They've decided to do something about the CDs on computers issue (the rootkit thing.) articles on it are available in today's and yesterday's "USA Today" and at these webites: www.usatoday.com. www.news-herald.com, and www.toledoblade.com.

Also read the "USA Today' issues, etc.

Copy-protected-CD flap raises questions
Sony BMG's move late Monday to recall nearly 5 million of its controversial copy-protected CDs did little to quiet backlash from consumers, tech-security experts and privacy advocates. The CDs, with XCP copy-protection software from British firm First 4 Internet, are vulnerable to computer viruses. USA TODAY's Jefferson Graham answers some of the many consumer questions that have arisen about the discs...

they still arent doing enough to fix the damage done - the "patch" still can't undo the changes made by the software, it just lets you detect that it is there.

Then the record industry wonders why sales are down and consumers aren't happy with him. I will never by a Sony CD with that so called Copy protection on it. Basically all it is is spyware. Down with Sony.

this is MUCH worse than just spyware; this software installs a backdoor on your computer that could give someone COMPLETE control of your computer, there is NO way to remove it (short of reformatting your hard drive) and attempts to remove the software have actually rendered some CD drives useless

SONY STILL has not issued a complete list of what cd's have this software, and although they are working on it, there is no fix.

I guess that's one way to grow your customer base.

My brother works at Sony, so as long as I keep getting free ****.... they can do whatever they want.

:nonono: You wouldn't say that if your computer privacy was compromised by some of that free ****.
