I found this week's "Freddie" show so intriguing. For background, Freddie's deadbeat father shows up after not being in his life since his childhood. The show was about Freddie meeting his father, and his reaction to his father abandoning him as a child. They also showed Freddie trying to forgive and accept his father, and then in the end reject the father (because the father was repeating his same mistake of becoming a deadbeat dad, yet again).

The whole time I was watching the show, I was wondering how jr. felt about portraying a son that was meeting his father that he didn't know growing up. That had to be hard and emotional for him.

I think I caught that his father's name was also Freddie in the show. The father looked and acted nothing like our Freddie, yet felt I was trying to glean way more information from this sitcom, just for personal reasons... It was just plain strange!

Did anyone else watch the show, if so, what did you think about the topic, and what was your reaction to the story line?

I noticed his dad was played by Esai Morales who I remember a few of you liking on here. I think he played the young version of G-Lo's dad on a ep of his show. Mike thought he looked kinda the way Freddie Sr would if he were alive today. I did sort of but he's not as cute as our Chico...

I saw the show...matter of fact I don't think I've missed one yet. I liked this one a bit better because there was a bit more with Grandma. She usually just comes in, makes a wise crack about what is going on, then leaves. This time she talked a lil more and she wanted her son to be there for her birthday. As for the storyline about his father, nah I didn't really think it was meant as any kind of reference to Freddie. I do wonder though that since Freddie talked about his mother in the past tense, does that mean she's passed away or is she off somewhere too?:confused:

I was surprised when I looked at the TV guide and saw what the story line was about.

Esai Morales is Puerto Rican so that was a coincidence. I liked when they were both trying to get the same girl. Her name was Vanessa. I was a bit nervous to see how Fred Jr. would handle seeing his father coming back on the scene. One thing I have to say is I am enjoying Fred Jr's performance more and more. I could see him playing some good movie roles in the future. Oh yeah......... ;) And handsome?........... HUBBA HUBBA............ He is definitely his father's son.

Like Freddie would say......... Ave Maria purisima!!!

Hey Fred jr. (Or the person in charge of the show Freddie besides Freddie) if you're reading this..... Tell Freddie (on TV) to say "Ave Maria Purisima" for his dad's fans huh? :lol:

Yes i agree i think Freddie gets better every week! the episode was interesting and i found myself wondering what Jr would do if his dad was able to come back in his life...i do love how he spoke about what familiues do for one another, helping them out....you gotta respect a guy who stands up for what he believes!

I have been a regular watcher now of Freddie and sadly my DVR did not record the show! My harddrive was full supposedly and I wanted to see that one! I can't wait to see the rerun of it

Esai is a hot one for sure. I missed it this week.... In fact I think I have only really seen ONE full show...it wasnt bad but Im a Chico kinda gal at heart.....

When I heard the Loooooking Goood at the end, I broke into tears and my b/f changed the channel.

I have missed the last two weeks and now I am sorry I did. OMG Mariposa and I have always thought Esai Morales was a hottie. It is interesting that he was on this show too. I am glad to see him doing the Freddie show. I think it would be great if George came on the show sometime too! LOL

I think the storyline, tho different from Freddie Jr.s real life, would have been hard for him to act. Seperation, whether by death or divorce or abandonment is never an easy thing for a child, I know, being an educator. We deal with the hurting child all the time.

I agree with you Luckymama, and so eloquently put. I think it would have been hard for him to act a show that so closely parallels your life. It was so interesting to watch, and thought that Freddie did a great job.

I missed this one as well. I totally forgot it was on. If anyone saw it, I would love to hear what parts jr reminded you of our Freddie. That is secretly why I watch the show. It is just amazing/surreal to me that Freddie's son can be seen by us once a week. In a good way :)

I watched it and it was great,
Freddie tried to teach Zoey the value of a dollar after his sister gets after him for buy her a $300 cell phone after she said no.
he didn't understand the fuss because she is his neiece and he likes to do things for her, but when she goes with him to an auction, he wants to bid on the bloody ring towel from Mahamad ali's fight,
his neice talks him into bidding on something from harry potter and he ends up paying $900 he realizes the message he was sending by buying her all the things she wanted.
it was great and so funny!
i think it gets funnier every week.

