I vaguely remember "Nestor the Long-Eared Donkey," narrated by Roger Miller. Not one of the most celebrated (or most repeated) of the many Rankin/Bass specials but an entertaining show nonetheless. I have to consult my book, THE ENCHANTED WORLD OF RANKIN/BASS by Rick Goldschmidt, to refresh my memory as I haven't seen that show in many, many years. It first aired on ABC, on Dec. 3, 1977 and was based on a song written by Gene Autry, Don Prumner and Dave Burgess. It was repeated a few times on ABC and was released by Warner Home Video.
I also liked the Disney featurette "The Small One," which also dealt with a
Christmas donkey. That came along ten years later, in 1987.

I still have "The Cabbage Patch Kids' First Christmas" on video tape. But I don't
have any means to make a copy.

80sTrivia 11-21-2005, 08:14 PM My favorite movie would definitely be A Christmas Story, the funniest Yuletide movie ever! My sister and I quote this film all the time... even when it's not Christmastime!
dawsongirl 11-21-2005, 11:45 PM When I was younger, it wasn't Christmas until I saw that Garfield Christmas special. I haven't watched it the past couple years though.
I seem to see Home Alone more around Thanksgiving than Christmas.

I think that was part of it and the fact that there were never costumes for them. My mom just wasn't creative enough to make one.

treky 11-27-2005, 04:32 AM MOVIES
A Christmas Carol-the one with Alistair sim
A Christmas Carol-the one with Patrick Stewart
TV SPECIALS
Mr. Magoos Christmas Carol-fortunately, I have it on VHS, because I've heard they butcher it whenever it's on TV
How the Grinch stole Christmas-the animated special, DEFINETALY NOT! that awful movie with Jim Carrey
A Charlie Brown Christmas
tv star collector 11-27-2005, 02:44 PM Jim Carrey's version of THE GRINCH was disappointing (more disturbing--almost
scary--than amusing). I didn't even bother to see Mike Myers' THE CAT IN THE
HAT. There are some properties that only can be done well in animation.
Chad Michael Murray 11-27-2005, 03:19 PM As long as I see A Christmas Story, How The Grinch Stole Christmas (The classic version, of course) and A Charlie Brown Christmas, all is good. Anything else is just icing on the cake.
But I do love at Christmas time, especially like the week OF Christmas, that it seems like basically anything you turn on your TV is a Christmas episode of some sort. It gets me all in the mood and it makes me feel like they're celebrating Christmas too.
Also, on a side note, the other day I saw Christmas With the Kranks and I thought it was actually a really good movie. I could see myself watching that every year.
treky 11-28-2005, 02:12 AM also, an episode of "The Honeymooners" that I have-it's one of the "lost episodes"-which were actually sketches from "The Jackie Gleason show" in the 50s, and were never really lost, because Jackie knew they were still around but noone ever bothered to ask him!
Anyway, this was one that was a half-hour, and Jackie did most of the other characters he played on his show, not just Ralph Kramden. He played Reginald Van Gleason the third, Fenwick Babbit, Joe the bartender, the poor soul, & Rudy the repairman (if you've ever seen clips of his show, you know who all these people are, and he didn't do one-a character named Charlie Braddock)
