View Full Version : Out of Practice to Go on Hiatus
tv star collector 12-19-2005, 08:20 PM I just learned, from the current issue of TV GUIDE (Dec. 26, 2005) that OUT OF
PRACTICE will be replaced, beginning Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, with the new sit-
com COURTING ALEX starring Jenna Elfman and Dabney Coleman. OUT OF
PRACTICE is slated to return in March, though, on CBS.
erinsorkin 01-05-2006, 11:24 AM Well, according to TV guide, there's a Valentine's Day episode planned. In fact, it's called "Valentine Day's Day Massacred." So, if they're leaving Jan 23rd and coming back in March...what's up with that?
tv star collector 01-05-2006, 07:35 PM Well, I guess that shows how reliable TV GUIDE has become.
Wings#1ShowPeriod 01-07-2006, 11:47 PM I don't like the fact that its going on hiatus, but I can finally have time to catch up on Las Vegas for a bit. I can't wait though, when it returns in March.

Don't get your hopes up - "on hiatus" is often used as a euphemism for "cancelled."
I don't watch it, but I hope they do bring it back for people such as yourself, who are fans. No one likes to see their favorite show cancelled.

I wonder why? I know tomorrow's episode is a new one (Jan.9th). I thought the show was doing well.
robyrob 01-08-2006, 11:37 PM and thats the part that doesnt make any sense - they keep going on and on about how well it is doing, then they risk alienating fans by pulling this crap

I'm not saying for certain the show's cancelled, but one of my favorite shows, Boston Public went "on hiatus" two years ago this month and never returned...not even for end-of-the-season reruns. It was Fox's fault because they switched it from it's regular Monday night slot to Friday, which killed it.
I don't think it was ever a show that had huge ratings, but it held its own for three seasons on Monday night. I hope your show doesn't get cancelled, but don't hold your breath waiting for it to come back, either.

Yeah thats a FOX move there.
The show is definitely coming back in March. It was already picked up for a full season. It might not return on Monday nights though. It could be moved to another night and time. It's the number one new comedy in households and number two in viewers.
If Courting Alex does well and gets better ratings than Out of Practice, then Courting Alex will probably keep that timeslot. Yes, Dear and Still Standing both had their episode orders cut, so those series could be finished or pulled in March and Out of Practice could air on Wednesdays at 8:00 or 8:30PM ET/PT.
tv star collector 01-10-2006, 09:02 AM It's unusual (though not unprecedented) for a network to move a "number one"
show to a different night and time. Usually, that's a sign that a series has low
ratings and is a desperate move to attract more viewers.

Here's an idea for CBS to chew on, put 'Courting Alex' in place of 'Two And A Half Men', I for one, never watch it, and cannot stand Charlie Sheen.
theshark8777 01-11-2006, 05:35 PM Sorry I don't see CBS pulling their highest rated sitcom.

Two And A Half Men is the highest rated sitcom on TV. I doubt thats going anywhere anytime soon.

Uh...no! I watch it every week and think Charlie Sheen's a hoot.
Wheeler Sloane 01-14-2006, 11:33 PM Sorry I don't see CBS pulling their highest rated sitcom. It is not their highest rated sitcom. I have a feeling it won't be renewed for S2

I just read on the futoncritic.com that 'Out Of Pratice' is set to come back in March 22(wed)( new time slot) at 8pm. So it looks like the show may be in trouble here( hope I'm wrong). Once when they start moving shows around, you know what comes next.