I agree with Joy. The show is so funny and the part of Freddie trying to bid on the towel and being outbidded by his other family members using there cell phone and computer was great too. Freddie Jr bidding for the Ali towel was sentimental in a way since his father was a big boxing fan as well.

Macca pointed out to me that Freddie Sr was actually given a bloody towel from mahamad ali and that Jr now has it in his home, thanks for the reminder Macca.

I am sooo mad at channel 8 in Richmond, VA! They pre-empted this weeks Freddie show for a dumb show on local high school sports! This really pissed me off! Anyone know what the show was about & if it will be re-run? Channel 8 has pulled this crap before with shows. Sigh...

Ok this week's show was the Christmas show. It opens with Freddie having a Christmas party in his apartment with all of his neighbors. The party is so big though that it is also going on in Chris' apartment. Turns out one of Freddie's neighbors is out to get his apartment and has been since Freddie moved in. He comes to the party and Freddie and Sophia try to keep him busy, but he wonders away into the kitchen where he meets up with Allison. She's just gotten up and she tells him that she lives in the pantry. Technically she sleeps in there because all the other bedrooms were taken. So the guy sees this as his opportunity to get the apartment and he reports them. The lady from the condo board comes and tells Freddie that in order for his family to stay he has to get a petition signed by a majority of the neighbors. While he's trying to get that, he has Allison move in with Chris so they can't say anything about her sleeping in the pantry. Now Freddie, Grandma, Zoey, and Sophia go on their mission to get the signatures. Each door they knock on, Freddie gets an ok greeting but then they noticed either Grandma or Sophia and get mad because of something they have done. Each one says no they won't sign. Freddie decides then to have a big apology at his restraunt. He invites all the neighbors for a free meal and has Grandma, Sophia and Zoey, because even Zoey had an enemy in the building, all apologize to people and ask them to sign. Grandma goes in front of everyone and apologizes while Freddie translates for everyone, except she points out three people she really doesnt like and Freddie translates to them, she loves you and ooo you're her favorite. After all this, they are still short on signatures, so now is time for Freddie's tantrum. He blows up and says ok then he will move, but he had done everything he could to make it up to these people. Sophia told him no, she would move out. The neighbor that started all this then chimes in that he will take the apartment. He says "Isn't that just like the Puerto Rican to move his whole family in?" Very bad thing to say because the lady from the condo board stands up and tells Freddie that he can stay along with his family. The nasty neighbor loses again.
Now when Allison moved in with Chris, they started talking. He asks her why she's so nuts and she says she feels nuts but in order to get drugs for it she has to say shes depressed. Chris asks her what makes her depressed, what are the syptoms and she tells him, shopping, drinking, and binging. He says now that all this time he thought he was happy but he is depressed too. He goes around very sad for a lil while til Freddie tells him Chris you're not depressed. People look at you and say oh he's got everything, had it all handed to him. See You're not depressed, youre depressing. Then he feels better.
Ok, one more thing about this show, Grandma had a nativity scene going on and she was very particular about how it would look. When the show opens, the three wise men are outside the door. As the show goes on, they bring them in and then by I think Christmas Eve they have to put the baby Jesus in the manger. Christmas Eve, Baby Jesus disappears and everyone is looking before Grandma finds out. Chris walks in in the door with the baby and tells them he took him to the mall to take his picture with Santa. They get the baby back in the manger just before Grandma comes through to see him.

OK, I hope that explains it all.:)

Thanks for the info ya'll. The good news is that I found out they will air the pre-empted episode on ch 8 on Sat at 1 pm. So I will TIVO it & watch later. Maybe they knew how upset folks were over it being pre-empted...

Back on topic....I found this episode sort of resembling the one on Chico And The Man, where Chico's Dad returns after twenty something years.
