I'm watching some of the early episodes and taking notice of the fact that Monica looked really pale in some of these shows - almost an albino.
By the end of the first season or the beginning of the second, I believe she took on a normal skin tone. But there are some shows where they put on too much makeup - or she needed a tan.
When you watch these shows over and over, you look for new things to nit-pick...

Yes, I'm now watching the seasons in chronological order again -instead of picking episodes at random like I used to do- to 'analyse' how the characters change -most times not for the good. It's fun to notice new things every time.

Not to mention how skinny Chandler was and how less developed the Joey character was. He didn't have much of a personality the first season - he wasn't really "Joey" until around late in the second season or the third season at the latest.
Chandler and the female characters were pretty much well-defined from the get go. Ross, just got creepier and weirder as the show went on. That episode later on where he had to see a shrink, take medication and take a leave of absence from work pretty much sums up what happened to the character.

Hey, you made the same observations I did! :)
I actually liked Joey better the first season. He was more like Matt LeBlanc's character Vinnie Verducci on some episodes of Married... with Children. He was dim-witted the first seasons, not just plain stupid, like in the last seasons. Also, notice how in the first seasons, LeBlancs seems to know more than 2 ways of acting, unlike the last couple of seasons. You're right, he didn't really develop. I guess that's why they could come up with a spin-off show for him. There's plenty of room for him to develop.
Chandler was surprinsingly skinny at some points in season 3. The ring-beard didn't really help either. In seasons 8 and 9 he had really put on a lot of weight. I guess that's (partly) due to Perry's addiction to medication he was trying to quit.
I think Chandler developed the most. It was good that he did, but I kinda like the old Chandler better. He was a bit too soft at times in the later seasons. Also, Phoebe stayed pretty flat as well as a character, although she did get married and settled.
I couldn't stand Ross in the last seasons (from season 8 on). He really was creapy! Also, it seemed that Schwimmer wanted to top LeBlanc in bad acting: by the time season 10 began, he only knew 1 way of acting- an irritating one.
