Sound Of Music
Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews was definately queen of the genre)
The Wizard Of Oz
Yentl (Streisand at her vocal peak. A Piece Of Sky still gives me chills)
Xanadu (well, the movie is horrible but the music is great IMO)
Chicago

maybe Rent once I've seen it. Grease used to be a favorite but I'm just sick of it now, and in terms of Olivia Newton-John music, I prefer the songs she sang in Xanadu.

I thought Yent was great too, but it isn't like traditional musicals in that she only really sings in front of other characters toward the end of the film, and the songs are very dramatic and some are quite similar.

Xanadu- some great songs but it is pure crappy camp! I can't imagine who ever thought it would make a brilliant film! Maybe the premise would've made passable entertainment, but as soon as the script was finished, no way!

Shock Treatment (another almost unknown odd plot but great song film) and Rocky Horror (Shock Treatment is it's 'sequel') are brilliant too. Also:

Chicago, Funny Girl, Hello Dolly, Funny Face.

Well, movies?

Rent
The Phantom of the Opera
Moulin Rouge
Little Shop of Horrors

I'm sure I'll love the Producers

I went back and recently watched Chicago, and I found that I didn't like it anywhere near as much as I thought I did, so I wouldn't call that one of my favorites.

I mean, I also love other musicals, but like...stage productions...Wicked, The Wild Party, Aida, The Last 5 Years, etc.

I am not much into musicals but my favorite musical has to be "Scrooge"(1971?) with Albert Finney. I love it!:D :tree:
