Sandy Baron, who most recently played "Jack Klompus" -- the condo neighbor who continually battled with Jerry's dad -- on "Seinfeld," passed away in a Van Nuys nursing home on Sunday, January 21, 2001.
Gosh, Sandy was one of my first "TV crushes" when he starred in the late 60's comedy show "Hey Landlord!" A pre-teen living in Southern California, I felt sure that every New York City resident had to be like Sandy's character, "Chuck Hookstratten" -- friendly, cute, and quick-with-a-quip. <laugh>
What a wonderful talent -- Sandy's famous stage show about the life of comedian Lenny Bruce was brilliant.

His appearances on Seinfeld were highlights, always a cool time ahead when Sandy Baron was on the show.

Sandy Baron (born Sanford Irving Beresofsky; May 5, 1936 – January 21, 2001) was an American comedian who performed on stage, in films, and on television.
Of particular interest to me to learn, Sandy Baron had a notable side career in music:
Baron wrote music too, starting out at the Brill Building in New York with 1961 songs like Flying Blue Angels and Adam Wade's The Writing on The Wall. Later co-writing Lou Rawls hit A Natural Man with Bobby Hebb (Sunny) in 1971. Sandy wrote and recorded a number of comedy albums including The Race Race and God Save the Queens co-written with Reverend James R. McGraw, editor/writer of Dick Gregory's books.
Throughout his career he opened for Neil Diamond, The Fifth Dimension, Bobby Vinton, Anthony Newley, Diana Ross and others.
And so it goes.
