View Full Version : Something your city/town DOESN'T have that you wish it did...
Ireneparalegal 12-10-2005, 12:53 AM This thread was thought of because of the thread abt what your city/town has tooooo much of (stores, banks, certain kinds of people etc) well, what do you wish your city had that it doesn't have or what does it need:
Bigger seafood restaurants at the harbor

I wish my city had a major league sports team. I always wish we had that. We got plenty of minor league sports here, but who gets up for that? We have to share the Buffalo Bills with Buffalo, and the Syracuse Orangemen with Syracuse. We are located in between those cities.
i always wish we had big buildings like in new york, it sounds stupid but my city barely has a bank
dawsongirl 12-10-2005, 02:01 AM A bookstore. We have damn near everything else but a bookstore (a B&N, a Borders, whatever). I have to go clear to the damn west side to shop a bookstore.

We have a great used bookstore five minutes away from where I live. I go there all the time.
GARFIELDKOOL 12-10-2005, 10:57 AM Gotta rep the 'Cuse.
You live in Syracuse?

Number 9 Dream 12-10-2005, 12:36 PM Oh, I'd also like to add that our town used to have a drive-in movie theatre but it was torn down for a golf range
I also wish our town had a bookstore as well.

EmoJoe 12-10-2005, 01:57 PM EVERYTHING! My town is a ******** hicksville town that has nothing intesting but a mall a few towns away, a pizza place, a park or two, and some restraunts. And that's in the newer part...we have a freaking general store (although I think its just a little supermarket, not a real general store) on the old (and I mean like..1700s old) side of town. When I grow up im moving to a beach town.
So yeah.
Ireneparalegal 12-10-2005, 02:12 PM A new mayor
Good Answer!!!
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 12-10-2005, 02:14 PM Bookstores, more clothing stores, more...things to do? um...all teenagers can do here is go to the movies. It's crowded as **** on the weekends.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 12-10-2005, 02:15 PM Oh, I'd also like to add that our town used to have a drive-in movie theatre but it was torn down for a golf range  We have one, and there were rumors it would get torn down. It didn't, and it's probably one of the few ones still around.
Number 9 Dream 12-10-2005, 02:27 PM We have one, and there were rumors it would get torn down. It didn't, and it's probably one of the few ones still around.
Really? Is it pretty popular?
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 12-10-2005, 05:40 PM Really? Is it pretty popular?
Eh, no. It's just as popular as a regular movie theater. Kinda beaten down, they should repair it.

Mijada 12-10-2005, 06:31 PM I wish we had a Sonic restaurant here in Michigan. If there were one in my town I would be going there all the time. I see those commercials and their stuff always looks so good.

D-Dey 12-10-2005, 10:00 PM More lanes on the main roads(except for the Long Island Expressway, which only has enough room for an HOV lane past Exit 64), and a few other road improvements. We've got too many stores going up, and the existing roads can't handle that or the residential traffic.
Also, a return of the second track along the main line of the Long Island Railroad Bridge.
InspectorExstead 12-10-2005, 10:06 PM anything new york has. that would be awesome.

TheHappyBurgerMeister 12-10-2005, 10:09 PM A Sonic Drive-in. For some reason they show commercials for that place around here but there isn't any in the whole state of Wisconsin!

I love that place...even though last time I went there, I got sick. I think it was something else though.
The closest one is in Kansas City. Poo.

:liplick: It is. I'm always getting their french toast sticks because they're on the 99 cent menu. French Toast Sticks and a small Strawberry Slush (with real strawberries in it, not just strawberry flavoring) for 1.98 minus tax.
InspectorExstead 12-11-2005, 12:23 AM As much as I love Starbucks (I practically live there), having a little local coffee house would also be cool- something that serves amazingly good coffee but isn't so franchised.

haha. Actually...I was supposed to go. But some loan stuff didn't work out three weeks before move in date (interest rates=too high=worried parents=no cosigners for loans). So I'm going to a JC and transferring there in two years.

My dad was in one years and years ago (the place is now closed) with the girls softball team he worked with, and he said there was a dancer there that was 5 months pregnant! Yeah...we got all the hotties. He and a friend just played pool and laughed.

It seems like theres one of those on every highway around here...Or in some cases more than one. On Michigan Ave. there's 5 in about a 2 block stretch. One of the more creatively named ones I've seen was "Chix on Dix", located on Dix street.

Gizmo1 12-13-2005, 05:27 PM A pool. I live in a development, i wouldnt consider it a town, but it does have a gas station, a little pizza place and a post office. But there is no pool anywhere. Wuts up with that?!?

My cousin said he saw a dancer wearing a big knee brace. That's what you get when you stick a strip club in the middle of nowhere. ohno:

apparently Dayton is famous for "exotic dancers" missing one or more limbs for some reason... o_O
InspectorExstead 12-13-2005, 06:41 PM Just curious, you live in SoCal, and was just wondering, what is it that NY has that SoCal doesn't that you would like?
Well, the beaches here in SoCal are like my best friends, but I've always been fascinated with cities. Big buildings, lots of traffic and noise, people everywhere (but always doing their own thing). And I love city lights...lots and lots of city lights. Broadway's amazingly nice as well.

Okay! :)
So you want to experience the big city life, without all the little suburbs.
Janice 12-14-2005, 12:17 AM We've moved here a little over a year ago, and this town doesn't have a decent Chinese restaurant in it, and we've tried them all.
Where we used to live, there was the best Chinese food just a 10 minute drive away.

Are you talking about Dayton, Ohio? If so....I totally have never heard of this, or of Stumpie's. I'll have to ask some friends about it!
As for what I would want in my town.....more nature. Er, I guess, different nature. Sure there's plenty of squirrels around here, and don't get me wrong, I like squirrels, but when I went to Florida, I loved seeing all the lizards everywhere. And they're everywhere! Just randomly on sidewalks, etc. Also, I saw more birds down there in 3 days than I see in 2 weeks around here.

Years ago there was a very seedy strip club called Stumpies on Third st. It featured a one legged stripper. But that place burnt down or closed down well over a decade ago. Rob used the word "famous" extremely loosely, it was more like the place where you would find all the deviants.

Oh no, I didn't think you were implying that! ..I was just telling you what it was and what happened to it. You probably wouldn't have known about it unless you were a teenager around that time who cruised around the east end out of boredom
