It's called Entertainment, and also they were doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. It was all in fun it wasn't suppose to have been taken seriously.

In the Traveling Christmas I didn't care that much for Michaels singing. But in Rent Party he did a great job.

His singing was mediocre at best. Good enough for a rent party I suppose, but nowhere near the quality needed to be a star. If he sang like he did at the rent party, I don't know how he made in on Soul Train either.

Very true on the Supremes bit. People weren't paying to see the performance, they were paying to keep a roof over Wanda's head. I would have paid just to get a closer look at that one guy's enormous fro.

Yes great job, you didn't read it wrong. On The Rent Party he had more energy. On the Traveling Christmas episode he looked like he didn't want to be there and was singing in a monotone style.

As a child, we can forgive the way they sing...he sang good as a youngster, when he got older and his voice changed, it wasn't the same.
the only person i know of whose voice didn't change when they hit puberty was MICHAEL JACKSON!:eek:

I wholeheartedly agree. No one claimed the kid was a singing phenomenon. He was able to stay in key and and he sung his little song in the "Renty Party" episode live which is saying a lot considering he was doing his silly little gay dance and while singing. Janet Jackson and Britney Spears wouldn't even ATTEMPT to sing live especially if their over-extended little brains had to concentrate on dance steps too. And let's face it, Ralph Carter sung LIVE as good at 13 as those two women sing with the aid of a recording studio. He was on Broadway because he WAS a little kid that could hold a tune and learn/perform dance steps. There were tons of celebrities that didn't have Michael Jackson skills tried to have hit pop records from The Brady Kids to the Cosby Kids (well, two of them at least). I thought Ralph did a fine job.

Don't forget when he and Janet Jackson destroyed Billy Davis Jr. and Marilyn McCoo's song "You Don't Have to Be A Star" in "That's Entertainment, Evans Style". That performance was terrible.

I thought the Traveling Christmas episode the song he did was not a good one for him to sing.

The Rent Party episode when he sung When You're Young and In Love he did an outstanding job. The dancing he could had left out.

You have to remember he was a teenager and probably his voice at the time was changing.

If anyone did some horrible singing was Florida. Esther Rolle cannot sing and when her, Willona, and Thelma did Stop in the Name of Love it was horrible.

I have to disagree. I love ralph's singing. I could listen to him all day. I loved him in the rent party singing and dancing.

He also sang "When Your Young And In Love" in the episode "The Rent Party" from 1976 (which was John Amos' final episode). He sang very well.
