Since the 1st season is coming to DVD, I thought it be fun to do quotes from the show. Only the 1st season.
I'll start it off.

Nell "Maybe the Tidy-Bowl-Man tried to make a break for it."

I like the episode when Nell brougt home a football player. When the Chief confronted her about it, and Nell quit, "It's just like you to not give two weeks notice", Nell: "Fine, I'll mail on on a BRICK!"

My favorite quotes are these:

Julie (without glasses): Who are you?

Sam: Sam.

Julie: Oh, Samantha!
------------------

Sam:I hate dresses. They show off your boobies.
-------------------

Sam: Is that what sex is all about?
-----------------

Grandpa: Whose having a baby. (To Nell) Well. I guess congratulations are in.

------------------

Simpson (To Sam locked in bathroom): Hello, there. This is your friend, Kermit the frog. You'd better come on outa there. Mr. Sunffoluffogus and I have the place surrounded. Little girl, why not be a nice little girl and come on out of there, ha? If you do your father will buy you an ice cream cone! (To the cheif) Go ahead. Tell the kid you'll buy her an ice cream cone.

-------------------

Chief: Plastic porno! (When he helps Sam put the skeleton figure together.

--------------------

Bill (A Guest Star) (To Sam):Grown-ups think kids have nothing to say. Kids think grown-ups have nothing to say.

Sam: Well, what do you think?

Bill: I've got nothing to say!

Sam: You know, Bill, you're weird, but cute. (Kisses him).

Bill: It's tough being a grow-up. I've been trying for years.

Nell: "Don't you remember?"

Bill: "It's tough being a grown-up...I've been trying for years...Haven't made it yet."

Nell: "I hate food you can hear."

Cheif: "I can't hear my Rice Krispies."
Nell: "Stick 'em in your ear."

Here are some of my favorites from my favorite episode THE EMERGENCY:

Nurse: The doctor will look at here shortly. Here's a form, here's a pen.

Nell: And here's a FIST! I want to see a doctor!

Nurse: Is that a threat?

Nell: No dear, it's a PROMISE... from ME, the Good Hands People!

And then there's this hilarious exchange between Nell and a woman hogging a pay telephone:

Woman: (on phone) Uh-huh, yeah? Oh Mildred you're kidding. Margie said that?

Nell: Lady, lady...

Woman: (on phone) Excuse me, Mildred. (to Nell) I'm ON the PHONE!

Nell: You might have to have it surgically removed!

Woman: Just wait your turn.

Nell: Miss, please. I have to call some worried people at home and let them know that everything's all right.

Woman: Well they can wait another ten minutes, can't they? I mean if they're really all that worried they're not going to to go out to a movie or anything, right?

Nell: Lady, I'm about to reach out and touch someone!

Woman: Just a second. (on phone) I'm back... no just some pushy woman... your doorbell? Oh sure, Mildred, go see who it is. I'll wait... no, no problem, mmm hmmmm. (she starts humming, then Nell sees a gurney about to be wheeled away. She takes the woman's purse while her back is to her and hooks it onto the gurney).

Nell: Your purse, your purse! (the woman drops the phone and runs after it)

Nell: (on phone) Hello Mildred? Oh girl I hate your guts! Yeah and I don't EVER want to talk to you again!!!

Nell "Maybe the Tidy-Bowl-Man tried to make a break for it."

I liked all the quotes......I was thinking of the episode when Carl shot the kid for his attempt to hold-up the corner store while purchasing items for Nell and his girls.

The cop who was hard on Nell, lots of funny lines, while nearing his exit of the Kanisky home, he told Carl that he should carry a gun because it is a lot of weirdos on the street, when the door closed, Nell said, the weirdo population just went up by 1.

I love Nell, and trully miss her and Dolfph, they were magical on screen.

I remember before the holdup happened, the clerk kept giving the Chief a lot of grief regarding the items he was purchasing (Julie's cream rinse, Nell's panty hose, etc.).

Clerk (after the Chief explains some of the items are for his daughter): "QUEEN SIZE pantyhose? What's your daughter, a Green Bay Packer?"

I loved Grandpa Kanisky and his bad hearing:

Grandpa: You don't have to yell anymore. I got a brand-new hearing aid. Everything comes in clear as a bell.

Carl: Yeah? That's great, Pop. What kind is it?

Grandpa: (Looks down at his watch) About half past five.

