View Full Version : TV LAND!! What Happened!! eddie146 11-25-2005, 03:02 PM geesh, tvland is almost as bad as nick at nite now!! little house ugh!! what happened!! their whole line up is stale, old and terrible...night court, come on!! Mr. Television 11-25-2005, 03:05 PM While I agree that TV Land isn't as good as it used to be , Little House and Night Court are both classics. TV DVD Fan 11-25-2005, 03:59 PM Night Court is a classic, it's one of the funniest shows around, why don't you like it? Pat tvfan 2 11-25-2005, 04:20 PM I think tv land should show different tv shows each day. that can put 50's 60's and 70's show different days. spunkygirl 11-25-2005, 08:07 PM Yeah Little House and Night Court are classics. I don't see why they shouldnt be airing Little House, I'm surprised they didn't air it sooner ;) Mrgman 11-25-2005, 09:55 PM My problem is the originals. TV land confidental, 60 minutes come on now those are not classics ClassicTVGal 11-25-2005, 10:29 PM Well "Little House On The Prairie" isn't a favorite of mine, I now find myself watching it sometimes. And I love "Night Court" now, it's a favorite of mine. I definatley think TVLAND is doing a *much* better job with shows than Nick@Nite has been doing. Goodness. I do wish TVLAND would bring back some shows, including: "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and three I haven't seen in a years: "Family Affair" "That Girl" "Julia" It'd be nice to see ones that we haven't seen in FOREVER. And I *really, really* wish someone else would pick up "Who's The Boss?"! Esp TVLAND to get it when N@N drops it this May. cpmaz 11-26-2005, 01:09 AM geesh, tvland is almost as bad as nick at nite now!! little house ugh!! what happened!! their whole line up is stale, old and terrible...night court, come on!! While I have never been a fan of Little House on the Prairie, it *is* a classic show, and simply put, Night Court was a great show, perhap one of the 10 funniest sitcoms ever. What's your problem with them? As another poster noted, TV Land's problems start with their "original" programming, most of which are just clip shows from the series on their roster. They are in danger of coming down with MTV/VH1-itis - forgetting about what made them popular in the first place. treky 11-26-2005, 03:28 AM besides their original programing, they show too many marathons and repeats sometimes. They've showed "The Dick Van Dyke show revisited" over and over again, and they just showed it AGAIN on Thanksgiving night, after they just showed it a couple weeks ago! Same with "Still Brady after all these years". And, this weekend they're showing ANOTHER "Good Times" marathon! And I heard that soon they're going to have ANOTHER "What's Happening" marathon!! And in the past it seemed as if they were almost always showing "Cheers" marathons! Thankfully, they've stopped doing that. dawsongirl 11-26-2005, 05:13 AM Night Court rules. :p I dislike the constant reruns too. That's sooo VH1. ClassicTV4Ever 11-26-2005, 01:03 PM I really liked it in the past when they'd air stuff that weren't normally on their schedule, like those "Time Warp" blocks that they'd air for two hours Saturday and Sunday mornings, or the themed Box Sets, or for holidays or specially themed programmed blocks (like the one time they had a mini marathon called "Baiowatch" in which they aired episodes of some episodes of shows that Scott Baio was in). They'd air a variety of older and obscure shows like "Angie," "Day By Day," "Working Girl," and so many others. It was so great. Number 9 Dream 11-26-2005, 01:50 PM I thought I would hate Night Court because it replaced Three's Company, but I discovered it to be a pretty funny show. It's not so bad. friendsfan77 11-26-2005, 04:43 PM I wouldn't want to see Little House on the Prarie on TVLand. Why? Because it already comes on the Hallmark Channel, the last time I checked. Just like for instance, Roseanne and Full House are good shows but why do they need to be on more than one channel? There are plenty of other shows in the vault that they could air if they had the rights or could gain the rights to airing them. I haven't seen much of TVLand especially since they stopped the Kitschen, Box Sets, and took off three of my favorite shows: Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart Show, and Barney Miller. They've also done some cool things, like when John Ritter passed away, they showed pretty much every series he was ever in. Although since Night Court is a highly popular and respectable series (and one of my favorites) even in reruns, I've been drawn back to the network. I'm also glad to see What's Happening!! come back into syndication, as well as another Merrython. Specials such as DVD Revisited and Still Brady are nice specials, and it's cool to see how rerunning said specials is a good idea in case of people missing them, but running different series and things into the ground (a.k.a. "rerun abuse") is not a good thing. Like as I remember they kept airing the same 8 or so episodes of Soap over and over. If they don't