Hey, I've been taping NC episodes for a while and I heard that towards the end of the show's run, it wasn't as good as it used to be. So I was just wondering if there are any good episodes from this season that would be worth taping?

Season 7 still has good shows and the first half of season 8 is good...it seemed to really change about mid-way through season 8 and continued through to season 9. While it was still enjoyable, it wasn't as good as earlier seasons. I think it's because season 8 was supposed to be their last. The series finale script was already written and then at the last minute NBC renewed for another season. The original finale script was scrapped and last minute changes were made to turn it into a season finale which led into season 9.

LOL...that's what I've been doing. But a couple I've kept anyway.

There were still good episodes from season 7. Mainly because Reinhold Weege was serving as a consultant for the show. He served as a transition for the new producers so they would understand his concept. As for subsequent seasons, season eight wasn't bad. The actors certainly liked it. Season nine was not my favorite at all. It was too much of a detraction from what the show used to be. The writing was not great. I could have written a better season nine. "A Guy Named Phantom" was good but a bit out there.
And as you already know by our rants, the series finale was the worst the show ever had...and it was their last ever.


As for the season airing now, certainly tape "My Three Dads." That was hilarious.

I always get thrown by seasons because some shows have two "seasons" their first year. So I just call it the 89-90 season. I liked the Tony storyline cuz it was a good shake-up, then stuff like Christine and Roz being diet buddies. 90-91 started off good with Dan's sister showing up, and "nice" Dan was a good idea (I know others disagree).

91-92 (the last season) was atrocious. Want to blame NBC for basically profiteering, knowing the show should've ended but wanting to drag out another year. But the cast is also at fault for greed as they admitted they were ready to leave but so much money was thrown at them. Just about every ep and the finale were UPN level junk.

I agree that season nine was lousy in every shape of the word, but I don't hold the cast responsible. Yes, they were offered as Markie Post said, "Jumbo buckets of cash" for returning to the series. However, for the most part, they were going into the deal feeling that this was truly it. They liked working together for the most part. The blame really for me falls on a few other people. Warner Brothers screwed over "Night Court' the most. NBC pretty much said that season nine was the end of the line for the show. However, Warner Brothers felt they could squeeze some more out of the show by trying to sell it into syndication. Warner Brothers were the true money hogs. By the time Warner Brothers discovered they couldn't sell the show, it was too late for the cast. They were sent a memo on the last day of taping that told them to clear out their dressing rooms or their things would be discarded. Cast memebers have openly said they were treated basically like crap by the powers that be. The whole fiasco resulted in a series finale that was not a thank you to viewers and audience members. I even read that the cast was not allowed to say a proper goodbye to fans because of what had been going on. Writers were working until the 11th hour to try and give the show some sort of ending, but were not allowed the fully end the show. They had to keep things somewhat open. Everyone lost out in the long run. The cast, Reinhold Weege, and mostly the fans. Reinhold Weege has even said that if NBC had let him take "Night Court" with him when he left, after year five, that he would have given the show a proper ending. However, "Night Court" was doing so well in the ratings that NBC wanted to keep it. That's basically what happened in year eight. Year eight was supposed to really be the last year. Writers were working towards a fantastic finale but NBC saw how well it was doing for them in the ratings department and didn't want to let it go. Therefore, in year nine writers had to go and undo everything they did. This is where the Harry/Christine fans were left saying "son of a gun." These two characters were set to get married by seasons end according to the USA Today. Producers had said that they definitely would have consumated thier relationship. Dan was going to be a priest, Bull was going to move to the Amish country and Roz was going to be guard in a Turkish prison. They never did say what would happen with Mac.

That's my rant. Warner Brothers is now screwing the show again with this DVD business. What fans really need is a reunion movie.

you're right, nitcrt1. Night Court casts deserve it, a real good reunion show. the best ending story that will last forever. and Reinhold Weege should create the reunion show... what you think?

Absolutely!!!! Come on NBC, Warner Brothers, Reiny Weege and cast, please, we beg you, give us what we were deprived of! Not only to make the fans feel good but to give you all closure.

What episode is it where Dan and Harry compete for Christine's friend and which Season? I saw it during the Marathon. (Unless it was after that.. lol)

LOL... makes sense. And I do remember that title name. Thanks, NitCrt1. I'm looking forward to TVLAND starting over with the Series already. But yet I of course still want to see the next coming eps. Esp when Christine finds out she's pregnant and decides to leave NY.

During the Marathon in that ep I knew that something must go on between Harry and Christine and I went on many searches wanting more about it. I just really wish more that the Network had just gone and done that Finale that they had planned. *A LOT* better than what they had actually ended the show with.

The episode where Christine finds out she's pregnant is a good one. Harry does have a conversation with her in that episode.

I honestly don't understand why the writers couldn't have continued at least the Harry/Christine stroyline into the final season. I think they missed out on some fresh writing opportunities. I don't think that they should have continued the storyline of Dan being a "saint." I thought the storyline of him turning into a goody-goody was a bad move. The best aspect of Dan's personality was that you loved to hate him. I did think it was great though that Dan couldn't keep Phil's money and that he had to be charitable with it. That was a challenge for a man who loved luxury. I just think "Night Court" deserved more freedom from the network to explore. That was what was great about Reinhold Weege. He did't give a crap what the network wanted. He knew his show and he knew what he wanted from it. He never listened to the "suits." That's what made the show great! I still would like to know how he would have ended the show. He never really answered me when I asked that question. He just said that he would have given it a definite ending.
