Any Replay members here? I'm looking at the program and it seems way too good to be true. Is it a ripoff or a steal and I'm a fool if I don't take part in it?

View Full Version : Suncoast's Replay? TV DVD Fan 12-13-2005, 05:22 PM Any Replay members here? I'm looking at the program and it seems way too good to be true. Is it a ripoff or a steal and I'm a fool if I don't take part in it? Pat Dean Winchester 12-13-2005, 05:35 PM I was a member, but it's not as good a deal as it may sound, because when you get a $5 coupon for spending $100, $5 less is still about what you'd pay for it as a normal price Best Buy. Your best bet would be joining FYE's Backstage Pass program, for $25 a year, you can save 10% off everything (20% off on certain days) and the best part is that you can preorder DVD's there and when they come out, you can bring in an ad from Best Buy or Target or whatever... and get then for 10% off the price they have there. I have only been a member for about 2 months but I think the $25 has already paid for itself tenfold already. TV DVD Fan 12-13-2005, 05:48 PM Thanks, pretty cool program, I was looking at that, too. So would you say that the FYE plan is more beneficial than just buying like a Best Buy or Wal-mart gift card or something? Pat Dean Winchester 12-13-2005, 05:57 PM Thanks, pretty cool program, I was looking at that, too. So would you say that the FYE plan is more beneficial than just buying like a Best Buy or Wal-mart gift card or something? Pat depends how much you buy CD's and DVD's, FYE also buys used cd's and DVD's so you can get store credit for those as well that you can apply with the Backstage Pass program troopoleon8897 12-13-2005, 06:31 PM depends how much you buy CD's and DVD's, FYE also buys used cd's and DVD's so you can get store credit for those as well that you can apply with the Backstage Pass program will they buy any used dvd's or does it have to be something they already have and if so do you have to be a member to do so? Dean Winchester 12-13-2005, 06:40 PM will they buy any used dvd's or does it have to be something they already have and if so do you have to be a member to do so? well, they'll take used cd's and DVD's if you're a member or not, but... they won't buy cd's like NSync, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, etc... that they have 1000 copies of and that doesn't have decent catalog sales, but for the most part they will take a lot of titles. They pay more with store credit than with cash, so you can get some really good deals if you also belong to the Backstage Pass program troopoleon8897 12-13-2005, 07:02 PM well, they'll take used cd's and DVD's if you're a member or not, but... they won't buy cd's like NSync, Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, etc... that they have 1000 copies of and that doesn't have decent catalog sales, but for the most part they will take a lot of titles. TV DVD Fan 12-13-2005, 07:05 PM So if I bought alot of DVDs, I'd save more? Pat Dean Winchester 12-13-2005, 07:12 PM So if I bought alot of DVDs, I'd save more? Pat yes, if you only plan on buying 1 or 2 DVD's, joining the Backstage Pass program would probably be wasting money, but if you plan on buying at least 5 in the next year from there, the more you buy, the more that the program pays for itself. Their prices aren't the best, but the part where you can preorder DVD's from there and then bring in an ad from another store when you pick it up and get 10% off the sale price at Target instead of theirs makes it a really good deal. I got the last 2 Seinfeld sets for $26.99 a piece from pricematching another add and getting 10% off that. Also about twice a year, FYE has a 20% off TV-DVD special, so you also get an additional 10% off from that, as well as when they have "buy one, get one half price" deals. I think it definately pays for itself a lot better than the Suncoast program. I ended up getting the "Sex And The City" complete collection from FYE for $131.99 after rebates and the sort from that program (retail $299.99) PZelda 12-13-2005, 07:48 PM I am a Replay member...Got my membership in December of 2003 and I will be renewing soon (my membership expires on 12/17, so I need to renew within the next four days). Their 1-year is 8.99 and their 2-year is 16.99 so I like that. When you think about it, DVDs are going down in price and Suncoast's prices are starting to match Target's. I rarely get my TV-DVD's from there, though -- I do Target for that. But they have a GREAT selection of movies, so you can't miss. Ultimately, it is up to you. Suncoast's membership is cheaper than FYE's ($25 for one year @ FYE vs. $9 for one year @ Suncoast). But only you can make that decision. If you want to get a membership @ both places, go ahead. Me? I'm renewing my Replay membership. OHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I just remembered! You can also use your Replay card at four stores -- Suncoast, Sam Goody, Media Play and On-Cue. I don't know if FYE's membership lets you do that. But, yeah. :) Dean Winchester 12-13-2005, 08:10 PM I am a Replay member...Got my membership in December of 2003 and I will be renewing soon (my membership expires on 12/17, so I need to renew within the next four days). But, yeah. :) as someone whose belonged to both programs, these are reasons why I prefer and would recommend Backstage Pass over Replay: - even though Backstage is more expensive, the savings are immediate and you don't have to spend $100 to start saving. - $100 gets you $5 back through the mail with Replay, $100 gets you instant $10 savings and it's $90 at