I had a similar problem when doing Courtship of Edies Father.
The problem wasn't what I was doing.
It was that the show orignally was taped in Mono.
And my conversion was picking up the end feed (or so it was explained to me)
I unhooked the black av wire and my problem was solved.
Not sure this is the same problem, but its the only thing I can think of .
Other then the basic, adjust your sound features etc.
Sorry i can't be more help-
You can contact Dragonbear - he has some useful tips, and is the GURU of all sites big and small for such problems.
Hope this helps a little :p

Where do you hear the hiss? On the computer, or on the tv? Some DVD playback software has glitches in audio. PowerDVD, for example, is well known for adding hiss to MP2 audio when none exists.
