When I had back surgery. Up until then, I thought it was giving birth. OH HELL NO!!! after my back surgery it was three months of agony. I never want to experience that kind of pain again. The only good thing abt suffering that kind of pain, is that any other pain I have experienced since then, doesn't seem so bad when I think abt that pain. I just take myself to that period of time and think "ok, it's not as bad as it was when I had my back surgery".

i don't know. i've never broken any bones (thankfully) but bruising my arm was bad. and it hurt for 2 weeks. i slipped down the last 2 stairs of my friend's house and my arm was bruised bad. lol i know, this isn't really pain but it did hurt!

i just got my tooth pulled today because i had the biggest alcer ive ever seen because my wisdom teeth were bitin down on my cheeks so they took the top one out it still hurts they didnt give me pain killers....you would think they would give me some vicodin or somethin GRRR

that sucks.

I fell up (don't laugh) a flight of stairs and my shins hit against the edge of the steps and then I fell back and twisted my wrist and hit my head against the floor. I had bruises on my legs and knees for months. It hurt sooo bad that I was shaking for like an hour. I'm not as clumsy when I'm drunk though. weird. :crazy:

My back went out on me a few times when I was like 12 or 13. It was to the point that I couldn't even move. That was the worst.

I also have to say that having asthma can be painful too. Your chest starts to hurt and you're trying so hard to breathe and you just can't...I hate it.

Earlier this year, I was walking out the back door of my school with a friend, when there was ice and snow on the ground. I have to go down some stairs into an alley-type thing to walk home from there. I was about to go down the staris and I slipped, and pulled a muscle in my back for the third time. Ugh, walking home it felt like a rib was out of place.

I had bronchotis and the coughing bruised my ribs and that hurt like hell, so I can imagine how terrible the pain would be if someone broke their ribs.

i've broken ribs a few times - playing hockey and falling off a drumstool while cooking Christmas-morning Chinese food leftovers, but what was MORE painful was lying on the ground writhing in pain as robyn stood there laughing and pointing at me :cuss:

also painful: getting shot in the thumb with a nailgun, then getting the nail taken out of the bone in the emergency room, having a drill slip and send the drill bit straight into my finger, then having to put the drill into reverse and back it out, having metal slivers dug out of my eye... there's been a bunch more, but after awhile they all seem to blend together

And don't forget about the horrible cramps that usually go with it!!

Spraining your wrist. Twice. Different times though...

First time I sprained my right wrist was in a rollerblading accident in the summer of 2001. It didn't hurt the day I hurt my arm. I went to bed that night and woke up the next morning, and I was in INTENSE PAIN. OMFGOWOWOWOW. If I moved my wrist even slightly, it would bring tears to my eyes. I had to go to the ER to have it checked out...I sprained my wrist pretty badly. :( Had to wear a sling for about two weeks.

Then earlier this year in May, I was going along on my bike. I misjudged a corner turn, hit the curb and went flying off the bike. My left side took the brunt of the fall so I am not sure how, but I sprained my right wrist once more. It hurt SOOOOOOOO much, I seriously thought I had broken my arm or something. Had to go to the ER again...Docs said I sprained my wrist pretty badly. Every time the nurse tried to turn my wrist while we were in x-ray, I wanted to slap her. OMGINTENSEPAINOHMYGOD. Now it acts up even more when the weather changes, which sucks...My wrist has been aching the last two weeks. :( It is so bad that I have to wear an Ace bandage AND wrist brace to bed.

Probably when I crushed my right hand at work about a year and a half ago.

Some of the veteran posters probably remember my stories about when I broke my left collarbone while riding my bike four years ago, but the pain when i broke my right middle finger was greater.

When my fingers were pinned under that steel beam, the pain was instant - it shot up and down my body and i was in shock. When my hand was freed, I ran back and forth screaming at the top of my lungs. I actually thought all my fingers on my right hand were chopped off. I was afraid to take my work glove off my hand, because I didn't want to see a severed finger(s) tumble out. My apologies to anyone who is eating right now.

My collarbone break took a while to hit me; probably because the adrenaline was pumping through my body, so I had no idea how much I banged up my body. I actually got back on my bike and rode the last block to my apartment - and when i got there, the adrenaline wore off, and I realized I was in serious trouble!

Second worst pain is getting your heart broken by someone you really loved.

I'll take a tumble on my bike over that any day.

Falling face down off a horse right after we went over a jump. I bruised the muscle tissue on my arm and had a bruise from elbow to shoulder. I couldn't lift my arm up high or hold it out to the side long enough and if I slept on it wrong it would hurt like a mother****er. Luckily it was my left arm when I am right handed.

Having my wisdom teeth pulled, no doubt. Horrible.

When I was 10 years old, I had one of my teeth in the back yanked out. The dentist claimed he numbed it, if he did, I sure as hell felt that. It hurted so bad, I bled in that chair, and I cried like crazy.

I've had bad bouts of bronchitis about 2-3 times only in my life, but each one was bad. It took my ribs almost a year to get back to normal.

Man, my pain is nothing compared to what some of your guys have gone through. That backing-up-the-drill-bit story sent chills down my spine.

I've broken a few bones in my time but don't really remember how painful it was as I was young when it happened.

More recently, I skewered my thumb quite deeply with an 18 gauge needle. May not sound like much but it's much more painful than it sounds.

Otherwise, I do tend to get terrible charlie horses in my calf muscles. I don't know if everyone's charlie horses are the same or if some people tolerate them better than others, but mine are intense and they last forever. They have been so bad that I'll wake up in the middle of the night from a dead sleep with one. The worst part about them, in my opinion, is there is nothing you can do for them. You can't ice them or heat them (well I suppose you could if you could manage to walk....I never tried), you can't take a pill for them, you just have to ride them out, wondering how long this one will be while you wait.

Still, if that's the worst pain I ever experience, I'll be doing pretty good.

Actually, there is something you can do for those charlie horses. My physical therapist told me to do the following:

When the pain begins, immediately point your toes so that they are pointing back to your direction; just turn your foot and toes as much as possible towards you with your leg stretched out. It will stop the pain immediately. Ever since she told me this, I have never had to "ride" out a charlie horse. I don't have that never-ending pain afterwards either. Works like a charm.

Heard this from several family members -- they all say drinking a lot of water will reduce the number of charlie horses one can get. You know, I have heard that abt the water and also eating alot of bananas, it's the potassium that helps eleviate the chances of getting one. I am sure if that's what works for you then, keep on drinking water. Water is good for you anyways!:D

I had to get three stitches after an accident I was in over 15+ years ago. I was only five when it happened and I STILL vividly remember the EXRUCIATING pain I was in as the docs closed up the wound. :crying:

i'm allergic to the freezing - I've had stitches many times without anesthetic, if the original cut is bad enough to need stitches getting them isn't that bad.

I have since learned that they can use benadryl to numb the pain - you still feel everything but it doesnt hurt.

A little over three years ago I had some weird stomach problem that they disgnosed as 'peptic ulcers.' (I dont think that was it.) Anyway, I was SCREAMING from the pain for hours straight one night at like 2:00am, and couldn't eat for a week.