Angie had a good one in the episode with Danny Glover, where Nell was staying with Angie:

Angie: I used to have trouble drinking with straws. Then I started taking the paper off them.

Nell: Angie baby, how can such a small head hold so much air?

Angie: I sleep with the windows open.

I also liked the one that referred to that cheesy wine commercial from the late 70s-early 80s, where the woman in a slinky dress tells someone over the phone "... before it wasn't considered respectable for a woman to invite a man over for a drink..."

Julie asks Katie advice on asking a boy out and Katie says something along those lines, with the tag line "... but now, it's downright upright!!!"

Julie then responds, "Oh please, don't compare me to that STUPID woman on the TV commercial!"

I have this episode on DVD and I think that "OKRay" did a "great" job of describing Nell's Interactions with the woman on the pay phone! I thought that it was very funny when each time Nell said something in an attempt to reason with the woman, the woman would respond by saying something that she thought was so cute and witty! When the woman realized that Nell would not budge, she, in an attempt to get as much privacy as possible, turned as far as the phone cord would go. At the same time that Nell saw the gurney about to be wheeled away, she noticed that the lady had turned far enough so that her purse was out of her site. It was while the lady was singing to herself waiting for Mildred's return that Nell hooked the purse on the gurney and then poked the woman. Let's see this lady think up a cute little response to "Your Purse! Your Purse!" I thought it was halarious when this little lady who thought that she was so hotsy totsy when charging after her purse!

I would agree that, in this episode, although Nell's interactions with the busybody on the phone were the best, her exchanges with the fiesty nurse were very close behing! It was great when Nell told the nurse to go sit on a thermometor and when she respond to the phrase here's a form and here's a pen with, "and here's a fist"! Also, it was "halarious" when the nurse told Nell that what was going on was highly irregular and she responded with "try prune juice"! Another funny one was when the nurse told Nell that she had a lot of important work to do and Nell said "someone has to put the bed pans in the freezer"!

Although I realize that this is a situation comedy and that you are not really supposed to look at things too logically, I would say that something that happened in this episode was a little inconsistant with something that would later happen in "Samantha's Protest". If you are interested in my ideas about this episode, you can to the the post that I did yesterday. In this episode, Katie was of the attitude that, we were in a progressive enough time so that it was okay for a girl to ask a boy for a date and that she was trying to convince Julie to subscribe to the same point of view. Two years later, we find Katie having walked past an attractive boy without talking to him but talking herself into believeing that we was whistling at her. It was obvious that she was trying to talk herself into believeing that if he was already whistling at her, it was only a matter of time before he approaches her for a date. At the protest, she acted on the school of thought that all he needed was a little encouragement. I thought that her fruitless efforts in this situation were priceless! When Julie yanked one of Katie's arms away from the boy, looked towards Nell and said "that's discusting" I tended to aggree with Julie's point of view. I have "no" problem seeing why she was embarrassed by Katie's x-rated behavior! What seemed to be implied here was that, Katie could twitch her butt and bounce her bosom all she wanted, but that if the boy did not ask her out, she was out of luck. The only explanation that I can think of as to why Katie did not ask the boy out was that she thought it was inapproprate for a girl to do such a thing. It makes me wonder what happened in the course of two years that made Katie change her school of thought. For the sake of the later episode, I am happy that we went back to a more old-fashioned school of thought. This way, we get the pleasure of seeing Julie, Samantha and Nell stick it to Katie for thinking that she was so sexy and sophisticated!

I am bringing this thread to the top of the page hoping that I can stimulate some more conversation about this show. It has been "weeks" since anyone other than me has posted anything on this page! I do not know if this means that the show has sank into prehistory. I am wondering if people feel that, since things to not look too promising in regards to getting more seaons on DVD, they are trying to take their minds off of this show. In any event, in the recent past, I have tried "countless" times to start a new thread in hopes of getting to ball rolling again! No luck. In any event, I have already posted quite a bit about what I liked about "The Emergency" in general and Nell's interactions with the busy body on the pay phone in particular. I guess that my favorite quote from the first season is "your purse, your purse"! Seeing that little drop the receiver and go charging after her purse was "halarious"!

