Hey you guys, I am 22y/o so I was not even born during the years when Good Times was on TV. However, when I watch shows like "Good Times" or "What's Happening", it kinda makes me wish that I was a teenager in the 70s because it looks like life really was a lot of fun back then. I know that the music was hella great back then - there was Donna Summer, France Joli, Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, Jackson 5...the music was slammin' back then. And the music also meant something...not the nasty crap we listen to today. Also, the dance moves were HOT! The sitcoms were also funnier e.g. Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, All in the Family...I think that these sitcoms are better than the sitcoms that we watch today because when I watch these sitcoms I actually learn from them or relate to them in some way. With the sitcoms of today e.g. Girlfriends, One on One, Raven, Half & Half, etc...I'm sorry, but I cannot relate to anything on those shows. Generally, it looks like life was exciting back in the 70s.

For those of you who were not born in the 70s: when you watch shows like GT and WH, do you sometimes wish that you visit the 70s for a week to experience what life was like back then?

To those of you were were around in the 70s: how was life back then? Was it really that exciting?

No music can compare to the funk, r&b, soul, etc. that was then. I loved the style of the era. Everyone was loving the music. There was no hate in the words, there was no negativity in them. some older people thougt too much "making love" connotation to them, but hey, that's what made it so hot. Just watching Soul Train back then was DA BOMB. Don Cornelius, the show isn't the same without him. I loved the shows like Good Times, WH, and all that. It seemed so simple a time and yet so much fun. I miss that era. I miss the REAL MUSIC, the funk style, the bands that PLAYED THEIR INSTRUMENTS. It was just jammin', what can I tell you. Thanx for the memories.

Yeah, when I watch anything from the 70s, it just looks like it was hard to get bored with life back then. I watch old 70s shows sometimes, and yeah I agree with you that even soul train w/ Don Cornelius was better. W/ Don Cornelius, Soul Train was simple but fun for EVERYONE. But with the current host, it looks like Soul Train is all about who dances or dresses the sexiest. THANX FOR SHARING Ireneparalegal :hug:

I wasn't born in the 70's I was born in 81, and sometimes I wish I could go back to those days and live as a 16/17 yr old for a week or so. I love 70's music that's what I grew up around mostly, my mom listened to a radio station that played nothing but 70's music. And to this day people are surprised when I start to sing along to music from back then, Also if you like 70's music you should buy Wattstax, that's a great documentary. I love love love 70's blaxploitation films, My mom use to tell me that I should have been born in the 70's. I can say that I do remember watching Soul Train on Saturday mornings with Don Cornelius hosting in the early and mid 80's. I don't know if the times were simpler back then, probably not, but they sure looked fun.

well, I was a teenager in the 70s, and I don't think life was as good as it is today! For one thing, the only way to see a movie back then was to go to a theater and see it, and if you missed it when it came out, the only option you had was to hope it would be rereleased, or wait for the edited, ad-inflamed, "cropped" (non-wide screen) version to come to TV (which sometimes didn't happen as fast as they do now-with certain movies, you had to wait YEARS to see them on TV!! For instance "Cool Hand Luke" came out in 67 and didn't come to TV until 73!!!!)

And, if you missed a TV show when it was on, the only option was to wait for the rerun-sometimes MONTHS!

Well, personally, I loved the shows from the 70's ... . Good Times, What's Happening, Odd Couple, Welcome Back Kotter, Barney Miller, Baretta, Starsky and Hutch, SWAT, etc, etc. I could go on and on. I grew up watching all of those shows. Things were definitely MORE simple back then but then again the 70's would most certainly be considered more complex than the 1950's and so on. I don't know if it's good to say that one decade is better than another, per se. We certainly have more conveniences today--e.g., from cell phones to drive-through's, to season sets on dvd, to cable/satellite, etc. When I was growing up, there was only five channels to choose from and that was that. The ABC, CBS, and NBC affiliates plus a PBS channnel, plus an independent local channel and that was it. Not the 200, 300 channels to choose from today. LOL! Plus as Treky correctly points out, back then if you missed a program, you basically missed it. You would have to wait around to see if it would be aired again---months later---or you would have to be content that you missed it. Period. No VCR's, no dvd releases, etc. I'm a sucker for anything/everything from the 1970's---the TV shows, the music, the movies. From classic rock to pop to disco, I love it all. LOL! But I definitely love the old shows from the 70's better than what's on today. They are classics in the true sense of the word. And, oh yes, I also remember watching Soul Train on Saturday afternoons. LOL!

I never saw GT until about 2001 or so. I have been watching other 70's shows since like '93 and I would have been 4 or 5 at the time. (Behold the power of Nick at Nite). Well anway I would have loved to be there at the time. I know a lot of stuff happened during the 70's but I am sure you would get used to it and I would not seem as bad during the fact.
