View Full Version : I can't believe during 1984 and 1992, no one on the show told Bill Cosby that he

I noticed that for the longest. You should have seen him trying to dance at the end of the movie, "A Piece Of the Action" He defined the 2 words, No Rythm.

But he stood out with those wacky moves and that in part is what made him funny. He would be acting silly for nothing. I copy those dances myself sometimes although I think I can dance a little better than that. It is part of his trademark.
mstewart 11-24-2005, 10:09 AM Bill was a horrible dancer especially in the second season opener where you saw that he cannot dance.

It was nothing funny about watching him dance, at all

I always found it funny, even just his facial expressions
80sTrivia 11-28-2005, 04:50 PM I used to dance along with the Huxtables during the opening of the show each week as a kid... I danced better than Cliff!!! :happyface

Everybody danced better than Cliff
get a life people, that was the whole point of the opener of the show, he couldn't dance!!! Vanessa shows how embarrassed she is in season's opener and he just doesn't care, it is what his character is all about. His dancing was disigned to make you laugh, which it did. If you didn't get it, you shouldn't have been watching the show!! Don't dis Mr. Cosby

If you say so
robby76 12-07-2005, 02:35 AM As kids we used to laugh at Cliff's inability to dance in the opening credits. Our Dad dances like that so it made it hysterical!
Lighten up Retro... don't be so cynical about every little thing. It gets tired. Let people enjoy their fun.

Well that's what it probably is, the dance was created to make children laugh. But even as a child, I didn;t like GOOFY TV DADS, i prefer TV DADS that wasn't GOOFY like Uncle Phil, James Evans, and George Jefferson

Your saying George Jefferson and Uncle Phil weren't goofy from time to time...?

I don't remember George or Uncle Phil being Goofy. Especially Uncle Phil.

Just the way George always thought he was so tough and he would act stupid sometimes, and Uncle Phil got goofy sometimes when he was trying to be sneaking or right before he would punish will...

I'll give you that, but Even though all of cliff's dances were bad they were original unlike george's walk (even though I love that walk)

Where have you been? LOL.

nerrad 12-15-2005, 12:02 PM I think Bill's dances were part of his act. I've even seen pictures of him dancing like that at dinners/affairs whenever he is in town.

Ok I will admit he did do a good job dancing in a season 1 episode when all the funiture was moved out of the living room and it was like a big dance party.
Brian Damage 12-15-2005, 12:34 PM Bill Cosby was supposed to be goofy. If he wasn't, the show wouldn't be funny.

But it is possible to be funny without being goofy isn't it?-lol
ladybug1980 11-27-2013, 08:35 PM I think the whole underlying theme to Cosby "dancing" in the opening credits was to SHOW that he couldn't dance. Cosby wasn't actually trying to dance to prove he could dance, he was trying to actually SHOW that he COULDN'T dance; this was to add to the humor of it all.

but it wasn't funny
ladybug1980 11-27-2013, 09:19 PM I thought it was kind of funny. Not enough to make me laugh or anything, but it's alright to me.
ThomasE 11-27-2013, 10:06 PM It was funny. I would chuckle. He does his "Cosbyisms". He brands himself. I think it is funny and light hearted. He is not coming off as ghettoesque.

That reminds me of an episode of The Golden Girls, when Dorothy's twentysomething son, Michael, is engaged to a black woman twice his age, Lorraine. The catch is, Michael didn't tell Dorothy how much older his fiancee was, and Lorraine neglected to tell her own mother that Michael was white. So, naturally, hilarity ensues.
Anyway, when they're waiting for Lorraine's family to show up, Rose blurts out, "Dorothy, I just realized something: Lorraine's family is going to be black, too, aren't they?" And Dorothy replies, "Yes, Rose. You know, you could probably make them feel welcome if you do your version of that dance that the Huxtables do at the beginning of The Cosby Show." She was referring to the Season 5 Caribbean-style opening. As a wee kid, I used to love that intro and would attempt to copy it, but it's even more hilarious trying to envision an old lady doing the same thing.

Bonniegirl 10-14-2015, 12:52 PM He danced like a drunk uncle at a wedding reception!!! LOL at family weddings doesn't it seem like our old uncles are dancing all goofy thinking they look cool, and everyone's kind of laughing at them!!!
