Thelma and Keith were married and about to start a family, J.J. was grown, his character even seemed to be fazed away from the family, Michael seemed too ambitious to be working part-time to help pay for a house. That was good that the writers turned them down, because it wouldn't have made sense if they did get that house.

What was stupid was telling the bank manager that they worked full time ALL TOGETHER-lol The man ask who had a FULL-Time Job and none of them did so they wasn't even supposed to be approved. Espceially since Thelma and Micheal was brining in nothing which only left flo, keith, and J.J and they were all bringing in part-time money-lol

It was like Florida jinxed J.J. He had a good job in season 5, and singlehandley supported the family.

:D Is that the episode where the Bank Manager started crying at the Evans' apartment?:p Florida was like "Oh my Lord".

Did any of you live in the 70's? From what I understand jobs were very hard to come by back then. And if you were a black male without a college degree then a good job was extremely hard to get.

Besides, it's a long process getting a loan from a bank...they made it seem like you go in a bank and VOILA! you get approved. So wrong. Imagine how many people believed that watching that episode back then???:crazy: The bank loan officer, after he was considering the family for a loan, he didn't even ask for documentation of their income!!! What kind of crap is that???? I don't know what world the writers lived in then, but one needs to show proof that one can maintain a mortgage payment, insurance, and on top of that, pay the loan back! That was soooo stupid too when the banker asked WHO HERE WORKS FULL-TIME??? Not one of them did, so right then and there is when they should have been led out the door. Bye Bye!!

BTW, the actor who played the banker, he was in What's Happening, he played the guy who hired Shirley at the balloon company. He then defended her when the boss wanted Shirley to do nothing.

It would have taken them out of the projects and it's funnier and more practical to have the characters crammed into basically one room - the living room - for most of the episodes. A house would imply that the Evanses were moving up in the world and they obviously wanted to keep them in the ghetto to reinforce their "poor but honest" characterization. Just my take on things.

Of course they were not to get the house, but the writers could have been more realistic abt the process of getting a loan.

Also, how many times have the Evans' ASSUMED something good was going to happen and they jump into a celebration without knowing for sure? Remember when James went to get a job thru the gov't and he was disqualified because of his age? Remember how the family got everything ready at the apt for a big celebration only to have nothing to celebrate? Again, here, the family gets a party going and then BOOM! nothing to celebrate. They celebrate moving to Mississippi and then BOOM! James is killed. Seems to me, before the family has any more celebrations planned, they are better off not having it becuz everytime they do, something bad happens!:eek:
