View Full Version : The actress who played Susan and later killed off
TVFactFan 12-10-2005, 11:11 AM Just wondering was it ever mentioned why the actress who played George's Girlfriend was killed off? Was she starting going to be in another sitcom? Was needed on Seinfeld anymore? Starting a Movie Career? Why was her character suddenly killed off?
Dean Winchester 12-10-2005, 03:04 PM because Seinfeld is Seinfeld, it was not the type of show to have a wedding or baby episode. And personally, I think killing Susan off the way they did was a genius moment in the show, I remember watching it and laughing so hard at it.

Agreed. She wasn't going to another show, they just needed a way to break off the engagement between the two characters. They were never planning for the two to get married.
Seinatra 12-11-2005, 01:31 AM Yes, the show was about the 4 single folks hanging out together, so they just needed a way to end George and Susan. I think they could have made it work with George as a husband if they wanted to.
Dean Winchester 12-11-2005, 05:54 AM I think the said episode is very proof of what dark comedy Seinfeld really was, and also what a stroke of luck that a show like that caught on with the masses the way it did. Especially when you consider that Friends was NBC's other big Thursday night show at the time and that show had all of the dramatic gimmicks (weddings, babies, breakups, etc...) that Seinfeld convieniently (and thankfully) avoided. I think part of that reason is why Seinfeld has lasted so long in reruns because they didn't write Elaine in as pregnant when Julia was carrying (and she was pregnant twice during the run) or having George and Susan carry on with their wedding, Jerry, Larry and all of the other writers knew such storylines would completely go against the whole jist of the series.

I used to wonder that myself, but now I feel as other posters have said , that is Seinfeld. They had to move on w the show and that was one of the turns they used. The four of them were too self centred to be happy in a mariage.

mr brownstone 01-23-2006, 03:53 AM it would have been very cheesy seeing george being all happy at a wedding
James28 02-19-2008, 07:59 PM Susan Ross's death was an abysmal and eerie one. After George goes out, Susan starts licking the envelopes, but she starts to notice they taste funny. She continues to lick the envelopes. Several moments later, a worn-out Susan passes out after licking the envelopes. She is then transported to the hospital where the Doctor telling George that Susan Ross has died. How does someone die from licking numerous envelopes?

The joke was that only the really cheap envelopes still used that toxic. Of course Georgie Boy isn't going to spring for expensive envelopes being the cheapskate that he is. Don't you remember when they went to the store to get them and the saleswoman gave them the folder full of the samples and said that they were arranged in descending order of price and George proceeded flip all the way to the back?
Gowza 02-20-2008, 12:40 AM george wouldn't have been happy at the wedding. he probably would have been muttering under his breath about his dislike for the relationship the whole wedding, i can just imagine george at the wedding acting all akward and continuously going over to his friends trying to figure out ways to get out of it still.
but if he actually had got married i don't think it would have been nearly as good, they could have made it work but i doubt it would have been as good if things had turned out that way

According to the interview on the dvd they waited until almost the end of the season to decide on what to do with Susan and George. Jerry said they were eating out and Jerry said, "Wouldn't you just like to kill her?"
