else think that Christmas is being 'advertised' earlier & earlier every year? It's bad enough that places like Wal-mart start putting their Christmas stuff out in September!! I saw a sign at a mall that Santa was going to be there on Nov.18th!! TBS showed "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" last night and Christmas commercials have been showing for weeks. Then all the ads for the deluge of Christmas movies that are going to be playing every night for the next 5 weeks!!

I still like Christmas but with all this starting so early, by the middle of Dec. I can't wait for it all to be over!!

I don't know why Santa can't wait until at least after Thanksgiving to start making appearances!!

One thing I am looking forward to is when our local radio stations start playing continuous Christmas music. I love that!! That usually puts me in a better mood.

But the rest...it's too much overkill.

Or am I just being a Scrooge here?

Yeah, Santa's already at our mall. It's like uhhh we haven't even had Thanksgiving yet.

agreed... I <3 Christmas though, but it's odd to drive by a house and see christmas lights when some people are still wearing shorts... the turkey deserve some respect too.

I work at one of the local malls. It's the second largest in the state, so it's like a ****ing zoo 24/7. Christmas is horribly... horrible. Lines 5 miles long. 5 of us cramped in a booth. Yah.

Yes, way too early. And get this...... Our local Meijer Store takes all the Christmas stock off the shelves 1 week BEFORE Christmas and by Christmas Eve the once Christmas filled shelves are filled with garden supplies! Christmas trees replaced by lawn mowers! I complained about that to the store manager but of course he didn't listen to me! Isn't that just plain stupid?  Merry Christmas................................:(

Yes, I have been seeing Christmas stuff since before Halloween. By the time Christmas comes around you are sick of all of it.

Karly, I know how you feel! It just rips out any Christmas spirit, doesn't it? Well, I usually have my shopping done before Thanksgiving. Mainly because I mostly shop online! I hate Malls!

Merry Christmas sweetie!:D

Agreed, September is MUCH too early for Christmas items. That is, except for craft items, since one needs to start early if hand-made gifts and decorations are his/her thing.

As far as Thanksgiving is concerned... Waaaay back when, when I was young, my city would put up decorations but not light them up until after Thanksgiving. I don't know what they do now, since my town is "politically correct." I don't quite understand the concept of politically correct Christmas decorations; doubt I ever will. If they're Christmas, then they're Christmas. Please make them look like Christmas deco. Pink and purple seashells just doesn't say "holiday season" to me. Granted... this decor was from several years ago. I have to admit that they are a bit more Christmasy now. But still... If they were to be truly politically correct, there'd be no holiday decorations or music at all.

Anyway, back to the topic... I think that stores are jumping the gun more and more because of online shopping. They need to let people know that the deals are available now, in your local shopping center.

It is sickening because people are losing the true meaning of Christmas.

I agree, but then again I think that after the years that we have all been having,I think it's kind of nice to have the christmas cheer around again.:)

It really is sickening. It kinda defeats the whole "once a year" thing, because it's not going to be long before "Christmas" is half a year holiday. I'm all for Christmas after Thanksgiving, because I LOVE Christmas and Christmastime, but c'mon...100.3 WNIC-Detroit started playing Christmas Tunes 24-7 after HALLOWEEN. Thats just pure insanity and it makes me somewhat mad.

Yeah, I agree. Thanksgiving is awesome in intself too, yet its begining to get completely swollowed up by Christmas.

Good point.

The true meaning has been lost though. People are more concerned about the extravagant gifts they are going to recieve rather than being together and bonding.
It's kinda funny, ever since I was about 12, I didnt even care about Gifts. I mean, I wont go so far as to say I never asked anything, but I found the real thing I looked forward to was spending time with my family.

Anyways, I love Christmas and feel the longer its celebrated the better. Thanksgiving is virtually the exact same holiday as Christmas, just without presents, and the catchy songs.
I agree, they have always felt like a companion holiday to me.

It's not bothering me too much this year because I'm really looking forward to Christmas. I can't wait! I've already bought a bunch of clothes and stuff for the little guy.

I'm really looking forward to Christmas this year too, but I always do. I just can't get it to click with me until after Thanksgiving. Not sure why.

Congratulations on the Baby!

Yeah, I hate it! In October, stores already have Christmas-stuff like decorations and christmas-cards. It starts way too early, even before Saint Nicholas (Dutch children's festivity/celebration on December the 6th). It spoils all our Saint Nicholas-fun.

As for Ramadan (sp?), I'm unsure how important it is, but it's more of a season than a holiday.

Ramadan is very important to Muslims. They don't eat, drink, smoke and have sex between 6 in the morning and 6 in the evening, for a period of 29 or 30 days. After that, there's a big celebration called the 'Eid al-Fitr', which literally translated means: the "Festival of Breaking the Fast".

Yeah I was/am the same way! The older that I got I was more excited by the holiday cooking, family gatherings, and decorations. My parents always made a big deal out of holidays and I did the same for my own family. But I did not go as far as not wanting presents! I have never refused a gift! Oh No!;) present:

Ugh... I hate it. The freaking city had Christmas decorations up the TUESDAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN!!!

I have never ever ever seen decorations go up this early. It is absolutely ridiclous.
