This is one of the things I missed about the early Happy Days years. Fonzie was more vulnerable inside. In the episode where Richie convinces him to go back to high school for a while, in the last scene Fonzie tells Richie that he has dropped out and will be happy just being a mechanic.

Fonzie says, "Like you said, I'm the Mickey Mantle of the grease pit. I figure hot rods and drag racing will be around for a while. Like duck tails and Buddy Holly."
