This was a good starting point for the series, though it didn't focus as much on the players as later episodes would. I remember watching this show as a kid along with Welcome Back Kotter and wondering if I'd make it in high school because the "kids" on these shows were so big and I was still pretty much a little kid. On this episode they said Hayward was 15 years old and Thomas Carter looked like he was 21, 22.

The funny thing about this series was that the actors who played the students were all in their 20s. Some were pushing 30! The guys who played Thorpe and Salami and Stoney Jackson were the youngest and they were all about 20 years old when they started in the series, yet the funny thing is I doubt that at that time they could've gotten actors of their caliber who were actually 15-17 years of age to do those parts.

Thomas Carter was more like near 30 when this show was made.
