I thought Kids In America by Kim Wilde was a happy peppy song, until I read what the song was about. Kids living in poverty!

I thought "Happy Together" by the Turtles was a happy song, but the happiness is in the narrator's imagination! ("Imagine me and you, I do. . . ,")

"I Started a Joke"-- The Bee Gees....judging by the title, you'd think we were in for a barrel of laughs.

The song "Last Kiss" its about this guy and girl are on a date and they crash the car and she dies, Ive heard the orignal and it has this happy/upbeat sound to it, but then I heard Pearl Jam's version and they make it sound sad the way its suppose to be

Hammer To Fall- By Queen.

It sounds like a great heavy rock song with an upbeat guitar solo....and it's about nuclear war.

Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson

The song sounds slightly upbeat until you listen to the lyrics. The song talks about poor kids and people who don't have any place to go.

Wanna Be Startin Somethin by Michael Jackson

The song has an upbeat peppy sound, but listen to the lyrics and they are not upbeat or peppy at all until the 180 degree change at the last stanza, starting from "Lift your head up" until the last "Mama sa, mama coo"

Bruce Springsteen's, 'Born In The USA' sounds very upbeat, but I believe it's about Vietnam.

"That'll Be The Day" by Buddy Holly. The tune sounds very happy and upbeat, but listen to the lyrics:
"That'll be the day when you say goodbye. That'll be the day when you make me cry. You say you're gonna leave. You know it's a lie. 'Cause that'll be the day when I die."

What makes it more depressing than just listening to the song is the knowledge that Buddy Holly died in a plane crash when he was about 22 years old. Talk about depressing. ):
