I read an article about the real life stuggle at Wikipedia that the story is based on. I find it very interesting. I am going to get the book that the movie is written from. At the IMDB I saw very mixed reviews on it. Some where saying it was the best movie ever and others were saying that it was the worse. I haven't seen it yet I will wait until I get the book but what do you all think of it?

Hmm... It's been a while since I've seen the film. It's okay, as I recall. The book is much, much better. I read it before I saw the film. Perhaps because I was aware of the story the film seemed better to me. Films, of course, are limited by time constraints. This story cannot be fully explored in a two hour (or whatever its length) movie. I've read the book several times. Hmm... (again)... Maybe I'll dig it out and read it again.

Wasn't Alive that film about the true story about a hockey team whose plane crashed and then they were trapped in the snow and it took a long time for anyone to search for them? I know that there was also a documentary about this movie as well. I remember seeing previews of Alive and I can never figure out how this film scored big in 1993

It was about a rugby team from Uruguay who crashed in Chile. I don't think ice hockey is widely played in Uruguay. They play field hockey down there.

It's a very good and inspirational movie. James Newton Howard did a great score for it. I own the book (Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors by Piers Paul Read) the movie is based on.
