Have you ever felt old because of something a child said or asked?

Yesterday, I mentioned how a few of the toys from the 1980's have made a "come back" and my little sister's reaction was, "Dang!!! Were you born in the '80's!?" I told her, "No, I was born in the 70's." Her reaction to that was, "Dang!!!!!! That was back in the groovy days right?" :lol:

It was really funny, but at the same time it made me feel old compared to her since she was born in the '90's. All the "old" toys that have become popular again are "new" to her.

:lol: Ha ha ha, that is funny!! That sounds like one of those moments, that you wish afterwards you would have gotten on film. LOL!! I always find it funny when you mention well known singers from the 80's, or 90's, or a classic artist such as Elton John to a kid, and they respond by saying: Who's he??? I usually think they're joking when they say that, but when I find out they're not, it's like WHAT!!! You haven't heard of Elton John?? :eek: Someone not knowing about a singer such as Elton John, regardless of their age, never ceases to shock me.

I was talking about playing Atari one day and my 13 year old nephew said, "What's Atari?" :lol:

I agree, though! I have also felt that way in here when I remembered all the good old late 80s/early 90s pop culture. There are some SO-ers who were born IN that era, so it's like, "Ahhhh!!!" LOL! Yep, makes me feel quite old when they had NO clue what I was talking about... :blush:

I was born in the mid-80's so I have a pretty good memory of living in the 80's, alas as a little kid (I really wish I had been older when I was living in the 80's...). As a result, that means I remember a TON of toys that my sibs and I played with back then, plus life in general. I played with/watched the original counterparts that were out back then. My Little Pony, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, Nintendo Entertainment System (unfortunately, I missed out on playing Ataris, Intellivision and the Commodore 64), etc...I remember when virtually nobody owned cell phones or car phones; only the wealthy and businesspeople had them. There was practically no such thing as a PC because the Macintosh dominated the computer market in the 80's. Bill Gates was still working on becoming huge in the computer world. The first computers I remember clanking away at were Apples, which made a lot of noise when you typed on it. I learned how to type on a real keyboard and an Apple. Obviously, it was much easier to learn on an Apple computer. :lol: The good 'ole 5" floppy disks were still around and I'm sure the 3" floppy disks were still expensive back then. They WERE around in the 80's but again, they were rarely seen. Sigh...in remembering the 5" floppy disks, remember how the disk drives had external units of their own, and how it had a lever-sort of thing on the front that you had to slide down or flip down into place, to prevent the disk from flying out? Ahhhhh, memories.

I love having to explain to my niece (8) and nephew (10) that there was a time before they were born when everyone didn't carry a cell phone with them, we didn't "Tivo" a TV program, we "taped" it, and only rich people had TVs in thier cars.
