I don't know abt that Retro...you know how shows love to add kids when the other kids have grown up...they have to add some "cute, loveable little tike"...YUCK!!!!!

I believe they'd eventually added Penny, but they wouldn't have used 4 episodes to introduce her.

What you just said makes no sense. First of all, Bookman's role was INCREASING while James was still on the show. Second, Penny was only added to the show because Florida and James were no Longer on the show. So why would Penny have been added in season 4? It's clear you like Penny more than Bookman

Penny would definitely not exist. The only reason she was added is because Willona was made the star of the show because Florida and James left. They needed storylines for Willona so they added Penny.

1.His role might have increased, but if James had stayed on it wouldn't have gotten as big as it eventually became. You wouldn't have seen his wife or seen him going over to Winona's and stuff like that.

2. Penny may have still been added because eventuallly they'd ran out of ideas. Most shows do add extra cast members even if all the original ones remain. IMO they'd rescued her from her mother and then she wouldn't have been seen as often. If James had been around then they'd given her an abusive dad/stepfather also, so that James would have somebody to get into it with.

If a show runs out of ideas, they add a CHILD, not a PRETEEN like Penny

On most shows that would work, but everybody on Good Times had to have problems. JJ's girlfiend is a dope addict, Raymond and Cletus gamble , Larry can't hear, Carl has cancer...etc .
It just fit in with the show for them to meet an abused kid and rescue her from the family.
