View Full Version : Anybody else sick and tired of seeing...
Brian Damage 12-02-2005, 12:12 PM ...drug commercials on tv? I swear, all I see lately is Drug commercials on tv. There seems to be a drug for anything and everything nowadays. If you are tired, restless, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, horny, hot, cold, hungry etc, etc. I think that's a big problem in this country. The drug companies are bombarding us with all sorts of drugs. Lunesta, Cialis, Toprol, it goes on and on.
dlemond 12-02-2005, 12:24 PM Unfortunately, as a bipolar impotent genital herpes suffering heartburn afflicted skin flaking depressed high cholesterol leveled individual, I need this stuff.
On my way to CVS, I better check my blood pressure too.

Janice 12-02-2005, 12:54 PM I love the way they throw in the disclaimer.
"This drug may cause heart attack, stroke, blood clots, suicidal thoughts, indigestigion and death."

Bootsy Whoosh 12-02-2005, 01:01 PM I mostly tune them out. What I hate is the thousands of e-mail I get for viagra and cialis every day. Also I get alot for rolex watches, which is strange.

Note to Self: My 2,000 Post
Ireneparalegal 12-02-2005, 01:44 PM I just remembered, abt two years ago the actress who portrays a "herpes infected" patient sued the company that made the commercial because people would recognize her as the girl WITH HERPES and they assumed she really did have herpes. She couldn't get dates, etc. Now mind you, why would you take a job like that? If offered a job on a commercial like that, I wouldn't take it? Would any of you?

No I wouldnt! And I doubt shes going to get anything by suing them.. hello, it was her JOB and Im sure they had major contracts in that. What I get a kick out of is those kids who talk about being sooo embarassed about wetting their beds, then they go and endorse Goodnights! Given they probably are actors, but hello its just stupid.
MsOrange 12-02-2005, 02:18 PM Just got an email full of wonderful news... i've always wanted to know how to enhance my penis!

I love how you put things...STUPID is what she was then. Hopefully she learned. But I would think very hard abt doing a product endorsement. I guess some people think they won't be recognized simply because they are in a commercial and they think no one pays much attention to detail, but obviously people do.

And I just found out how to get help for my erectile dysfunction! too bad the side effects are blindness and hairy palms :(

dawsongirl 12-02-2005, 03:34 PM I don't mind some of them, because, well, I'm weird and interested in prescription drugs. However, I could do without the Viagra/Cialis/Levitra ones. Let's face it, men know they're out there; we don't need to let them know anymore.
The ones I hate are the ones that don't tell you what they're for. "Talk to your doctor today to see if *fill in drug name here* is right for you!" Can you imagine if say a guy went in to his doctor and asked if, oh...the Nuva Ring...was right for him, and the doctor tells him it's only for women? Not that the Nuva Ring commercial doesn't tell what it's for...just the first thing I thought of.
dawsongirl 12-02-2005, 03:37 PM I love the way they throw in the disclaimer.
"This drug may cause heart attack, stroke, blood clots, suicidal thoughts, indigestigion and death."
Disclaimer on any of your fav depression drugs...Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Wellbutrin XL...
"May cause depression." Gee...and here I thought it was supposed to cure it...:bonk:
dawsongirl 12-02-2005, 03:38 PM Oh...speaking of Wellbutrin XL...I hate how they say in the commercial about 6903756 times...LOW RISK OF SEXUAL SIDE EFFECTS. Damn...we got it the first 3 times!! If you're so worried about that, then you need a different drug anyway!
Ireneparalegal 12-02-2005, 06:47 PM Oh...speaking of Wellbutrin XL...I hate how they say in the commercial about 6903756 times...LOW RISK OF SEXUAL SIDE EFFECTS. Damn...we got it the first 3 times!! If you're so worried about that, then you need a different drug anyway!

EmoJoe 12-02-2005, 06:49 PM This summer on the radio, I heard a commerical for a medicine that cures "suspisiosness"- like if you take it, you won't be suspsious of anyone anymore o_O
Tuesday Weld 12-02-2005, 06:51 PM The way they talk on those commercials is just irritating....
theshark8777 12-02-2005, 06:53 PM Maybe if they spent less on advertising, they could charge less for the drugs, eh?
Ireneparalegal 12-02-2005, 06:57 PM Maybe if they spent less on advertising, they could charge less for the drugs, eh?
The money is in the medicine, not the cure.
theshark8777 12-02-2005, 06:59 PM The money is in the medicine, not the cure.
They have to make the money for advertising, I'm sure some of it comes from what we pay for drugs.
dawsongirl 12-02-2005, 07:31 PM They have to make the money for advertising, I'm sure some of it comes from what we pay for drugs.
This is why generics RULE.
PZelda 12-02-2005, 08:26 PM And I just found out how to get help for my erectile dysfunction! too bad the side effects are blindness and hairy palms :(
  :brent
I got one the other day advertising penis patches. What is a penis patch? Do I apply the patch directly to my penis? Is it like the birth control patch in that I can stick it anywhere on my body? The email says it is now possible for me to enlarge my penis with the penis patch. But it doesn't say anything about how it works.
Penny Lane 12-02-2005, 08:34 PM Yes, I have noticed that. Especially all the so-called weight loss medical miracles! In my humble opinion , All doctors do nowdays is prescribe a pill for everything! Pill pushers! I have little faith in the medical profession anymore:(
Kristen 12-03-2005, 12:12 AM One drug commercial I always found amusing was for the Epi-Pen (it's an injection given to people who have severe allergies, etc.). Well, one of the symptoms of an allergic reaction is difficulty breathing. And the commercial also announced that one of the side-effects is difficulty breathing! If you already can't breathe, why take a drug that has a side effect of difficulty breathing?!

Brian 12-03-2005, 04:24 AM My father is a pharmacy manager and has been a pharmacist for over thirty years and he does not like those ads. He's told me that rather than buying those drugs, people can help themselves by making alternative lifestyle choices and it costs much less. It's all about the money.
Ireneparalegal 12-03-2005, 03:20 PM The way they talk on those commercials is just irritating....
 exactly.
These ads are just annoying and as bad as those feminine hygiene commercials.
"Mom, I don't feel so fresh"
rusyd 12-03-2005, 09:02 PM It seems as if every other commercial is for one drug or another. It is very irritating.
EmoJoe 12-03-2005, 09:07 PM Anyway yeah it is annoying.
Dutabi84 12-03-2005, 09:25 PM Ugh, this thread reminds me of this..." You may experience gas with oily discharge, increased bowel movements, an urgent need to have them, and an inability to control them." This was from a Xenical commercial.

Dr. Thong 12-03-2005, 09:44 PM In most cases, the drugs' side effects are worse than the diseases they treat! No thanks, I'll just stick with my allergy rather than have headache, dry mouth, lower back pain and nausea. :D
My favorite is the non-drowsy antihistamine that has drowsiness as one of its side effects! Hel-lo!!:happyface

:D Exactly. Id only want to an endorse an item I believed in or used- or would use. Haha that reminds me of the Brady Bunch episode and Mike canceled their commercial because they didnt use the product so theyd be 'lying'.
KristinHerreraFan 12-04-2005, 08:42 PM 100% agrred! I can't stand it, I hate it!
dawsongirl 12-04-2005, 11:02 PM You may experience gas with oily discharge
