View Full Version : Jessica and Nick Break Up
Janice 11-23-2005, 11:21 PM http://www.drudgereport.com/
November 23, New York — A month after Us Weekly first reported on the breakup of Newlyweds Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, the couple has jointly announced an official separation. 'After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,' the couple tells Us in an exclusive joint statement. 'This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.'
Us Weekly first reported the couple’s split in its October 17 issue; at that time, Lachey's publicist issued a denial of an official separation. Just last week, Lachey partied alone with pals in Miami, on November 22, he attended the American Music Awards without his wife, one day after the New York Post reported that a porn star was peddling a seamy story about her night with Lachey (Lachey's attorney has denied any impropriety). Tellingly, at the AMAs, Simpson's father Joe Simpson told an Us reporter of his daughter's ongoing media scrutiny, 'We are Simpsons, we take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’.'
The telegenic couple wed in Austin, Texas in October 2002 in front of 250 guests. 'You don't think it's possible to love the man you're looking at any more. But when you say 'I do,' you somehow end up loving him even more,' Simpson told Us in October of 2004. 'When I walked down the aisle it was like Romeo and Juliet.' The duo became international celebrities by televising their first years of marriage on MTV's Newlyweds. While the show was wildy successful and the duo reaped the benefits of their newfound fame — both released albums and Jessica, who earned $35 million last year, landed a starring role in 2004's Dukes of Hazzard (in contrast, Nick's solo debut, only a paltry 105,000 copies)— reports of trouble have dogged the relationship since the second season of Newlyweds.
During the filming of Dukes of Hazzard in the fall of 2004 the couple were apart for months as Simpson stayed onset in Lousiana while Lachey continued to live in Los Angeles. 'We knew when we go married that we both had aspirations in our professional lives,' Lachey told Us in December 2004. 'Some of those dreams are coming true and it means we’re not always together.'
Courtnee 11-23-2005, 11:24 PM I'm really not surprised
Stormtracker TF 11-23-2005, 11:29 PM I guess this means no more Nick and Jessica Christmas Specials. :(
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 11-23-2005, 11:29 PM I think if they hadnt done Newlyweds, theyd still be together. That show threw them into the limelight [she was never as popular as Britney or Christina], and people get jealous, etc.
oops sorry i just posted this is the music thread, sorry bout that
EmoJoe 11-24-2005, 12:13 AM Well isnt that a shock?
Courtnee 11-24-2005, 12:14 AM I guess this means no more Nick and Jessica Christmas Specials. :(
AW! DARN! *puts santa hat away* Christmas will never be the same again...
Chad Michael Murray 11-24-2005, 12:14 AM I think this is so sad. :(
However...
I like Nick and Jessica, but it always looks so stupid to me when people are like "No, the rumors aren't true" for 2 months, and then finally you find out that it was true all along anyway. It makes me feel like they're just putting off the inevitable.
Also, now I feel like it was really shady that I saw a news story a month ago saying that Jessica was seeking counseling because it was hurting her so much that there were so many rumors about her marriage ending.

I Feel the same way. :(

Darn it! Christmas is ruined now :crying:

No, seriously. I looked forward to that. This is crap. :cuss:
KristinHerreraFan 11-24-2005, 12:38 AM I'm not suprised about this! If you noticed, celebrity couples never last! Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt, Birtney Spears and Justin Timberlake, and more.
Chad Michael Murray 11-24-2005, 12:45 AM You're right, celebrity couples never last...
I mean, just look at Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas...Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins...John Travolta and Kelly Preston...Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick...Tim McGraw and Faith Hill...Heather Locklear and Richie Sambora...Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson...Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith...Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe...
Because we all know those marriages all failed...
;)
PrettyinPink55 11-24-2005, 02:11 AM I think we all saw this coming. I mean, the tabloids had been reporting it for months, and now it's confirmed.
dawsongirl 11-24-2005, 02:15 AM I feel sorry for them...if they're hurt by this anyway...and if no one cheated. Marriages breaking up aren't good. But on the other hand...THANK GOD WE DON'T HAVE TO HEAR ABOUT THE SPECULATION ANYMORE.

I have a feeling we'll hear about the "aftermath" for a while. Why can't they just leave celeb couples alone?

A lot of those couples aren't under media speculation though. We never hear anything about most of their marriages...with the exception of the last couple. They're more interesting as separate entertainers.
Nick and Jess are no different than Ben and J.Lo...the media broke their relationship.

That's true. At least it's a little different.

