In my eyes, when Mama Mabel King was no longer on the show, that is when the show was no longer any good. To me, Mabel was a part of the show. It was like Esther Rolle all over again. A mother leaving her kids alone.

I agree with you Irene, it was another James Evans move. Mabel King's presence was a necessary part of the show IMO. Unlike Good Times when they killed James, I still thought it was watchable.

It truly jumped the shark when they moved into that apartment.

I think they moved into the apt. too soon. I think we still could had the 3rd season at home yet. The 3rd season could've been a lot better, but I think some lousy writing helped crash the show. There were some pretty bad episodes. I think the best episodes focused on Shirley. As much as I like the Shirley character I didn't like her moving into the Thomas house and becoming the "surrogate" mother.

Besides, didn't ABC cancel the show bwcause Ernest "Lee" Thomas and Fred Berry wanted way too much money to keep the show going?