I know that the issue that I am about to raise now is one that I have raised before, even on this very thread! However, back when I stated my case the first time, I was not knowlagable enough to use the "Quick Replay" feature and so my response message stood as a message of its own. In any event, the purpose of this past is to point out the differences in points of view that were expressed in the first season episode that "OKRay" had written about and the third season episode known as "Samantha's Protest". Yes I, know that "Samantha's Protest" is one that I have posted oodles of messages about and that it looks like I am obsessing! In any event, in this episode Katie was all for the practice of a girl asking a guy out on a date and she tried to sell this notion to Julie. In the end, this practice proved to be effective for Julie! However, two years later, we have Katie whose hormones are on roller skates for a guy who she and Julie passed on their morning strole. If Katie was still of the belief that she tried to sell to Julie, she would have probably approached the guy and talked to him rather then just talk herself into believing that he was whistleing at her when he was really calling his dog! Later, at the protest, she flurted her butt off and acted in a manner that was, in the words of Julie "disgusting"! Her X-Rated behavior got her nowhere! It was a clear form of poetic justice when Katie learned that the boy was taking Samantha to a movie the next day! However, the thing that I do not understand is what happened in the course of two years that caused her to change her school of thought!

I would say that there were quite a few things that I liked about this episode! To start with, being that Julie was always my favorite character, I liked episodes that revolved around her. One incident that I really enjoyed was when Nell and Katie were trying to teach her to dance. I thought it was great when Julie bent down and started twitching her butt! I also liked when the two sister were headed out the door to go to the club meeting. Julie looked so cool swinging her little purse by the carrying strap! God Bless You Julie!

I am responding to this thread for two essential reasons. The first is to thank the administrator for helping me deal with a situation that was really getting out of hand! By this person's pen name, I am guessing that it is a female. I think that she shows real character! My second motive has to do with the fact that actress Kirstie Alley turned fifty-four years old yesterday. At this point a lot of you are probably wondering what in the world this has to do with "Gimme a Break!" It all has to do with attractive women who are getting on in years. All over this board, there are posts about babes who have turned forty and above. One chick who I thought looked really hot in her latter years is Cythia Harris who played Sylvia Buchman on "Mad About You". Just for the record, earlier this morning, I brought a message to the top of that page to celebrate this event. I also brought threads to the tops of the pages of Will and Grace, Three's Company and Facts of Life. In any event, I was going to use the thread titled "Sylvia's Butt" to discuss this topic on this page. However, becuase this thread is already at this top, I have decided to use it instead. In my last post on this thread, I mentioned how my favorite first season quote is "your purse, your purse"! The guest star that this line was said to was already in her sixties when this episode was made. I thought that she looked great for her age and did a very good job of playing a hotsy totsy lady! Of all of the actresses who have performed in their later years, she is my favorite!

Since the 1st season is coming to DVD, I thought it be fun to do quotes from the show. Only the 1st season.
I'll start it off.

Nell "Maybe the Tidy-Bowl-Man tried to make a break for it."

This is the third thread that I am bringing to the top of this page since I sat down this evening. All of these have to do with the number of new people who have recently joined our community. I thought that some of them might be willing to share with us what their favorite first-seasons quotes were!

So far, this is the eighth thread that I am bringing to the top of this page in less than twenty-four hours! It is really all an effort to stimulate some conversation about this wonderful sereis that the world has tended to forget! I really wish that more seasons would come out on DVD or it would be more widely shown in syndication. In any event, because of how good a job I feel that "OKCRay" did in explainding this situation, I am using this as something to quote. After posting this message, I will leave the board for a while and then come back. It would really make my day to be able to read other people's favorite first season quotes!

By the time that I post this message, it will be almost an hour since a brought another oldie but goody to the top of the page. Since I raised it, there have not been any responses to that one or any other threads on this page. The last one that I brought to the top was the third one that I raised this sitting. After having failed to stimulate any conversation so far, I thought that I would bring this thread to the top just for the heck of it!

One thing that I have tried many times over is to get some of these oldies but goodies started again after they have stagnated for a while. More often than not, I am not too successful. However, over on the "Brady Bunch" page, someone raised to the top a thread that did not have any responses for years. I really admire this poster initiative! In fact, it has inspired me to try again on this page! I think that I will start off this evening by bringing this and one other thread to the top of the page. Because I think that this poster did an especially good job of explaining the quotes from this episodes, I am choosing this one to quote. Let us see what happens!

