Anyone notice or is it just me. It seems other than a few rent episodes, the family had it better than when James was alive? He was the breadwinner, yet, he dies and the family seems to have more $$$$. Or at least they aren't struggling like they used to when James was around.

I think they still had rent problems after James was killed off, But the rent topic faded a little after Florida left, and then when she returned then everyone started to have job/money problems.

I noticed the same exact thing. When James dies and then Florida left, JJ became the main bread winner and seemed to do just fine. They were eating pancakes instead of oatmeal.

Exactly. It's almost like the character of James was gone, and then *POOF* away went the $$$ problems.....PANCAKES!!! instead of oatmeal...

James went down to Mississippi to work at an uncles or cousins garage. And he was killed in a automobile accident

The character was killed off because the actor, John Amos was fired from the show due to comments he made about what goes on behind the scenes in a 1976 Ebony Magazine.

Thanks for the answers. I'd love to see that episode.
Does anyone know when the show will start from the beginning on TVLand? I'm tortured watching what they're showing now.

I think right before the New Year. Season 6 is going to be starting soon and since Good times is shown everyday I think season 1 will begin around Dec 26th.

Janice, I am so glad that you've discovered this show. It should be fun to get a "newbie's" perspective on things.

James must have been hooked on drugs, that was were all the money went and the reason he was always so pissed off and found Florida so attractive.
