View Full Version : Do You Think Christine Would Have Gotten Together With Dan?
ClassicTVGal 10-30-2005, 12:42 AM I did watch most of the Marathon this past summer and remember watching close to the end of the show and maybe bits of the Finale, and yes I know it has been a big topic here.
But afer skimming through many posts, I don't see how they had Dan 'al lof a sudden' in love with Christine and wanting to follow her? And too bad about her and Harry... talk about "bleh" on the writer's!! (lol)
But do you honestly think she would have gotten together with him??
I don't, and yes, I haven't seen the *complete* series yet, but by the many that I have, I just don't see it. I mean for one thing she always seems to hate his guts!! lol (I can defint. lean towards that, lol)
I did read once, and I think NitCrt1 posted it, about Christine telling Harry that she wanted to go see them scrap gum off the benches (or something) one last time. She exits and then runs back to him saying she's miss him the most. (Aww) Now that was good on the writer's part, but come on!
HaskellGirl 10-30-2005, 01:45 AM Yes, she did tell Harry she'd miss him the most and kissed him. And then later, when Dan tells Harry that he's going to follow Christine, after he leaves, Harry says "MY Christine?!" So he thought of Christine as his and I'm sure Harry and Christine got together, since both of them loved each other. Dan...well, maybe he found someone else!
DeafAngel 10-30-2005, 02:05 AM maybe you're right.... maybe Dan found Patty Douglas. Remember her? from the episode "Married Alive" season 2. just curious... maybe Patty went and ask for help about how to survive without being rich... so she can be with Dan... soemthing like that... i don't know.
nitcrt1 10-30-2005, 12:11 PM You know who else I always thought Dan could have ended back up with? I thought he and his State Assembly opponent Joan Hobbeson could have found each other again. He was pretty heartbroken when she left. I remember that episode. Towards the end after Joan has left, some trampy girl wants to "go out" with him and he turns her down saying, "Not tonight, I have a heartache." It was the second time Dan showed true emotion for a woman.
I just never thought Dan and Christine were the right match. I thought Harry and Christine understood each other more and had a strong emotional bond. In the episode where Christine writes a children's book, she includes Harry by calling him her "special friend." Of course while that's happening, the man who was interested in Christine's book is supposedly looking at naked illustrations of Christine that Dan had done by the artist Christine hired. The pictures got mixed up. So as Christine is reading her story, while the guy is following along, she mentions Harry as being her "special friend". The guy looking at the naked picture of Christine says, all excited, "lucky man." It was hilarious.
hazlenut 10-30-2005, 05:34 PM ok, I know what I'm up against here but I'm going to say it anyway. Yes, I do think it's very possible that Dan and Christine could have got together. If you watch the finale, which I know alot of people would rather not acknowledge, as far as we know Harry stayed in NY and Dan left to pursue Christine. I know I'm in the minority here but I just never saw the "spark" between Harry and Christine that everyone else saw. To me, Harry and Christine had childish fights, not lover's quarrels. I always saw a spark between her and Dan and she showed many times over that she did care about him. so, yes I think it's very possible that they got together.
HaskellGirl 10-30-2005, 06:24 PM I think the finale left things open actually...so you can interpret it how you want or just think "wow, what a crazy ending..I wonder what's going to happen next!!" Personally, I think Christine and Harry loved each other and somehow found their way back to each other. I'm hoping Dan found someone he loved that loved him back as well. I'm not saying there is no way in hell that Christine could ever care for Dan...I think she did care for him, as a friend. But she and Harry had a mutual love for each other...I think Harry had a place in her heart that no one else could ever fill.
ClassicTVGal 10-30-2005, 07:31 PM OK, I know I went a bit overboard about the 'Christine hating Dan's guts' thing, but sometimes I feel she did and yes others, not. And I know that she felt pretty bad when she thought he had died.
But I guess I just don't see Dan & Christine as a couple or *that* close, like Harry and Christine definately seem to be.
And I just thought, it'd be *very* interesting to see what it would have been like if they thought Harry was dead instead of Dan. Would have to really change the scenerio, but makes you wonder a bit.

I don't, ...QUOTE]
Actually, based on the end of the show, I could see Christine and Dan getting together. She would have gone for his "bad boy" appeal. They just wouldn't have stayed together unless Dan grew up. Over the long haul, Harry and Christine would have gotten together after she had 'walked on the wild side' with Dan.

Yes I am not the only one! Dan was like a small boy wanting a girls attention....but with adult antics. I could see them getting together. Just because Dan went to Christine does he have to majorly change. Yes, be faithful, but think about how those antics would be with them as a couple! Christine needed someone who could push her buttons and get her to loosen up. To me, "Giving Thanks" was the beginning. When he told her how he felt and how she responded....she didn't say no.
I loved Harry....but those two were at their best when they were friends. Not many shows will have a b/f relationship w/ a man and a woman as adults.
I see it as this.....Harry chose to stay in NY while Christine went to DC. Dan was the one who resigned to go follow her. Show's something for me. The two of us can't be the only ones who feel this way......
Maybe a fanfic is in order.....
Nope. I think that really was a device invented by the last season of the show. Dan was too in love with becoming rich and infamous to really fall in love, which really misses the whole point of the character completely. I swear some people don't pay attention...
markaleen 01-28-2012, 04:31 PM I just can't wrap my mind around the idea of Dan/Christine. I think that they, aside from his constant comments, they had a good friendship. When they have more Dan/Christine centered episodes it seems to always narrow down to the respect Dan has for Christine and Christine I think can really see his more, I guess human side. But. for me at least, there was never that spark like during Harry/Christine based episodes or moments. Like the episode where they end up in the coat closet and Harry says, "If I weren't a judge and you weren't working in my court... what I mean is, if I knew someone exactly like me, I know he'd be crazy about someone exactly like you." So I think throughout most of the series they were pretty, I don't want to say open because I don't think that's the best word... I guess they were aware for lack of a better word about their feelings. Most of the time.I think they could have made season 9 very interesting if they had got them together. It would have been different, but a good different. In my opinion, the way Harry grabbed Christine and kissed her in Central Park, there is NO way that he could only want to be 'just friends with her' after.
I could go on forever and ever but I really have to go.
