View Full Version : 2005 - Seven Number Ones, which was your favorite?
Dean Winchester 12-11-2005, 09:47 PM there are six options:
Mario - Let Me Love You
50 Cent - Candy Shop
Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl
Mariah Carey - We Belong Together
Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx - Gold Digger
Chris Brown - Run It
which did you like best? I think I'd go for We Belong Together with Hollaback in second place (Hollaback IMO was good, but not one of the best LAMB cuts)
Dean Winchester 12-11-2005, 09:49 PM OOPS!!!!! I copied this idea from another board and then I just realized Carrie Underwood hit #1 with Inside Your Heaven during Mariah's 14 week run.
PrettyinPink55 12-11-2005, 09:58 PM Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together." Go Mariah! She's so back in the game!!!
vashti1999 12-11-2005, 10:50 PM I edited the poll to include Inside Your Heaven for anyone who wanted to vote for it and hadn't voted yet.

thank you Vash, I was kinda ticked when I realized I had forgotten that one, I know there are a lot of Carrie fans here too
vashti1999 12-12-2005, 10:52 AM It was between Mariah and Chris Brown, but since Mariah's getting her votes, I went with Run It.
Race's Girl 12-12-2005, 01:14 PM Golddigger although Jamie Foxx sounded a bit like Ray Charles there
Karen* 12-12-2005, 05:50 PM Gwen Stefani - Hollaback Girl. She made "Bananas" one of the hottest catchphrases of 2005. :D
dlemond 12-12-2005, 05:54 PM Wow, all those songs suck.
I can't believe that is even considered music.
In 10 years no one will remember any of this junk.
Or they will be embarrassed to admit they liked it.

even "We Belong Together"? Granted, I don't think it was good enough to last at #1 for 14 weeks but it was a nice r&b/pop ballad that has some great vocals on it.
Superstar 12-13-2005, 04:32 AM Gwen
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 12-14-2005, 12:14 AM Kellys 'Since U Been Gone' never went to #1? or is this from another chart? Anyways, I choose Gwens.

I think it did on the Pop 100, but on the Hot 100, it peaked at #2

Thanks. And Ive never heard of Chris Browns 'Run It'-- has it gotten a lot of airplay? Or is it mostly on rap station.. is he a rap artist?
Dean Winchester 12-14-2005, 12:46 AM I have never heard Run It either, I think the singles chart should be more like it was in 1999-2000, where pop, r&b, rock, dance, hip hop and even country all had equal footing on the singles chart

Yes it's gotten airplay, reminiscent of Usher's "Yeah." He's a 16yo singer, not a rapper.
Cactus Jack 12-14-2005, 08:55 AM INSIDE YOUR HEAVEN. Although Gold Digger tends to get in my head a lot
TheGreatPretender 12-14-2005, 12:36 PM Hollaback Girl. As someone who can't stand most hip hop, I still loved that song.

Hip hop doesn't apply to Hollaback Girl. It definitely shouldn't be considered anything close to a hip hop song.
Dumballa 12-14-2005, 01:21 PM Kayne West "Golddigger"

oo0o thanks. Hes cute!

well, Hollaback Girl's popularity was helped for the fact that urban radio stations actually played it, giving it high enough airplay to hit #1 (you can be played to death but if urban radio doesn't embrace you, you ain't hitting #1, all you have to do is look at "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson). Honestly though, between Gwen's three more-r&b sounding songs (as opposed to how Cool and What You Waiting For were decicively NOT), I think Rich Girl should've been a bigger hit than Hollaback, Luxurious otoh is the worst track off the album and record execs are on crack thinking that song is more catchy than Serious or Bubble Pop Electric
EmoJoe 12-14-2005, 07:11 PM Carrie's! Yay! I actually hate that song (Carrie's debut album is a lot better, that song was just a song she was forced to release by AI), but the other ones are really really bad, so yeah.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 12-14-2005, 07:35 PM I'm going to go with Carrie.
SBTB Geek 12-16-2005, 03:40 AM , Luxurious otoh is the worst track off the album and record execs are on crack thinking that song is more catchy than Serious or Bubble Pop Electric
I couldn't agree more. I was shocked when I heard "Luxurious" was going to be the 5th single. It's the weakest track on the album!
"Danger Zone," or "Bubble Pop Electric" are 10x better.

I personally thought Bubble Pop Electric could easily be single #5 (and plus, the singles have been going in the order of the album). Of course, in a post-Janet world where everyone's become prudish again, "tonight I'm gonna give you all my love in the back seat" might not fly like it would've three or four years ago, but I think the song has the "it" factor to it that made Hollaback Girl such a big hit, it's got pop appeal, you could see dance remixes to it, it's kinda got a retro thing to it, it has urban appeal thanks to Andre 3000, etc.... The song would've been a much better choice than Luxurious, which is an okay song but easily the most skippable song on L.A.M.B.
Dean Winchester 12-16-2005, 05:54 AM the fact not one person voted for Mario practically proved what I said awhile back when I pulled his song out as an example of a song that spent a ton of weeks at #1 (11 to be exact) yet it's hardly memorable and it hasn't even been a year yet nobody remembers it like they do Gold Digger, Hollaback Girl or We Belong Together

 I remember the song, but I didnt really like it a whole lot.

I'm with you. Hollaback Girl was catchy, but I wouldn't consider it #1 material. And I've never heard the rest, nor care too. I can't stand Mariah anymore.
lver_joyce-dewitt 12-20-2005, 12:44 AM i already vote to mariah carey i still love her very much i been listen to her every day ;-) so cool song..

I have to agree. I like the song, but when I first head L.A.M.B., my responce was "this song is great, it'll be one of those album tracks everyone will love but I don't see this as a single" and speak of the devil, it became Gwen's first #1 (Don't Speak wasn't released as a single so it didn't chart)
