It was on this date, December 10th, 1955:
CBS-TV premiered the first ever Saturday morning TV series called "Mighty Mouse Playhouse" featuring Mighty Mouse with the cast of characters. The show featured a compilation of Terrytoons shorts from Heckle & Jeckle, Gandy Goose and Dinky Duck. Terrytoons produced new wrap-around animation for the series, featuring tenor Roy Halee as Mighty Mouse singing the opening theme. The show has been on for 11 years until 1966 where "Mighty Mouse Playhouse" drew to a close. Fragments from the show was later syndicated on other non-network stations as well as "Mighty Mouse & Friends" back in the early 90's and on the USA Network as part of the "Cartoon Express" off and on until 1995. I remember when WPIX-TV used to have that on back in the late 70's and early 80's in syndicated using some of the elements from the "Mighty Mouse Playhouse" days including openings, closings and bumpers. I've seen these shows when I was just a baby. But now, it's not on anymore. Keep in mind that "Mighty Mouse Playhouse" is kinda rare and it's hard to find. There was only one Mighty Mouse cartoon that is in the PD called "Wolf! Wolf!" as well as the Gandy Goose short "The Last Round-Up" and "Dingbat Land". Those cartoons made by Terrytoons is in the PD. I hope GAC would do better to discuss the 50th anniversary of "Mighty Mouse Playhouse". Happy anniversary!!!
