At the moment there are a lot of rumors floating around the internet about a possible cancellation of Charmed after the current season. However, there has not been any offical statement either from TheWB, Paramount or any other reliable source close to the production.
Right now chances are 50/50. After already canceling 7th Heaven, and having weak spots on the schedule on four out of six nights, one might argue that TheWB wants to keep Charmed around for a final ninth season, as it is the only show to fare well on TheWB Sunday. TheWB might first want to find some potent replacements for their veteran drama, so that once it is really time for them (including Charmed, Gilmore Girls, Smallville, Reba and Everwood) to sign off, they have something to maintain interest in their schedule, as of right now this is not the case. This circumstance, of course, is to Charmed's advantage. However, ratings are not so much in favor of Charmed. After doing very well during season five and six, ratings declinded somewhat during season seven, they are a little better now, but TheWB might think that it's not gonna get any better again, and thus not worthy of a renewal. I guess we all need to keep cool about this and wait for an official annoucnement which, according to Ask Ausiello, is due during the next two weeks, I, however, think we'll have to wait at least until Charmed will have aired the three episodes scheduled for January.
I will keep you posted...

The WB wouldn't make a final decision until it nears to the final episodes. Except the WB will tell Kristen from E! Live cause fans hear it first from there. The other shows and internet won't get it until E! Live has announced it first. I don't know the chances of Charmed. It's 40/50 right now. Two stars on the show won't be coming back. There might be a chance for a spin off but now it seems unlikely.

to get another season and/or spin off you might as well write to them or email.

Ask Ausiello is very reliable, so I do think we'll get an announcement in January. Perhaps it won't be an announcement for Charmed but they will probably be deciding on renewing/cancelling other shows.

It seems as though Ausiello and Kristin from E are both reporting the cancelation of Charmed as being imminient, so sadly I think this is probably the end. I would think they would announce this is the last season before May so they can maximize the viewers for the last shows. This is what they did for 7th Heaven. :(

well, a lot of us didn't even expect season 8 to happen, so savor the next 5 or so months because I have no doubt this is the last year.

Does anyone else think that Prue should come back Grams-style for the series finale? There are a lot of people who have lost interest in the show but if Shannen came back for the finale, would want to watch it. I haven't been watching this season but if Prue came back, I know I would want to watch

I stopped watching it after last year's finale. The show just isn't the same anymore and it really hasn't been great IMO since Pru left. I continued to watch and Paige was a good addition but by last year I had to really force myself to watch it sometimes and when that happens I usually just end up dropping it.

I'd love if Prue came back, but Shannen Doherty would never agree to that :grr:

I know Prue can't come back but if she did it wouldn't be Shannen because 1. she got fired and 2. she even said on her official site that she wouldn't want to come back. I know there are Prue fans want her to come back but they have to face it. She's NOT coming back.

Shannen said herself that she clearly doesn't want to come back. She said it was a BIG mistake to do the show. She loved the people but couldn't see herself doing a show like that anymore.

Shannen's memories of 90210 were every bit as bitter (she was fired on that too) as on Charmed and yet she came back for the reunion special a few years ago. Time heals all wounds and money talks, I'm sure for the right amount of money, Shannen could agree to returning for the series finale.

Anyways, Prue could easily come back if Shannen agreed to it, how many times have we seen Patty and Grams return from the other side?

Isnt this the final season anyway? I thought The WB confirmed that last season.

I don't think it was actually ever confirmed to be the final season, but widely speculated to be the final season.

Yeah, right! "Charmed" still considered to be a final season. outside of the WB consist of Sundays 5:00 PM reruns, TNT is still airing reruns of episodes that are out of order. From season 1 to most of season 7.