All evening, I have been rotating between this page, "Friends" and the "Facts of Life" in an attempt to stimulate some conversation. So far, I have a few new views, but no new responses. I do not know if there was something good on TV or a sporting event or some other activity that has been keeping people distracted from coming to this board. In any event, I have tried both starting new threads and bringing oldies but goodies to the tops of these pages. I am now looking at this as simply one more attempt! As some of you might already know, I have finally joined the "Youtube" community. Just like here, I have posted message after message in an attempt to stimulate some conversation! Well, a couple of days ago, I read a message from someone who claims to have grown up with the son of the actress who played the busy body hogging the pay phone that this response is about! I have already sent this person a personal message and am waiting for a reply! Also, as some of you might know, this very episode is up on "Youtube". Another member posted a message quoting Nell in her line "you may have to have it surgicially romoved"! I have also sent a personal message to this person. I will be very excited if either of them responds to me!

How about from when she introduces herself to the Silver Slippers: "Hi! I'm Julie Kanisky and I'm a loonior at Jincoln High..."

I am also very fond of this episode! There are two parts that I am especially fond of. The first is when Nell and Katie attempt to teach Julie how to dance. I love when all three of them are jiggeling their butts! I think that Julie has the best butt of the trio! On top of this, I like when Julie starts swinging her little maroon purse by the carrying strap. God Bless You Julie!

It seemed that, for a while, things were picking up on this page. However, now they have really slowed down again. I tried to see if I could start some conversation by bringing some of my old favorites to the top of the page. So far, I have brought up three and none of them have any responses. Maybe the fourth time will be a charm!

Need I say it again. OK, I will. Lay off Smartboy. You are harrassing him all over the place. Stop it immediately! He was merely quoting lines from the show.

In the recent past, I have made six attempts to start some conversation about this fine series! Just take a look at the results (or lack there of)! My attempts have been a combination of starting new threads that I thought might be interesting and bringing some old favorites up to the top. As a seventh attempt, I am now bringing this one to the top of the page. Let us see if anyone new would like to tell us his or her favorite first season quote!

I know I know, I've got the complete series on DVD.
What I just lack is time.
Perhaps if I start from the first episode.

Even though I do not really have anything special to ad to what the last poster wrote, I am going to state that, I am very happy to see that, after eight attempts to stimulate some new conversation, somone other than me finaly posted a comment! I guess you could say that, in the last episode of the original "Flintstone" cartoon, Fred said it best with the statement, "It just goes to show that anything is possible"!

I like the one from the 1st season episode 'Grandma Fools Around'
Julie (Sarcastically) "What a tragedy...Thursday would have been 2 whole weeks."
Not sure of exact quote, so going on memory here.

I see that now this thread has been pushed to the very botton of the first page. Because I see that a little bit of action is starting on this section again, I am raising it to the top to see if more people might be willing to respond to it. By the way, the episode that has the interactions that I am making a quote from is uploaded onto You Tube. A little over a week ago, someone posted a comment there about the incident that this quote is mainly about. I mentioned that it was one of my favorites and asked the poster if he or she liked it too. In less than an hour, the poster responded with "Of course. That witch got what she deserved. Go Nell!" I have since started a thread about this interchange and called it "Nell and the Witch". I am now mentioning it again, just in case there is someone here who has not read that thread. Bye!

This is the third old thread that I am bringing to the top of this page during this sitting. I am doing it because I see a little bit of action picking up on this page and I am hoping that some posters will want to respond to some of the things that we were writing about once upon a time. I am choosing this response to quote because this also contains to my favorite quote from season one. Ever since I was twelve years old, I have been in love with the "your purse, your purse" routine! Since the last time that I was here, I have watched the episode with various people who were seeing it for the first time. My sister loved it! She now does a great impression of Nell's "your purse, your purse"!

In addition to responding to a bunch of new posts on this page, I have also brought an old one to the top in an attempt to stimulate even more conversation. The one that I brought to the top is one that I started myself several years ago and it is called "Sylvia's Butt". Now I am bringing this one to the top in an attempt to stimulate even more conversation. Just in case, some of you have not read all of the previous entries on this page or if you do not remember them all and do not want to backtrack, I will tell you my two favorite quotes from the first season in order of preference. My favorite is "You Purse, You Purse" from the "Emergency" followed by "it is just like you Katie to put your own personal lust ahead of Nell's pantyhose!" from "You Prisoner is Dead".

Bringing this thread to the top of the page is yet another attempt to stimulate some conversation. I figure that, since the syndication channel has already cycled through the first season maybe some people who are new to the show or to this page, will want to tell use what first season quote they like best.
