JJ had lost his job and he had already been playing man of the house, so his obligation was to pay for his sister's wedding. Since he lost his job he needed money fast since the wedding was in a WEEK! Now that brings up another question, how did a wedding at a church with a reception following, get all planned and completed in less than a week??? I am thinking they had the reception in the church hall, some churches have that. Being that Flo had been a parishoner for years, she was able to get the church for a wedding on short notice. But yeah, $1000 doesn't sound like alot. He must have had money put aside since he had been working. $1000 was alot more in the 70's. Thelma must have bought a wedding dress that was already made and just had it altered. The bridesmaids must have bought those ready made dresses too.

Irene, before I started this thread, I did another one about the same thing. How long was the whole wedding fiasco? It sure did seem fast. Keith proposes one minute, Thelma calls Flo, Flo returns, the couple argue, then gets back together, in a week? But I deleted it for this one.

Also, something else I never noticed until you alluded on it. Were there bridesmaids and groomsmen at the wedding? Thelma never had any friends anyway, so shefound some to participate in her wedding, LOL.

There appeared to be two bridesmaids, Willona was the maid of honor, and there were groomsmen, one of them walked Florida down the aisle. Yep, it happened in a week because when Thelma told Florida on the phone abt getting married, she told her "this Saturday" as the day for the marriage. So, it was less than a week. WHEW!!!! i would have been a wreck!! Yeah, Thelma had A HELLUVA LOTTA BOYFRIENDS CALLING, but only once can i recall her actually talking to a girl, that was during the couch burning episode.

Think about this. JJ borrowed the cash, but how come he couldn't pay it back? If the man lost his job, does he think a street hustler like Sweet Daddy would go for sympathy? He even said so himself.

u know, i think i goofed, i think JJ borrowed the money while still working, he needed the extra cash for the wedding, THEN, it was shortly after he borrowed the money that he was laid off. My mind is so fuzzy right now, I am here on the computer but my mind is still asleep......zzzzzzzzzzz

I think that was JJ's felt that it was his responsibility since Thelma didn't have a father to walk her down the isle and plus it was his wedding present to Keith and Thelma. He was just looking out for his baby-sitter, that's what a big brother is suppose to do.

Another thing...Keith must not have been in great shape if he broke his LEG tripping over skinny JJ!! What could have been more believable is if he tripped over JJ and he fell down the stairs! That would have broken something!
And what a bad luck family they were...Keith had it all until he hooked up with the Evan family, he ended up being poor and broke like everyone in the family! LOL!!

So, i am confused Soloman, JJ shouldn't have paid for the wedding? Or he shouldn't have borrowed the money? if he didn't have the $1000, then was it on Thelma's shoulder (really Florida's) to financially take care of things? I am confused by your posts.:confused:

JJ did have a job when he first start paying for Thelma's wedding, and in the middle of it he was fired. What else was he supposed to do?? He told Thelma that he would pay for the wedding and he had pretty much everything covered from what I could tell until he was fired. So he had to borrow the money to pay everything else off. A lot of time when your actually at your reception after the wedding you are still paying people off and tipping some. When/If you ever get married you'll see.

I have to agree. As the oldest son and bearing his father's name he did what he had to do. Now me personally, I felt Kieth "all star" player knew this family was just getting by and should have kicked in a lil something something. But like JJ said, this was his baby sister and despite thier battles, she deserved to have a wedding fit for a princess. So thou I wouldn't have got it from Sweet Daddy Break a Leg, I understand he had to do what he had to do. But the most memorable part for me is Micheal singing You and I.

Now that's funny! Were any previous extended family members there? Wilber? Betty and Edgar? Papa Evans? The drunk cousin and her denying mom and dad? Where the heck was her step-father Carl?

Watching this episode again, made me realize that aside from the fact that JJ was assuming the role of head of the house (as he so stated) he was trying to impress people. He got caviar; was it necessary to get caviar????:rolleyes: He didn't need to borrow so much $$$ if he hadn't decided to splurge. He also mentioned champagne, which is understandable, champagne and weddings go together. He should have cut the wedding budget somewhere rather than take a large loan from Sweet Daddy.

Didn't JJ say Thelma deserved a great wedding since she was the only daughter?

You have to take in count that he had to pay for the Church the preacher the reception space the food the cake, Thelma's dress, the tuxes. And you have to pay the cater, for the food that the cater cooked plus the people who are serving the food. Other than champagne you have to have something else to drink. And don't forget the music. All those things can add up. Even if Thelma and Kieth didn't get to go to their reception, that doesn't mean that the people who were there to serve and the caterer doesn't get paid, they get their money no matter what. All that can add up real fast. And plus the wedding was put together in a hurry and you have to pay extra most of the time to get all of those things done when a wedding is being put together do fast. So I can see why JJ had to borrow money.

It would have been nice if Kieth would have pitched in somewhere. But would JJ would've taken Kieth's money?
