View Full Version : Doobie Brothers episode-Part one: I found it odd that Raj

when he was interviewing the band for his school newspaper, the first question was: "What makes you the craziest?" something like that...WTF kind of question is that???? If I were interviewing a band, my first question would have been something along the lines of "How did you come up with the name Doobie Brothers?" (I know LOL) or "How did you get your first record contract?"

Also, remember the thread we had a while back abt the tape recorder falling and the audience "hushing" all at the same time? I seen the episode more closely and noticed one of the Doobies put his hands up to silence the crowd...the same motion one would make to get people to be quiet. I never noticed that. I guess that tells us how the audience was able to be quiet right on cue.

I really didn't want to respond to this because of who started the post but I don't think the question was dumb. "Where did you come up with the band's name" is such a boring question and they probably would have gotten to that question anyway.

Yeah, it's a comedy... if they do things true to life it may as well be a drama.

Though for the sake of debate, it's nice to pick episodes apart I suppose.

no they wouldn't have gotten to the question because it was only a half hour show and the writers needed to get "to the point" abt people like Al Dunbar. It was a stupid question. The writers could have had Raj ask a different question that would have led to that topic...or the writers could have been smart and done something entirely different to get Rerun to understand what he was doing was wrong.

Besides, that's what these forums are for...picking apart the shows, analyzing them, whatever...

Instead of me coming back with something negative I will just ask you to take a look at yourself. Instead of you being an adult and taking the high road you are arguing with someone half your age. As for no one liking me, I have friends and I do not depend on the Internet to find them or talk to them. You almost act like more of a child than some of the other kids I know. So while you are trying to tell me to grow up why don't you just try yourself before you ask me to do something that you aren't even able to do. I really don't have anything else to say to you except that it seems pathetic for us to continue arguing.

I seem to recall that TJ instructed you to just avoid me and avoid conflict. So why would you start it up when no one said anything to you? Just put your post on the thread without adding your little negative remarks to it. Me entiendes? Si o no? Largate de aqui...y vaya con dios!!!!

I was referring to one of your other posts when you told me to grow up. I think you are probably used to holding a strong position and telling everyone what is right and wrong. Guess what? I ain't one of your kids so don't tell me what to do honey or what is right and wrong. So as I said it is pathetic for us to keep fighting and you should just not talk to me if you don't like me.

Let's say Raj did ask the Doobies where they got their name from.

The reply: "Well...we named ourselves after a slang term for a marijuana cigarette. But you kids should never touch that stuff, okay? It's not cool!"

To which Raj replies: "Right on!"

I wonder if Al Dunbar sold some bad weed to the Doobies and this was their way of getting him back - letting Rerun take the tape recording of the concert back to him at "the soda shop.":D

Where was Raj's head when he was interviewing the Doobie Brothers??? Too much excitement in getting to see them, I guess...LOL
But anyhow, you have to wonder about Raj, overall...sometimes he could be down-to-earth and reasonably intelligent, and even carried himself as such. But other times, he can be so airheaded that it isn't even funny...Hmm.

We still love ya, Raj buddy (and I'm sure the Doobies did so, too--deep down. ).

Yeah, for real, Irene...at least, Raj can gain some weight and bulk up those pitiful little legs of his, a LOT.
Perhaps then he'd be a "halfway-knockout"?
(Pause moment, then...) NAAAAHHH...LOL

Anyhow, like his buddies and his sister, Raj had his quirks and when they came to light, they really stood out for everyone to see & take notes of.
Example: when Mama was kinda angry when he took the supermarket job, and he told her, "Dammit, I'm the man of this house, Mama, and you gotta let me be that...", etc.!

Bless his "confused" heart and all, Raj can sometimes act on something BEFORE thinking about it first...and nine times out of ten, when he does that, it ends up making him look like a total fool.

Getting back on the topic, I actually watched my DVD last night and Raj didn't ask the Doobie brothers "Who doobie do you be." When he asked that question he was actually calling for a press pass. And when he actually met the Doobie Brothers Raj first question he asked was their names and then he asked a question about what really bothers them and that's when they said bootleggers.

To answer your question, Dee was "with the fellas" because first & foremost, Raj was supposed to take her with him (something to do with Mama's instructions to him, to do so), and also she was curious as to who the Doobie Brothers really were.
And oh yeah, Dee was a natural brat...but a GOOD one!!! LOL, not kidding:rolleyes: :p

The even funnier part is that as grown, sassy, and mature as she was, she needed a babysitter?? She could probably handle herself better than Roger. She was the one who asked the Doobies could Raj interview them. He was in such awe.

Yeah, really...I wondered about that too. Dee, by that particular time, was darn-near 13, if not already, and basically Mama was making sure that nothing bad happened to her. Raj, to a degree, was doing the same thing.

After all, it was a given that they all lived in "unforgiving Watts"...
THINK about it, though.

Yeah, "What bothers you, what makes you the craziest?" Hmmm, the b**** and skeezers that be backstage. Those groupies are really annoying.

Still, the question is an open question, the group could have answered differently (each member) like, grueling tours, schedules; not spending enough time rehearsing; being away from family. Being away from family would have been an answer I would have given had I been asked that "open" question.

CindyRoxiesLair2006

...that so-called "open questioning" of the Doobies could have been done a lot better, like Irene suggests, and then it certainly would've yielded some pretty interesting answers from the band...possibly.

I know, i even stated that in one of my posts, but it was too rushed to "get to the point" of the bootlegger. Why not have him ask a question that led to that topic being brought up. Just bad writing i feel.

True. It's not like they had several hours or days to conduct the interview.

I mean, do the coincidental things in real life all happen to us within 22 minutes?? Nope!

I've taken screenwriting classes and one thing about them is that you watch movies and TV more analytically. You analyze dialogue, scene set ups and it's interesting to notice how things unfold. If dialogue isn't propelling the story along, it gets cut. That's why so many "deleted scenes" end up on the cutting room floor...and some of them on DVD!!

If sitcom discussions were "realistic" and like the ones that we all have, would YOU wanna watch 'em??? Nope! We'd all be asleep!

Ok sweetie, I know you don't like the analyzing of shows...
but it's fun to do this. if we didn't we wouldn't have anything to chat abt.
btw, I think a better way to handle the bootlegger thing would have been maybe having the band talking abt Al Dunbar while Rerun happened to listen in on them mentioning him. For example, the scene opens up with Raj just finishing the interview and then Rerun runs back towards the band to get an autograph and he overhears them saying they have their security in place hoping to see if Al Dunbar shows up at the concert. Rerun overhears this conversation and realizes what he is mixed up in and he goes back and tells the guys. Then it goes from there the same way we saw the episode. I am basically saying the writing for this particular area of the episode was not good. We don't need to hear an interview being conducted. Or even better, it could have opened up with Raj already more than half way thru the interview and he has a few questions left and we hear him ask the "What gets you the craziest" question. Either one of the scenarios would have been good. Not the way it was shown.

Irene,

I think you misunderstood my post. I LOVE to analyze shows. If I didn't, why on earth would I post here everyday? I meant that if shows had everyday conversations - I mean normal ones we have with people we know - the shows would be pretty boring.

I mean, sometimes conversations consist of "Hey, what's up??" "Not much" and other similar things.

I sometimes think I'm too anal about how I pick apart shows. Then I come here and realize that there are people worse than me!:D

I LOVE IT!!

I think from the way the conversation was going, they said Al Dunbar because he was the mastermind behind their other concerts. They may have had his name and not known any other bootleggers by name.