have that whole run, I can understand that, but why cycle through the same few episodes over and over again? Mrgman 11-26-2005, 05:14 PM please bring charles in charge to tvland Michael72581 11-26-2005, 07:05 PM The problem with TVLand is "Good Times". I can't believe that this show got great ratings for its 48 hour launch marathon weekend when its such a dumb, ********, serious, dramatic, and depressing show that's not even funny. How could someone want to spend their weekend watching a show that is going to make them depressed. I guess people either have no life or are crazy and don't know any better. TVLand made a very bad decision acquiring "Good Times". It was the worst decision they ever made throughout the entire history of TVLand. They should of thought about acquiring "The Jeffersons" instead of "Good Times". It's a better idea to acquire a sitcom that people are going to want to watch that will make them laugh than adding a show that is supposed to be a sitcom, but instead is made to make people depressed and is very unwatchable. I believe in miracles, so hopefully TVLand will soon acquire "The Jeffersons" and get rid of "Good Times" permanently. I hate "Good Times" so much that if I ran TVLand tomorrow, "Good Times" is gone permanently and "The Jeffersons" is back on the schedule. tvfan 2 11-26-2005, 08:43 PM I been watching whats Happening! I like it better then good times. TVFactFan 11-26-2005, 09:29 PM I been watching whats Happening! I like it better then good times. I can see why because What's Happening had a lot of fun episode topics. I don't like TV LAND Confidential Michael72581 11-26-2005, 10:20 PM I been watching whats Happening! I like it better then good times. Yes tvfan 2. You are 100 percent right. "What's Happening!!" is 100 times better than "Good Times". I watched the 48 hour launch marathon weekend three weeks ago and had a great time watching it all weekend. It had great hysterical storylines and great hysterical characters that made you laughing so hard from beginning to end especially Rerun and Dee. It was never depressing, never tackled serious topics, and always managed to be fun and entertaining. When I heard it was coming to TVLand, I made it a priority to watch it when TVLand had a 48 hour launch marathon weekend three weeks ago since I really wanted to see what it was about as I am always up for seeing new shows both old and new. Well as you all know I enjoyed it and added it as one of my new favorite shows. But while I watched the marathon, I realized that it was one of my favorite shows many years ago but had forgotten all about it since it has not been on syndication and cable for years now. My memory came back to me when I watched the marathon. I remember it being on WNYW Channel 5 here in New York City in the late 80s/early 90s on Saturday afternoons. I used to look forward to watching it then. I was very happy to hear that the shows 48 hour launch marathon weekend had great ratings. At this point, I think that TVLand should replace "Good Times" with "What's Happening!!". This means that it should air weekdays (Mondays to Fridays) at 5:00pm, Thursdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in a mini marathon, and weeknights 7 nights a week at 10:00pm, 10:30pm, and 1:30am. TVLand made a very smart choice acquiring "What's Happening!!". Let's hope "What's Happening!!" remains on TVLand for many many years to come. ClassicTVGal 11-26-2005, 11:22 PM I thought I would hate Night Court because it replaced Three's Company, but I discovered it to be a pretty funny show. It's not so bad. Actually Night Court did NOT replace TC. It was all ready on TVLAND before they took TC off. And besides, TC was taken off due to contract issues. (Even though it had high ratings) At least they moved it! Which is really nice. friendsfan77 11-27-2005, 02:12 PM I like Good Times, but I agree it's not necessary to have yet another marathon of episodes. It's not good to run a show into the ground. That's how people get sick of something. I reiterate, rerun abuse is not a good thing. big bertha 11-28-2005, 03:17 AM I think television programming in general has gone down hill. At least in my viewing area. I think the reason TVland picked Good Times over the Jeffersons is that maybe to them it is more socially acceptable. Personally I would take George Jefferson over JJ anyday. I have also noticed that several episodes of shows have been banned on their network-a Munsters ep and also an All in the Family one. The Munsters one is almost the same story as a Brady Bunch episode but they show that one. I don't get it. Anyway-I am totally sick of all this political correctness-what's up with that? And what is up with Tvland constantly airing reality shows that have already been on a million times!! Like Chasing(gag)Farrah-or their idea of a show-the top ten things or Confidential-snooze-boring!!! I for one have started watching Turner Classic Movie Channel and find it way more satisfying. I do also like Hallmark Channel better but Nick and Nite and TVland stink