM I guess it was kind of Odd since the episode Passages pretty much wrapped up the series. So for ABC to still air eps after that was a little silly
snl 70s show fan 12-29-2005, 03:12 AM i knew yhat abc aired new eps in the summer of 84 but i never thought about it like that i guess that dr thong gave all of us here something to think about here is something to think about but in the same vein most people forget that cbs aired a repeat ep of the mash finale oppsite the threes company finale in september 1984 so the real final brodcast of mash was not really on feb 28 1983 nor did it end its cbs run on september 19 1983 the real cbs final telecast of mash was in september 1984 i know it was a repeat and not new like the happy days eps were but i do wish more tv refrence books would point this out.
anglemark10 12-29-2005, 11:37 AM Reruns don't really count for anything. Once the final "new" episode of a series airs, that's it.
Dr. Thong 12-29-2005, 01:24 PM i knew yhat abc aired new eps in the summer of 84 but i never thought about it like that i guess that dr thong gave all of us here something to think about here is something to think about but in the same vein most people forget that cbs aired a repeat ep of the mash finale oppsite the threes company finale in september 1984 so the real final brodcast of mash was not really on feb 28 1983 nor did it end its cbs run on september 19 1983 the real cbs final telecast of mash was in september 1984 i know it was a repeat and not new like the happy days eps were but i do wish more tv refrence books would point this out.
Personally, I consider a show's last telecast to be it's last first-run telecast. As far as I'm concerned, MASH ended in February, 1983 and Happy Days in May, 1984.
And of course they aired reruns of the finales again...why wouldn't they?? One last shot before the new seasons begin. And I don't blame CBS for re-airing the MASH finale in 1984...because they could.:D
dave insinga 12-29-2005, 03:47 PM the shows final episode aired as far i know only aired once on abc that would be may of 1984.the actual final episode was fonzie spots in the summer of that year.
