View Full Version : To the certain someone here who's name shall remain nameless... Brian Damage 11-30-2005, 06:07 PM who banned Solomon aka Retro tv collector, he will be reinstated. Next time ask TJ before doing that. RedWhine56 11-30-2005, 06:23 PM Maybe I'll get banned for saying this, but this post is silly. AFAIK, it was not public knowledge that Solomon was banned (apparently for calling someone an AHole...not polite terminology in my circle) and so I'm guessing this public post to acknowledge his REINSTATEMENT is to publicly flog the "unnamed person" who banned him...??? Please handle the 'behind the scenes' crap behind the scenes. Oh, and even if his posts shows "BANNED" in big red letters for a while, a simple, nothing mentioned re-instatement would have been MUCH classier. Lamont 11-30-2005, 06:33 PM I urge everyone not to get started on this one and turn it into one of those unpleasant posts where people take pot shots at each other ive dealt with both BRIAN DAMAGE and REDWHINE56 and both are good people so lets not get personal as for retrotv, YES he did use some choice picks of insulting and profane language in 3 or 4 posts in the last few days, he changed certain letters to symbols, so that the words were not 100% profane, but the point was clear, and YES that is most likely against the rules-- as to whether or not he is banned or reinstated, that is for the moderators and TJ to decide, NOT ME however, I do think that the moderators should probably discuss that BEHIND THE SCENES and not on the board i have nothing against retrotv, we have had some issues with dvd compatibility lately, BUT that is no big deal, and he is still ok in my book I just dont want this to turn ugly, because several posts lately have started out this way and end up with people taking sides and bashing each other and I REALLY HOPE that we all rise above the urge to do that :grady: :eatarrow: :tiphat: :gary: RedWhine56 11-30-2005, 06:41 PM I agree, Lamont, I don't intend for this to be ugly...I'm not saying whether Solomon should be banned or not (NOT my decision)...I do think behind the scenes stuff should be handled BEHIND THE SCENES - that is my single complaint and I felt the original post was in poor taste & should have been sent as a private email to the 'unnamed' mod. I apologize if it appeared as if I was saying anything else or making a personal attack, as that was not my intention. Lamont, I commend you...you are always trying to keep things in perspective. savageamusement 11-30-2005, 08:26 PM First off, if anyone has issues with this particular issue, especially a moderator, I enocurage them to discuss it with me personally. My email again is Savageamusement@comcast.net It isn't the boards choice when and whom gets banned, and it isn't automatically anyones business. But for the record. RetroTvCollector was banned for the duration of one week, because he, is required to comply with the SitcomsOnline rules just as any other user is. We as moderators would be hipocrits if we allowed Vetran Traders to say and do as they wished with no consequences. The banning was not immediate, a set of emails was sent out, it was requested certain behaviours cease- Upon agreening to that, and it continued he was banned for one week. It isn't for life, it wasn't a sentence. He isn't banished. It is merely facts. There are rules on SitcomsOnline. We have all walks of life, religious faiths, younger users. And certain rules are made for certain reasons. He can contact me, or another moderator at any time. He can contact the board owner at any time. However I do not think the expecation of a user being polite, and respectful to other users is out of the question, nor something I or any other moderator needs to apologize for. Sitcoms is supposed to be fun. It is supposed to be an enjoyable atmosphere- and we expect the same of all users. He was not singled out, he was not to be made an example out of. The consequence of being banned, is the same I would have used with any other user for the same situation. I considered it a cooling off period. This is not for the board to discuss, and although I welcome any discussion, this is more a discussion that should be held in private, then airing who and why someone was banned. Some of the reasons list below here, are not accurate, and as assumptions grow so do rumors. Please forward any complaints or questions you have to me, on this matter- and should you feel you need to question my choice, you can contact any other moderator. I stand by my decision. And my expectations of conduct. Agent 13 11-30-2005, 09:14 PM Understand that I'm speaking through a splitting headache, but the fact of the matter is, most of the time when retrotvcollector (aka Solomon) asks a question, he means it to be rhetorical (he doesn't really want an answer). The bottom line is that he isn't open minded at all, and his getting banned was a breath of fresh air. I wish that had happened to him sooner, even if it's only temporary. If retrotvcollector asked questions that he truly wanted answers to, things wouldn't get half as heated up. Maybe this next time around he'll think twice before asking questions with a hidden agenda. I doubt it, since he was only banned for a grand total of nine hours (?). IMHO lilhave 11-30-2005, 09:24 PM Really don't why all the posts and all the comments. ALL parents know that when your child exhibits childish behavior, behavior that is beneath them, rather then hit them, they receive time out. It's common practice, nothing unique here. Retrotv is a adult, at least in years and acted like a spoiled infant, showing all that if you can't get your way in a civil manner, it is perfectily permissable to resort to using a foul tongue. Would anyone not construe this as infatile behavior? So the only course open to Savage was to give him timeout for a week. Act like a child and be treated like a child. Or do we condone the use of street, gutter language and just shrug it off. Harvey TVFactFan 11-30-2005, 10:04 PM To Everyone in the Trading Community I apologize for losing my cool 3 days ago and never should have used that type of language. From this day on, I will treat everyone with respect and continue to enjoy the hobby of Tape Trading. Lamont 11-30-2005, 10:06 PM Well retrotv aka solomon has been reinstated allready and the odd thing is if u read the comments about his short termed banning on this TRADING POST