and will lose viewership. Even people on their own website messageboard have been complaining about it!! That's sad. So everyone, let's have our own countdown to how much longer TVland can last. Too bad but in my viewing area I don't have too many options-thank goodness for dvd!! Yahoo!!! I would be interested to find out what if anything can be done-because right now TVland could turn things around, but I don't see how they can stay in business too long if they keep losing viewers. We aren't as dumb as they (the suits)think we are. I mean there are so many good shows available to them(I am sure) and the public is begging for them. tvfan 2 11-28-2005, 07:40 AM I been buying lots of tv shows on dvd. Its great way to watch something that doesn't come on tv a lot. eddie146 11-28-2005, 12:46 PM night court just doesn't match up to the dozens of shows tvland does not show anymore!! addams family, odd couple, honeymooners, get smart, barney miller, kotter, ftroop, petticoat junction, gomer pyle, mayberry rfd, superman(george reeves),bilko, car 54,mr ed,father knows best, happy days, chico, brady bunch, love american style, mtm, dick van dyke, bob newhart, rhoda, that girl, julia, jeannie, bewitched, baretta, kojak, starsky, streets of san francisco, barnaby jones, cannon, dragnet, etc. Mr. Television 11-28-2005, 12:51 PM night court just doesn't match up to the dozens of shows tvland does not show anymore!! addams family, odd couple, honeymooners, get smart, barney miller, kotter, ftroop, petticoat junction, gomer pyle, mayberry rfd, superman(george reeves),bilko, car 54,mr ed,father knows best, happy days, chico, brady bunch, love american style, mtm, dick van dyke, bob newhart, rhoda, that girl, julia, jeannie, bewitched, baretta, kojak, starsky, streets of san francisco, barnaby jones, cannon, dragnet, etc. All good shows but when you judge NC you must judge it with the shows that were on in the 80's. eddie146 11-28-2005, 01:32 PM just look at the list of 80's shows this site has listed, hardly any of those except maybe bunkers place is worth rewatching again!! Tweety 11-28-2005, 08:06 PM Yes, I agree that TV Land has been going downhill for quite a few years now, but primarily in their prime-time lineups... during the day they still run a number of shows that originally made the network popular (Dick van Dyke, I Love Lucy, Green Acres, etc)... and they gotta do something about these 6 hour Western marathons they run every Saturday and Sunday... I'll bet even fans of those shows can't sit through six hours of them EVERY single weekend! TV Land's original programming is not very good, imho... why do networks think that people are obsessed with "Top (pick a number) Lists"? Just play the old shows, that's what put TV Land on the map in the first place... if TV Land would have started out by running "Top 10" shows, how long would the network have lasted? Could have timed it with a stopwatch... And it is annoying when they repeat these pathetic shows like "Chasing Farrah" and "The Dick van Dyke Reunion"... I mean, if you don't have a VCR by now, and you miss those shows the first 30 times they run them, I say tough luck... let TV land put these shows out on DVD and see how many (few) people actually buy them... that'll give them an idea of the quality of said shows...It's been 30 years since Farrah was even remotely relevant... I personally don't mind Little House (I liked it much better in the early years, before Mary lost her sight, I don't watch the later years of the show after the Ingalls adopted all of those stray kids)... I also like What's Happening better than Good Times, now that I've had a chance to see them both again in recent weeks... I don't understand the repeating Good Times marathon though... Both the Cartoon Network and the Game Show network long ago lost touch with what made them so popular, particularly the Cartoon Network... I hope TV Land doesn't end up like those two, it's not there YET... But, thankfully, many of our old favorites are being released on DVD (seems like the shows from the 60s are very slow to be considered for release, wonder why?) I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Green Acres, Dick van Dyke Show, Brady Bunch... jeez, even some Mr. Peepers episodes have been released, this has long been considered a lost show.... I've had a hard time getting back into Night Court, probably because my tastes have changed from my twenties to my forties... but I never missed it when it ran on Thursday's along with Cheers... I'm glad younger fans today can have a chance to see these shows that we enjoyed so much... I'd certainly like to see less "original" programing and more of the old (60s) shows, but I guess these things run in cycles...and more and more DVDs are coming out...we'll just have to sit tight and enjoy whatever TV Land shows you like, and hopefully get the rest of our favorites on DVD when they come out... And while we're at it, can we PLEASE ditch the "TV Land Moguls" airings??? Who cares???? Mr. Television 11-28-2005, 08:11 PM just