View Full Version : Hello I'm new here at the Sanford and Son message board
DarleneIllyria 10-15-2000, 06:32 PM Hello everybody
My name is Jenny and I am 16 years old. I am a Junior in highschool. The thing with me is I love all the "classic" shows. Some of my favorite shows include "The Andy Griffith Show", "Sanford and Son", "My Favorite Martian", "The Incredible Hulk", "Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C", "The Courtship of Eddie's Father", and "All in the Family".
My whole family loves the tv show "Sanford and Son". My favorite episode is "Superflyer". The part where Fred yells on that plane I ain't gonna make it is so funny.

DarleneIllyria 04-06-2001, 05:10 PM Hey yall!
I'm so sorry it took me so long to post a response. I have had so many school projects due and haven't had much internet time. I just may join yall on the Chico board. Thanks for the invite. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
Hope yall are both having a wonderful day!
D.Ternowski 04-07-2001, 11:52 AM Sanford and Son was a great show, especially the early ones where the majority of the show had only Fred and Lamont on stage talking. They were great actors. In later years it seemed to lose a bit of humor and they tried to add different characters or give the relatives and friends bigger roles in the show. I don't understand why the character Julio was added. There was a great episode where Julio was robbed and Fred saw who the robbers were but refused to get involved. Some of the jokes got tired after telling the same joke over and over such as Fred's distaste for his sister-in-law.
DarleneIllyria 04-07-2001, 02:51 PM D.Ternowski:
Well, the only episodes that I wasn't too fond of was when Redd Foxx left the show and Grady's character moved into the Sanford home to take care of Lamont. I am so glad that Redd came back!!
Tracy-Prinze 04-07-2001, 06:07 PM hi jenny,
that would be great if you could join the "chico and the man board" also. you will be a great a addition. yes it did take away from the show when they had julio on there and when redd foxx left. i am glad that he returned because he is the reason why the show is called sanford and son not grady and son. i love grady too but the show is not the same without redd.
D. Ternowski 04-07-2001, 07:15 PM I sort of liked the character of Shady Grady but in small amounts. He moved in the house when Fred was away for what seemed like 6 or 7 shows in a row. Thankfully Fred decided to return. Without Lamont though the show would not have appealed to me. For reasons that I'm not sure of, Redd Foxx revised the role of Fred Sanford in a 1980 television show called "Sanford" and Lamont was not part of the show. Fred had a different business partner. It was unwatchable. It lasted a season or less. I saw it 3 or 4 times and don't remember one funny moment.
A classic show that I remember was when Lamont changed his name to Kalunda and started to wear a dashiki. Lamont thought that Fred was embarassing him in front of his friends and they went to the kitchen and argued loudly out of camara range. After the arguement both Fred and Lamont walked back into the living room smiling.
I remeber the "Sanford" show also but it didn't make much of an impression on me. I can not recall any of the plots. I believe on the Sanford show, Fred lived in the same house and also was a junk dealer. Why his partner was not Lamont is a mystery to me. His partner was very overweight and Fred made a lot of fat jokes which were not funny. I think Fred mentioned Lamont's name in one episode but I'm not sure. It wasn't the same without Lamont. I'm pretty sure it lasted less than a season. I think it came on in February 1980 and went through August 1980 until it was cancelled.
The Sanford show actually lasted a season and a half. The first season wasnt that bad....but season 2....uggg.The jokes werent funny and the crowd wasnt laughing.
Season 1 started with Lamont being in Alaska working on the pipeline.Chicken farmer Cal (dennis burkley)had a wad of money and wanted to be a partner in a business.Of course Fred couldnt resist to get some money. What he didnt know was Cal ate like a horse and his expenses far exceeded what money he gave Fred.Rollo was on the show as was Fred's new girlfriend and her brother (who hated Fred). Also,an ugly housekeeper at her "mansion" in Beverly Hills.Esther and Woodys adopted son also was on the show, but he was full grown and not the same actor that was on an earlier S&S episode. He was in love with the daughter of Fred's girlfriend...her name was Cissy.
As you can tell I watched almost all of those episodes. One even featured Sammy Davis Jr.That was a pretty funny one.
Cal one time was on a diet to get a girl, and when he stepped on the scales, you could hear sound effects of springs popping and twanging. There were lots of references to his size and weight....it seems though the live audience loved most of them.(howls would go on and on..).
To P: I have read your interesting comments on the Sanford and Son page and the Chico and the Man page. I agree with your Chico post. Your comments are very interesting and I hope you will continue to post every so often. You must have a good memory to remember the "Sanford" show. It was over 20 years ago and there are details that you can still remember.
Thanks Alan....when it comes to certain things I have a good memory!
EggyToast 09-26-2001, 01:14 AM Speaking of which, I had a question. What was the drink that Fred was always drinking? I'm pretty sure it started with an "R," but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.
Anyone?
DarleneIllyria 09-26-2001, 10:01 AM Are you thinking about Ripple (sp?) ? I'm not too sure of the spelling, but Fred was always drinking ripple.

Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud?
Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit.
Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit.
Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger.
[Eddie and Lumpy suppress laughter]
EggyToast 09-26-2001, 09:13 PM Hmm, that sounds right. I was wondering if it was Rimple, or Ripple, or what. The search continues!
skp_sr 10-17-2001, 07:31 PM Just a question - What make, year, model was Fred Sanford's truck in the show?
DirtyHarry 09-15-2007, 11:27 AM Welcome aboard! It's nice to see someone so young who enjoys these TV classics instead of the trash so frequently put on. I agree with you that The SuperFlyer episode is one of the funniest...
