Hello i have one question, when good times first hit the arwaves in 1974, did it take allot of heat from the black comunnity for portraying a black family living in the ghetto an never getting a break

I think at FIRST it actually got really good reviews because it was showing a stable (intact) black family with good values AND a mother and a father raising their children. After John Amos (James) was killed off, it was another story. Of course, Norman Lear wanted it to be a single mother from the start. It was Esther Rolle (Florida) who INSISTED a father be on the show.