look at the list of 80's shows this site has listed, hardly any of those except maybe bunkers place is worth rewatching again!! Their were a lot of great classic shows that aired in the 80's. I would like to see TV Land though air some rare shows like they used to do before I got the channel, mainly from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Michael72581 11-29-2005, 02:40 PM Another problem with TVLand is that they play these westerns too much. I mean every Saturday and Sunday for 7 hours they run these western marathons. I mean enough is enough. And plus I think its about time they stopped airing "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza". They already ran these two shows to the ground where they both became victims of rerun abuse. That's how people get sick of a show and then they start to hate it. megamanj2004 11-29-2005, 05:45 PM The same can also be said for GSN, too! The problem w/ TV Land is that they've become lazier and lazier to the point where they're just almost braind dead. And I'm not surprised that no has mentioned the way they've screwed w/ the closing credits on various shows now, too! Instead of one promo airing, they've split screen those really annoying promos over the clsoing credits, too! They'll show one promo w/ the show coming up next and then play they damn logo w/ that irritating "TV Land Presents To You...What the Heck???" promo! Pretty soon, they're gonna be the next network to go the route GSN and a few other netowrks have w/ their credits to the point where we can't see them at all! I agree NC is a "CULT" classic, but not on the level of Classic classic like Dick Van Dyke, yet! WH is better than Good Times plotwise, b/c of the fact that they have better plotlines and the topics were more braoder than those on Good Times and The Jeffersons. I also agree that TV Land could do a vertivision block (at least once a month or so), dedicated to most of the shows that they don't have on their schedule. I'm not a big fan of Little House on the Prairie, but why do they have it on two cable channels? The same can be said for Roseanne, Full House, and the Cosby Show, too? I actually like some of the '80s shows they have on, just as long as TV Land doesn't go into the '90s shows that much then I'm happy w/ it. TVFactFan 11-29-2005, 07:41 PM I just want to know why INTERNS are doing the Editing at TV LAND-lol Chad Michael Murray 11-29-2005, 07:48 PM This is like the same thing I was saying in my thread about Nick at Nite. I absolutely hate when networks do this. The entire reason TV Land came about was to show the shows that Nick at Nite no longer aired. N@N's programming became more modern, eventually to the point now where every show on their schedule originally aired during MY lifetime, and I'm only 20 years old! I guess now TV Land is going to run themselves into the ground too, and then we're going to have to have ANOTHER network to air all of those old shows. I wonder if the vicious cycle will ever end. big bertha 11-29-2005, 11:48 PM It seems to me there are many 80's shows that would be popular and even I would like such as Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Perfect Strangers,Mork and Mindy(why isn't this show anywhere?). I mean if you don't laugh at Mork there is something wrong!! It seems that Viacom is the parent company of Tvland-if that is the case there are so many great shows in their vaults!! Such as Get Smart, Hawaii Five-0, Wild Wild West. And I for one would like to see the Fugitive, The FBI and more Quinn Martin Shows. Or how about Newhart(now that was funny!!) It seems to me that TVland is just being too cheap!! It must be cheaper to rerun junk than to try and put on some good reruns. Why not surprise us once in a while!! And I don't mean with Baywatch!! What was up with that Marathon. So totally not meant to be shown on TVland!!! Did anyone hear about the new FCC rules maybe for next year. Cable subscribers maybe able to pick their own channels. I would try to pick another channel that shows great oldies programming. Now if I knew what channel that would be!!! treky 11-30-2005, 02:50 AM Another problem with TVLand is that they play these westerns too much. I mean every Saturday and Sunday for 7 hours they run these western marathons. I mean enough is enough. And plus I think its about time they stopped airing "Gunsmoke" and "Bonanza". They already ran these two shows to the ground where they both became victims of rerun abuse. That's how people get sick of a show and then they start to hate it. sorry to dissapoint you, but I read on another website that TV LAND plans to keep showing "Gunsmoke" for a looooong time. Which is good news for me, because I love the old westerns, and I hardly ever watched "Gunsmoke" when I was growing up. PLUS, it was on for so long (20 years) every time I watch it, it's always a brand new episode to me. friendsfan77 11-30-2005, 04:05 AM It's not the fact that Gunsmoke is on that bothers me so to say.. it's just that shows like that get run into the ground like Michael72581 