He was, in a word, unique. Even though Kaufman was a stand-up comic, he really didn't tell jokes. His goal was to shock the audience, to leave them with a lasting impression. Well, love him or hate him (I kind of went through both emotions, at times.) There's one thing we can we probably agree on: he succeeded.