FYE - FYE also carries a wide assortment of used material that the discount can be applied to as well - FYE also carries music, new and used - while Suncoast can price-match Target, FYE one-ups it and price-matches Target while applying a 10% discount - Besides selling used stuff, FYE also buys used cd's and DVD's and you can get store credit for those, onto the purchase of other products, which Suncoast doesn't do PZelda 12-13-2005, 08:45 PM The music part is useless for me - I don't buy CD's because I have no use for them, heh. It's all a matter of preference when it comes down to that. :) Dean Winchester 12-13-2005, 09:07 PM The music part is useless for me - I don't buy CD's because I have no use for them, heh. It's all a matter of preference when it comes down to that. :) lol, I have saved some good money from Replay, I was just saying why I personally think FYE's plan is a better deal. I was just curious, how does a deaf person enjoy music anyways? I notice you don't listen to music, but I was talking to a guy online who has been deaf from birth and he was telling me how he loves Madonna and Shakira and has all their CD's and I was wondering how he enjoys them and knows he likes their music if he's never actually heard them? troopoleon8897 12-13-2005, 09:37 PM lol, I have saved some good money from Replay, I was just saying why I personally think FYE's plan is a better deal. Im not trying to make fun of anyone but that cracks me up, lol... Im thinking Im gonna get the backstage pass mainly becasue I have all three stores in my mall (FYE, Best Buy, & Target) and FYE is the only one that has old tv box sets (such as ones that were released more than a year and a half ago) so I think it will advantage me since i belonged to best buys reward points and got nothing but **** from that (cost to much for so little points)... Dean Winchester 12-13-2005, 09:52 PM Im not trying to make fun of anyone but that cracks me up, lol... I suppose one who has hearing loss might like the music videos, and would buy a video collection, but an audio cd? But then I am sure there are blind art collectors at the same time. That depends. Do you know how much loss he has in both ears? Personally, I have never been able to figure out how one can enjoy music if they are deaf. The only songs I am familiar with are the ones Vicki Lawrence sang (The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, Mr. Allison, He Did With Me, etc.), and lyrics for the ones she sang are easily available so I can follow along. I find it enjoyable but not enjoyable enough to want to "listen" to other music. I'm thinking...It has to do with the beat of the music? Maybe he enjoys the beats and vibrations of Madonna's and Shakira's music? Personally, the beats annoy the hell out of me. My mom LOVES classical music (BARF) and there are soooo many beats, I can never hear myself think. I always have to ask her to put her headphones on. Oh yeah, and I don't mind musical numbers on TV or when people sing. I guess I like the visual aspect of music -- in fact, one of my fave parts in the first Back to the Future movie is when Marty McFly does his thing at the school dance in the 1950s. And my avatar is from a musical number Dee Dee McCall did in a 3rd-season episode of Hunter (The Cradle Will Rock). It was a great question to ask, though. bnchile 12-13-2005, 10:20 PM actually some Suncoast stores do buy back dvd's now. it's pretty much on a store to store basis. I think the only reason to buy at suncoast is with the replay plan because they are so expensive. to save the most cash with replay always buy on their "triple points weekends" even if you have no movies you want to buy on that weekend you should always buy at least a $30 gift card. that will get you to your reward quicker. and youll have a gift card to use when a movie or box set comes in you do want.and either start your membership with the 2 yr plan or bump up your years by renewing early before you really have to on triple pt. days as well to get more rewards quicker. (my membership now runs out in 2009). also sign up for the email service when they have you sign up, that will get you eligible for a auction type thing they do where you also earn bidding pts while you still earn the rewards certificates. and you can bid on items almost like ebay, kinda cool. also any of the dvds you want to preorder when you pick them up you get pts and if you find it in a ad cheaper elsewhere, just cancel the preorder and put the $5 you had to put down on to something else. im sure im missing more cool stuff. also i price checked this program against Best Buys, and they are even harder to get bonus dollars. TV DVD Fan 12-14-2005, 08:43 PM Actually, re-reading the plan for FYE, it's obselete to me, as it don't apply on the website (the program), and there isn't really a decent FYE near me. The Suncoast plan does also have a Showbidz column that looks pretty cool. The 9 dollar plan is better for me financially too (as it would be anyone). Doesn't Suncoast also have 20 percent off days? Pat yea, it all depends on distance. If you don't have any really close FYE's but have Suncoast's, go for it. I have one FYE in a mall about five mins from me, and another one at another mall fifteen mins away so it wasn't a bad idea for me. lockdown06 12-30-2005, 12:30 AM I have saved with replay already and i just joined.....they give you a 5 dollar coupon for signing up and then bonus points for logging on.....Im already on my way to get a second 5 dollar coupon....I thin it is worth it but if you have a FYE you might as well go that route. |