says. Chain Gang Member 11-30-2005, 04:03 PM I think that we'd have more shows on TV LAND if they didn't show Gunsmoke & Bonanza marathons on the weekends. One or two episodes are enough for the day Jack1000 11-30-2005, 04:11 PM Why is TV Land bothering with that crap Chasing Farrah? What does that have to do with Classic TV shows on which this network was founded? Not a fan of the top 10 specials either. Like an above poster said, just play the old shows! I really miss Leave it to Beaver in prime time as well! Jack Tweety 12-01-2005, 08:02 AM sorry to dissapoint you, but I read on another website that TV LAND plans to keep showing "Gunsmoke" for a looooong time. PLUS, it was on for so long (20 years) every time I watch it, it's always a brand new episode to me. Hi Treky, maybe you can answer this question then... I don't know how long TV Land has been running these Western mini-marathons, but it seems like it's been for quite a few months now, maybe close to a year? Are you able to watch six hours of Gunsmoke every weekend? The reason I ask is because I've said in previous posts that, while Gunsmoke and Bonanza were good shows and popular for a long time, it was my theory that even fans of a show can't watch six hours of it every single weekend for months on end... You didn't mention Bonanza, so I'll ask you about Gunsmoke... How often do you, as a fan of the show, actually watch all six hours of "Gunsmoke" on a saturday (or Sunday?) afternoon? Only speaking for myself, I don't think I could watch a six hour marathon every weekend, over a period of months, even if one of my favorite shows was running (such as Beaver, I Love Lucy, Hogan's Heroes, Green Acres or Get Smart). Although I guess if they did decide to do that with a show like Get Smart, which, as far as I can tell, shows no signs of coming to DVD, I'd probably just run the VCR for the whole mini-marathon, then transfer the eps to DVD with the commercials cut out, that way I could watch the show whenever I wanted... But do you, Treky, try to catch the entire six hours every weekend? If you see this and have time to post a reply, thanks! I've just been curious about this subject... treky 12-01-2005, 04:31 PM ok, ok; I'll admit; I don't watch all 6 hours of it! and maybe you haven't heard the news about "Get Smart" coming to DVD. Check out this site for info. on it http://www.wouldyoubelieve.com also: www.tvshowsondvd.com jeffersonsfan 12-01-2005, 06:22 PM Hey TVLAND! Bring back The Jeffersons now! And Alice too! Chad Michael Murray 12-01-2005, 07:21 PM I've always thought that six hours of westerns on the weekend was just plain RIDICULOUS. I mean, what is it about them that makes them so special? There are plenty of other shows that could be shown during that time...and I just wonder, like you, how many people actually watch that for six hours. I don't see why it's so far-fetched of an idea to show one Gunsmoke and one Bonanza a day and if somebody misses that airing, well then that's just tough. spunkygirl 12-01-2005, 08:47 PM TVLAND is all about ratings, that's most likely why they won't air so many classic shows like Gimme A Break, Kate & Allie, The Hogan Family, etc..... they probably figure those shows would bomb, and unfortunately they probably would. Like Facts of Life which started out with great ratings then dropped off :( I thought I read something here somewhere that the westerns do great ratings that's why they devote so much airtime to them. Tweety 12-02-2005, 06:28 AM ok, ok; I'll admit; I don't watch all 6 hours of it! and maybe you haven't heard the news about "Get Smart" coming to DVD. WOW!!!! 2006!!!!! That is a good thing... would you believe a great thinig? How about the best DVD news EVER! big bertha 12-02-2005, 11:47 AM The Western weekends aren't so bad-it is the fact that TVland runs shows into the ground. They seems to show the same small batch of episodes over and over again. If they want to show a Western block of shows they should get different Westerns etc. I mean show Gunsmoke, the Big Valley, Cheyenne, Maverick, Rawhide. I am with you Tweety-I love Gunsmoke and Bonanza but Tvland keeps showing the same episodes of these two shows. I end up turning off the set. One or two eps is not bad but all day!! And enough with Good Times!!! I love Good Times but enough is enough!!! I for one would love to see a block of old detective shows too. Or Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Just get some good shows and stop with the "reality programming"!! I am sure they have access to a great many shows that wouldn't cost them much. All I can say is bring on GET SMART and The Wild Wild West on dvd!!!!! I think the same company owns Tvland!! How ironic!!! gilligan fanatic 12-02-2005, 11:55 AM Another problem with TVLand is that they play these westerns too much. And, I don't know if you've heard, but there's a rumor that "The Odd Couple" may also come to DVD in April!!!! (however, PARAMOUNT, who owns the show, hasn't confirmed it. But I think they're probably waiting until Jan. or something) |