board and then go read the comments on the CHIT CHAT board the reactions were polar opposites! the CHIT CHAT board were all organzining a petition to bring him back at once and it seems that most everyone on the trading post understood the reasons for the banning, and regardless of whether they like or dislike solomon, they understood hmmmm....... are we talking a red state / blue state thing here??? anyhow, he is back BUT lets all try to follow the rules better here INCLUDING using appropriate language and a big thanks to Savage, for doing what she thought was right and working so hard to moderate this board full of nut cases!! Lamont 11-30-2005, 10:08 PM ok, i wont start to preach on my soapbox BUT TO all of us, whether u agree or disagree with solomon/retrotv being banned or whether u agree or disagree with him being back on the boards, lets just all accept it, and accept his apology and let it go there is nothing to be gained by keeping an unpleasant situation stirred up so lets just all let it go, and get back to trading! Agent 13 11-30-2005, 10:16 PM This just goes to show that more than likely the only way a person can get banned is to rip someone off or not have strings to pull. TJ 11-30-2005, 10:20 PM Solomon apologized in that thread and it was closed. The problem I have with him being banned was that I was not consulted about it. It just happened. I saw none of the e-mails before now. I was hesitant to give any mods the power to ban people. I never clearly outlined any policy for them. We just played things by ear. Lamont 11-30-2005, 10:25 PM solomon is back TJ has made it clear, like it or lump it thats the fact, jack so lets all accept his apology and move on Savage did the right thing in banning him b/c of the bad language in several posts, but maybe she didnt run it by TJ first, so i understand his side of it too but lets just let it go people, unless we want to change the name of the board from trading post to "WHATS SOLOMON DOING NOW Board" ha ha ha scottdvd 11-30-2005, 10:29 PM I still say the rules should be the same for everyone regardless whether you have 24,000 posts or 2 posts. If it was me that used that type of language I would have been banned for good, no questions asked, well for more than at least 9 hours. Someone that has been a member for a long time should set the example, not the opposite. TVFactFan 11-30-2005, 10:33 PM I still say the rules should be the same for everyone regardless whether you have 24,000 posts or 2 posts. Someone that has been a member for a long time should set the example, not the opposite. Rob is right. Let's move and get back to trading and once again Scott I'm sorry and hope to trade in the future. I was having a bad day on Monday and shouldn't have brung it here. TJ 11-30-2005, 10:33 PM Solomon is a good member who had a bad moment. We've all had them. He's not the only veteran member who has been given some slack. He's generally well-behaved, albeit irritating. I feel like he learned his lesson just from being banned for 9-10 hours. RedWhine56 11-30-2005, 10:36 PM Against my better judgement & at the risk of prolonging this thread any further, IMO OP owes an apology to the 'unnamed mod' (whom we all pretty much know is ___) for even starting this "neener, neener" thread... Lamont 11-30-2005, 10:42 PM I just hope 2 things 1. I hope that Savage doesnt get discouraged from being our moderator over this situation, because she does a GREAT Job and we all know (tj included) that THIS board is the Hardest one to manage on the site. It has the most scammers and trouble makers and is a big pain in the tail to manage.. She did what she thought was right in enforcing the rules, and she was keeping the board safe, and she has commited a lot of time and energy into being the moderator. maybe TJ and savage can get together and clearly define things so that no more miscommunications happen. 2. I hope this doesnt set a bad precedent where we see more foul language and personal insults from other members because they are Having a bad day. Brian Damage 12-01-2005, 12:02 AM Just to clarify, I did apologize to combs in a pm. I also would like to apologize for starting this thread. I was upset when I saw that Solomon was banned. A "ban" and a "suspension" are two different things. If anything, Solomon should have been suspended not banned. At the time, I thought that he was being banned permanently for using some bad language. That does not merit a ban. I found out later, it was a "temporary ban". I know some of you are not the biggest fans of Solomon, but deep down, he is a really good guy that really means no harm. I apologize for my thread, but I could not allow Solomon to be banned for a minor infraction. Was he wrong? Absolutely. If it was a suspension, I wouldn't have said a peep. I apologize if I caused any uneeded tension or upset anyone. Solomon is not above the law, but as a long time member does deserve some benefit of the doubt. There are people on here who have done worse and nothing has happened to them. lilhave 12-01-2005, 02:38 AM Any baseball fans out there? I have also seen you immediately apologize at times when you got outta line, or when you were mistaken abt something. You may not have done it 100 percent of the time, but you did it. That is more than I can say for a few posters who continue to berate, harass, intimidate, name-call, use PM's for their own agendas (not being seen on the board being @!#%&*). I want to commend you for standing up and being an adult and apologizing for your behavior. I didn't see the posts that caused you to be banned, but I don't need to. You apologized and like I said, thank you for being an adult abt it. WE ARE ALL GUILTY of posting things here we shouldn't...but you are man enough to admit you are wrong abt it. I find it disgusting when people aren't ashamed of what they have posted. Thanx Soloman. Ireneparalegal 12-01-2005, 02:48 AM Any baseball fans out there? I'd like to uncork some interesting names for people. Wouldn't that be fun?" It will be like the old west in towns like Cheyenne, Abilene, Fort Worth etc. where the cowboys came in after a long trail ride, shot it up, got drunk and grabbed all the loose women. Anything goes. With the admittance of all those bounced in the last nine months the message is clear. Don't like something cuss im! out. Make a trade and stiff im! like a unnamed canine creature, then curse and your back.
