Who is your fave character and why?

My favorite was Jodie. As a 15 year old I was coming to terms with being gay. Billy Crystal
didn't play Jodie as a stereotype, he made Jodie a whole person. He brought a warm, funny, sensative, dignified presence to the first openly gay character on TV. He made me and other gay teens realize we were not alone.

My favorite was Jodie, too-the most normal person on the show! Everyone else was crazy, dumb, or emotional. Billy Crystal brought a soft and subtle dignity to Jodie Dallas that is a joy to watch. He also had a hell of a way to deliver a line; some hilarious one-liners were his. One of my favorite moments in the series was in Episode 81 when Jodie is drunk and keeps falling off the bed. He made me laugh and cry; he was amazing.

I have always been a Bert fan. It always cracked me up everytime he saw Jodie and Carol's baby and he said "Bloo Bloo Bloo Grandpa" and he was making the moose antlers with his hands.

For me, it's Benson, followed closely by Burt Campbell. You could count on either of them to deliver the laughs (usually BIG laughs) whenever they were on the screen.

Jessia WAS my favorite and the show if you ask me. Corrine is my second favorite. She Mary and Jodie were the normal ones in the later years. First episodes Jodie had issues. I know he was gay but he really played it up and then he calmed down. He was wearing his mother's dress and wig during episode 2.

favorite male characters:
I liked most of the male characters in Soap!
Female:
Elaine and Mary. All the rest were so "stereotype" females, like sort of stupid, naive, second to the husband, etc.

Jodie 1st - Burt 2nd!

I would have to say Jessica Tate she can be so ridiculous at times but that represents her and shapes her personality.

I loved Burt, Bob (aside from Chuck), Benson, The Major, and Elaine. Jessica was good, too, but sometimes she got on my nerves, although I appreciate her outlook on life.

Jessica was my favorite for this reason too but deep down she always seemed like a person who really didn't know where she fit in the world due to her innocence. She was definitely no fool and made it very clear to Chester.

I always liked Benson and Chester too. But then I liked them all in one way or another.

Benson, Jessica, and Jodie. All memorable characters, not to mention fabulous acting.

Chuck was my favorite character. He made Bob seem so real. Also, liked their matching outfits.

Benson and Jodie were my favorites. Benson was hilarious, and how can you not like Jodie? Billy Crystal brought a lot to that character, and did a wonderful job.

Any of them except DUTCH.....I am watching Season 3 now, and he has become the most worthless character. From Murderer, to cook, to crybaby, it is a disturbing metamorphisis.

My revised list: Burt, Jessica and Bob were my favorite characters. Burt had the great physical mannerisms and Bob had the greatest lines. Jessica, she was ditzy but I always loved the few serious moments she had on the show.

My favorite character was Mary. She was always so level-headed (minus the time Burt really DID disappear) and warm and compassionate. She added a "grounded" element to an otherwise totally zany show. Plus, Cathryn Damon's deadpan antics were HILARIOUS.

SO hard to choose who was my favorite...Jessica's naive comments were just the best, Burt's body jestures were side splitting hilarious, Benson's one liners could make anyone snicker, Jodie's "feminine" ways were classic, and of course Bob just stole the show... BUT my pre-pubescent self used to just drool over Danny...go figure!!!

Benson, because he was the only sane member and he was funny with it. He always had a comback. I also liked Chuck and Bob. They were funny in their own way.

Mary, when I first saw the show in reruns I was a teen and I loved how Mary loved her family. I am very loyal once you become my favorite I do not change that feeling.

Burt, Richard Mulligan is a comic genius. I can't think of anyone else being cast in this role.
Benson

When I was younger and watched it, my favorite characters were Chuck and Bob, Danny and Elaine and Burt and Mary. Whether loving or fighting, I just thought Danny and Elaine had fantastic Chemistry, and thought it interesting how they got together in the first place (so Danny could leave the mob and not have to do it in a pine box). Chuck and Bob were just so quick-witted. Loved them. And Burt and Mary because Burt was so funny and Mary was so stable and sane, and was a great mother, wife and sister.

Now that I'm older and have watched the shows on DVD, Burt and Mary are tied for first place with me.To me, it's all about those two. Mary is so beautiful, caring, and she loves her family NO MATTER WHAT.She has unconditional love for all of them. Burt is just soooo funny and has a huge heart. I love these two characters.

Danny Dallas! He may have been a mobster but wow, was he good-looking! :happyface

I also liked Jessica and Benson a lot, although I must admit I like Benson's character more on his own show. Since he's the main character you get a lot more insight to his personality and talents. :)

I have to say Gregory Sierra as El Puerco because he was always a hottie. I must admit I was jealous of Katherine Helmond's Jessica. I wanted to be her so he could carry me in the tent and row me in the canoe!!

Speaking of Katherine Helmond, I would count her Jessica as my favorite female character. She was so wacky, but so vulnerable at the same time. You just wanted to be her friend. I've enjoyed her in every role I've seen her in. I was amazed at her dark, dramatic turn as Elizabeth Montgomery's sister in The Legend of Lizzie Borden. :clap

My favourite character is Timothy Flotsky. Sal Viscuso is a comic genious. I wish they would have kept him on the show. I loved him & Corinne together. I also like Burt, Danny, Elaine & of course Jody.

I'm gonna go with Benson. He had such a dry wit and was an island of normalacy in a sea of madness.

Burt was also pretty amazing; no one on the show had a better sense of comic timing than Richard Mulligan.

And Chuck/Bob were a great combo as well.

Chuck and Bob.

I have to say, I really like Chester too. He's such a git, yet Robert Mandan brings this almost childlike irresponsibility to him that makes him impossible to dislike.

Yes, Robert Mandan is truly one of the most underrated character actors.

Yeah, I always looked forward to Chester's stuff. His pathetic excuses to Jessica, his relationship with Benson, the fact that he really did seem to love Jessica but when it comes to hot young women he's like a kid in a candy store who just can't help himself... Robert Mandan always cracked me up.