True True.
I wonder why some celeb couples get more attention than others. Maybe it's just how private they are with their relationships?
The Chauffeur 11-24-2005, 02:37 AM I have a feeling we'll hear about the "aftermath" for a while. Why can't they just leave celeb couples alone?
They can't leave them alone because it's their "job" to break up marraiges and write sorded crap about their lives. That's how they get paid. Of course their going to shoving it down the publics throats for a while, because idiots buy their crappy rag mags and then buy the "victims" crappy albums and go see their crappy movies because they feel sorry for them. In the end it works out for everyone involved.......*sigh* Hollywood sux!
Not really surprised.
But, they chose to have such a public relationship. They had a freakin TV show that followed thier marriage for God sakes! There's lots of pressure to put on a happy face for the media when things aren't going well.
Besides, she was destined to be a bigger star than Nick. She'll have some success in movies (okay, I don't see her at the podium giving an Oscar acceptence speech) and her records will sell. I don't think Nick will have the same luck with his career. Lots of Hollywood relationships don't last when one spouse is more popular than the other.
Anyway, I'm sure Johnny Knoxville is thrilled about the news.
PrettyinPink55 11-24-2005, 02:45 AM It must have really bothered him to be referred to as Mr. Jessica Simpson.

That hurts a lot of men's egos.
Superstar 11-24-2005, 04:19 AM I really liked Nick and Jessica...watching Newlyweds won't be the same :( :(
Karen* 11-24-2005, 04:41 AM I'm sad...I loved Nick and Jessica as a couple, even though they were sort of overrated. :(
80sTrivia 11-24-2005, 10:20 AM Sad, but I can't say that I'm surprised to hear the news that the couple has decided to split up...
*MIBabe03* 11-24-2005, 10:31 AM Not at all surprised. If you watch their show, you can tell they had some major differences. Aside from the fact that Jessica is a bigger star, Nick at times would look at her like she was dumb too. I feel bad for them in a sense, hell both of them waited for sex while they were in a relationship, because they thought they'd be together forever. Too bad that didn't work out.
MsOrange 11-24-2005, 11:38 AM man, that sucks. I was really rootin' for 'em. But in all honesty, who didn't see it coming? I mean, like someone else said, they televised their freakin' first year of marriage... the first year is the hardest, and they just added the additional stress of cameras. Oh well, I knew when Jen and Brad divorced every other couple was downhill from there.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-24-2005, 11:52 AM ****! :wallbang

I asked my mom if I can wear all black as a sign of mourning for Nick and Jessica. She said no.
I'm waiting for the "Jessica And Nick Breakup Special" on ABC!
A few sketches, some guest stars, a final duet, then off to divorce court as the closing credits roll.

Dr. Thong 11-24-2005, 07:20 PM Coming soon on VH1 or MTV: Nick And Jessica: Unweds.:D
I guess the countdown begins for Britney and Backup Dancer.:p
Dr. Thong 11-24-2005, 07:23 PM Nick and Jess are no different than Ben and J.Lo...the media broke their relationship.
Yes, but it's partially Nick and Jessica's fault: After all, they did decide to be a public couple even more so by allowing their lives to be filmed for a TV show.
They got exposure and celebrity - neither one was generating much heat with their music careers - but at a price.
Dean Winchester 11-24-2005, 07:27 PM this will be good for Jessica's career, but Nick's going to just go back to oblivion, unless 98 Degrees decides to do a reunion tour down the line, lol

well, Nick and Jessica are the ones who decided to film all their intimate moments for a reality show.
I don't think the media ruined them any more than that the relationship maybe wasn't meant to be. The world has been laughing at Tom and Katie since the moment they got together and 8 months down the line they're still together.

I can't see that generating much interest, since 98 degrees was a b-list, slightly below-the-radar kind of band. A poor man's N'Sync or Backstreet Boys.
If I were Nick, I'd be negotiating a book deal...stat!!

98 Degrees did have their moment in the sun though where they were pretty inescapable, I highly doubt they'd be selling out stadiums, but I'm sure it wouldn't be a huge flop either.
I heard that Jessica Simpson actually caused the breakup because she and one of the members (ironically the one you've never seen on Newlyweds) absolutely hated each other and couldn't be in the same room, so maybe now that she's out of the picture, they will make up
Steve M. 11-24-2005, 08:27 PM Somewhere in a cave, Osama bin Laden is drawing up his next attack on America, and we're talking about this!

True.
Man, I hope the media now works overtime on those 2. A sonogram machine?? Now he doesn't even trust OBs. Those 2 scare me.

If we dwelled on nothing but seriousness, we'd all go insane.

Mr. Stefani 11-25-2005, 05:18 PM Damn they were my last hope for a happy marriage. It's a shame what fame does to people.
