View Full Version : Why did everyone act surprised when Shirley got fired?
Ireneparalegal 11-23-2005, 04:59 PM The only one NOT surprised was Dee, and she was totally right when she told Raj and the guys that you don't talk to customers the way that Shirley did to the man who was really trying to give Rob a loan. Regardless if the man was not a real customer, it's not for Shirley to be rude to any customer. She didn't know who he was, and it shouldn't matter. I like how Dee said it out loud that Shirley was wrong.

Yeah, I hate to agree with Dee, but you don't talk to a customer like that. I worked in retailing and the customer is top priority. In real life, Shirley wouldn't have lasted 1 day at that job. LOL
Ireneparalegal 11-23-2005, 07:55 PM For real...Dee told it like it is.
TVFactFan 12-08-2005, 01:25 PM I think Shirley was more irritated by him being a suit on top of being picky about what he wanted. You have to remember she wasn;t used to serving a customer like that. But She still should have been a little nicer
Brian Damage 12-08-2005, 01:53 PM Even though Shirley was wrong, she was hired as that kind of waitress. She was use to dealing with teenagers. It was proven that the high school kids are what kept Rob in business and they loved Shirley.
CindyRoxiesLair2006 12-08-2005, 08:04 PM Even though technically Shirley was wrong to be outright rude and pushy towards that banker customer (and some others along the way), in Rob's Place, I'm very sure that she had her reasons for being irritated...
After all, that banker WAS kinda nerdy and uptight! (THINK about it)
He'd get on a MAGGOT's nerves...

Dr. Thong 12-08-2005, 08:09 PM Did any of those guys strike you as being particularly bright...??

Yea but you dont treat customers like that. And it wasnt just the banker, she was rude to everyone.

Is your life that boring that you have to reply to a thread started in 2005?
duckie 12-28-2011, 12:36 AM Who died and made you boss? If I wanna reply to a thread from 1949, I will, its none of your business.

If you think im talking to myself just because Im replying to an older thread then you dont have a whole lot of smarts. Seems to me youre just bored and wants someone to fight with.

You are talking to people who are no longer on the site. why is that so hard for you ton understand? Try starting a thread of your own for 2011 instead of digging up anicent threads started by people who are no longer on the site.

Why do you think these threads are still here for? If a current member wants to respond to my post, good, if not, so be it. Theres no sense having 4 or 5 threads talking about the same subject. Is that hard for you to understand?

Dr. Thong 01-07-2012, 02:10 PM Why did everyone act surprised?
Well, because...
1. It was in the script
2. It's a sitcom -- people are supposed to be shocked by stuff like this in sitcoms.
To me, the show was escapist fun. I wasn't looking for realism when I watched it.

I've read this kind of response on at least two other sites when a question like this is posted.
Me personally, I enjoy removing the obvious and having fun. Sure any tv show is about entertainment and getting away from reality, but a tv message board would then not exist if questions about said shows were not posted. JMO.
I hope it is okay for me to post here and respond to the question asked.

Teenagers or not, they are customers too. If some of the teens were being rude to Shirley, then so be it, they deserve a potshot from Shirl. If they went in to spend their money and did nothing to Shirl, why be rude to them? I suppose for the viewers it was funny as hell, and it was, but to stick to the question posted here, Roger was smart and should have not been surprised. I can't say the same for Dwayne or Rerun though.

Any Poster on this board that says IT WAS IN THE SCRIPT needs to be DRUG TESTED:lol:
That is something that always pissed me off on this board and we all know it's in the f*cking script but are just having fun. And the thing that confused me is people talk about soap operas all the time like they are real so why can't we do that with sitcoms?

I understand your point, and you are right.
I belong to this other site where that kind of thing is not acceptable. It is all about making conversation, asking questions, giving opinions, no smilies, no sarcasm unless it is directed at the show/tv characters, no going off-topic such as what I am doing now (LOL), no being rude whatsoever to any other poster, and no one word responses. It makes for a great flow of conversation.
Back to the topic, Shirl's attitude was inappropriate for any place, even a fast food place.

Are you part of another TV site? If so what's the site?

Agreed. No I don't think "in the script people need to be drug tested but I think they need to realize that we, as viewers have rights to express ourselves with reaction to story. Shirley was rude and even as a child, I always wondered why she was justified with her attitude towards the loan officer. He wasn't that bad!!! Sheesh!

Once TJ retires and hands over the site to me in 2015, any member who says.."it was in the script" will be permanetly banned from the site:lol:

you right, the loan guy was not that bad. he was just real nerdy but did not deserve shirley's rudeness. i always thought she deserved to get fired.
