With less than two weeks until 2005 is history, it's about time we got our lists together. Looking back at the 2004 thread (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=127249) I wish I'd gotten Green Day's American Idiot earlier so I could've included it last year. I didn't get it until this year. I'm just including cds released this year. My list is just about done, I'm just doing some last minute listening before I finalize it.

Erika Jo - Erika Jo Heriges

I forgot about Erika Jo! She has a great voice, and I really love her album. It's too bad that both of her singles did horrible at radio. I wonder if she'll even get the chance at a second album.

I know what you mean, I only saw the "I Break Things" video a couple of times on CMT. I really hope she gets to make a second album, I really like the first one too!

1.Raheem DeVaughn - The Love Experience
(Nothing spectacular, just solid R&B songs from a guy with a nice voice and talent for catchy melodies.)

2.Speech - The Vagabond
(I think of this as the male version of "Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," in that he's singing as much as he's rapping, and he's equally strong doing both. The only reason I didn't put this at #1 is because some of it was previously released on older albums.)

3.Common - Be

4.Stevie Wonder - A Time To Love
(He's still got it at 55.)

5.Beck - Guero: Limited Collector's Edition

6.Trey Songz - I Gotta Make It

7.Earth, Wind & Fire - Illumination
(Despite all the guests, it's still a good EWF album.)

8.R. Kelly - TP3 Reloaded
(I admit lyrically it's crap, pratically every song is about sex. But production-wise it's great, every song is instantly catchy. Lyrically, I was entertained. It works as a comedy album.)

9.Madonna - Confessions on a Dance Floor

10.Leela James - A Change is Gonna Come

Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway It was re-released not that long ago with remixes and her videos, so it counts :p

New York Daily News music critic Jim Farber shares his list of the best, and worst of 2005:

BEST ALBUMS

1. BRIGHT EYES "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning"/"Digital Ash in a Digital Urn": Finally, a sensitive young poet with something to say.

2. THE MARS VOLTA "Frances the Mute": For the second time in a row, Mars created guitar music that breaks new ground.

3. MARY GAUTHIER "Mercy Now": At age 45, Gauthier cut her country debut, rife with tales of alcoholism, physical abuse and emotional breakdowns, all told with a chillingly dry eye.

4. JOHN LEGEND "Get Lifted": Soul with genuine sophistication.

5. LOW MILLIONS "Ex-Girlfriends": Adam Cohen, son of Leonard Cohen, offered heartbreak songs with a pop craftsman's ear.

6. ANTONY "I Am a Bird Now": The lush-voiced singer serenaded gender blending in a way that could make those of any sexual persuasion swoon.

7. KEYSHIA COLE "The Way It Is": Cutting-edge R&B, with the feisty character of a young Mary J. Blige - but with finer skills.

8. SEU JORGE "Cru": The Brazilian singer-guitarist put his own gorgeous stamp on samba.

9. COMMON "Be": Not only the catchiest rap album of the year, but the smartest.

10. NEIL YOUNG "Prairie Wind": A sweet meditation on mortality, recorded by Young at a time when he thought he might be facing it.

WORST ALBUMS

1. J.Lo "Rebirth": Even her fans wouldn't buy it.

2. MARIAH CAREY "The Emancipation of Mimi" A huge commercial comeback, but it sounded no brighter than "Glitter."

3. SHERYL CROW "Wildflower": A lugubrious attempt to remake Elton John's "Madman Across the Water."

4. BIG & RICH "Coming to Your Town": A proclaimed attempt to shake up country that wound up breaking no rules at all.

5.-7. A three-way tie for the palest rock album of the year: BO BICE "The Real Thing"; NICKELBACK "All the Right Reasons"; BON JOVI "Have a Nice Day."

8. OZZY OSBOURNE "Under Covers": The king of heavy metal offered his takes on John Lennon and Buffalo Springfield songs. Perhaps the strangest cover album since Ethel Merman did her disco disk in 1979.

9. THE MAGIC NUMBERS "The Magic Numbers": The most disappointing critical hype of the year. A harmony band without a solid sense of melody.

10. SHAKIRA "Oral Fixation, Vol. 2": Sounded like Gwen Stefani's album without the hooks.

BEST SINGLES
1. MADONNA "Hung Up"
2. THE YING YANG TWINS "Wait (The Whisper Song)"
3. THE KAISER CHIEFS"I Predict a Riot"
4. LOUIS XIV "Finding Out True Love Is Blind"
5. TEGAN & SARAH "Walking With a Ghost"

And the funniest part:

WORST SINGLES
1. R. KELLY "Trapped in the Closet" Part 1
2. R. KELLY "Trapped in the Closet" Part 2
3. R. KELLY "Trapped in the Closet" Part 3
4. R. KELLY "Trapped in the Closet" Part 4
5. R. KELLY "Trapped in the Closet" Part 5

pretty sad that R. Kelly has spent the better part of a decade and a half being one of the top and most prolific artists in r&b, and people even forgave him for pedophilia, and his way of capping a career is by writing 326 songs with the exact same structure, melody (or is that lack of melody?) and fifth grade narration.

I don't consider myself a fan of his, but I did like "Happy People" and a few other songs, but while his album hit #1, I would argue that "Trapped In The Closet" will go down as his career nadir.

Trapped In The Closet - Chapter 402

I am sitting in this chair not far from the old front door
and I am writing this song while I'm experiencing every word in it
why isn't anyone knocking on my door?
I'm R. Kelly and I think that I deserve it

I take two steps and begin my way into another room
I notice a image in my mirror that doesn't appear to be groomed
I said "hey, who the (beep) are you?!?!"
and all he did was mock the words I did, it was so not cool

I pulled out my gun and said "what the (beep) you think you're doing?"
and all he did was lipread along with me, I wanted that (beep) dead for his identical movement
he pointed the gun at me and I said "oh, don't you dare"
"I'm R. Kelly and you have no right to pretend to be me because I'll (beep) put a cap in yo ass if you keep it up"

it became a showdown...
I pointed at the mirror
he pointed back at me
he is such a (beep) poseur
I pull the trigger
the mirror it smashes
I think I'm going delusional
Tim Allen then rings the doorbell... doorbell... doorbell....
