SOS: Save One Show! Yes, it is that time of year again when many of the TV shows we love are getting the axe, falling prey to network execs who are slicing and dicing 'em up as if they were black-belted Benihana chefs.
As a fellow die-hard fan, I feel your pain. And with all the heart-wrenching TV casualties lately--Alias, Arrested, Reunion, the horror!--it's high time to step in and do everything within our power to help save these shows. Hence, the return of our annual SOS poll, where you decide which shows are most worth rescuing, and I take that message straight to the networks.
Here's what you can do to help:
1. Look over the endangered series below--or choose any other show I may have forgotten.
2. Select the one show you most want to save from cancellation, and email me with that show's name in the subject line. (Please take into consideration not only how much you love each show but how likely it is to survive.)
In an upcoming column, the top three shows with the most votes will get a heartfelt plea written by yours truly, which will be sent to the decision makers at each show's home network and any other network who might consider picking it up.
Keep in mind, the more votes we have, the louder you'll be heard. So, please, email this column to all your friends, family, strangers, enemies, dogs, etc.!
Here are the endangered series:
7th Heaven: Will end in May.
Alias: Ditto.
Arrested Development: No official cancellation, but it looks imminent. There is talk of a pickup by Showtime. (More below.)
Charmed: The girls' contracts are up, and WB sources say it is likely to be canceled in May.
The Comeback: Already gone. Some of us still can't get over it. We don't wann see that?
Everwood: Despite the best season yet, the WB has pulled it off the air till March. Not the best sign.
Fat Actress: No announcement yet of a return.
Kitchen Confidential: Officially canceled.
Night Stalker: ABC has officially canceled it, however, the Sci Fi Channel has picked up the episodes already shot.
Reunion: Fox has shut down production. There are rumblings the WB might want to pick it up. (Note: I found out the identity of Sam's killer. We can discuss in Monday's chat whether you want to know!)
Threshold: CBS canceled it.
Veronica Mars: Highly debatable whether it belongs on this list. There are no signs UPN is considering canceling VM, but given the lower than deserved ratings, it still needs support.
The West Wing: On the fence. This could be the last season.
What I Like About You: Sources say it is likely to end in May.
Will & Grace: Will end in May.
