I had just seen a special of Katrina and the pets that were left behinf. Yes some there just animals but,those animals are people pets some of the pets may never see there owners again,some have died,some starved, when the rescures were seeing if any aminals were left behind they had to leave some behind. You have should have seen some of themn they have not seen a human for weeks there were so happy,wagging there tails and all. Some people did'nt want to leave because of there pets,but there were some happy reuiouns . People are more important I agree,but if you had a dog,cat,brid or anythng else and you had them for years it's like leaving a child behind. I do feel real sorry for those of the people who got left and died, I feel bad for the animals also. Next time hopefully there won't be a next time, they need to protect the animals for one day the pets may save your life. :(

I read an article in USA Today about that, too and it pissed me off that so many people left their pets behind. Some were left tied to porches to fend for themselves. Some were left in crates and that's where they starved to death. One poor dog tried in vain to chew himself out of his crate and he starved to death, too. One guy left his dog in the back yard with a weeks worth of food & water & fled from Katrina. This guy thought he'd be back home in a day or two. I thinking a Catagory 4 hurricane is heading your way and you think you're going to be able to go home in a day or 2? What a moron!! Miraculously, his dog survived and they were able to be reunited by the ASPCA.

I always said that whenever I evacuate for a hurricane, and I have had to, there is no way my 3 dogs are being left behind. They come with me and if I can't find a shelter or a hotel who'll take them, then I'm living out of my car. I will never leave them to endure the trauma of the storm, then if the flood waters came and they were swept away, I would never forgive myself.

In fact, I'm fostering a cat who was left behind in Louisiana. The ASPCA loaded an 18-wheeler with a bunch of crates and they were brought to the Orlando Humane Society. I was fostering another cat, but her family was found. They had evacuated to Chicago. I'm still trying to find an Allen Gautraux who lived in St.Rose, LA. That's who the other cat belonged to. That's even if Allen is still alive. If they can't find him, the cat is able to be adopted, which I will do.
