View Full Version : Songs you didn't know were remakes before you heard the original songs?
Janice Johnson 10-14-2005, 11:35 AM I am not talking about the oldies songs you grew up on, and now, in modern times hear them remade, like a 60's song that Destiny';s Child decided to remake. No. I am talking about songs you hear nowadays and think they are NEW,, then go to an oldies station and find it as a 60s/70's song.:D That happened to me, but the "new" song I heard was from the 80's, so it's "old" now. It is a remake of a 60's song.
You Keep Me Hangin' On by Kim Wilde 1986(Modern Hit)(though it's almost 20 years old.;)
You Keep Me Hangin' On by The Supremes(Oldie hit)40 years old;) I have Majic 102.7(Oldie Radio Station that plays 60's and 70's song hits) on memory on my cassette player, and I just hit the Majic button, to see what song was on. I changed it, and as I was changing/after I changed it, I noticed that the song that was playing sounded very familir so I went back to Majic and I realized I was listening to YKMHO, and I was like Kim Wilde's version is a REMAKE? I listened to the Supreme's version and realized that I like Kim's version better, though Supreme's version is okay.:)

Penny Lane 10-19-2005, 03:38 PM The first time that I watched the musical "The Music Man" and they sang "Till There Was You". I was really so proud that they had included a Beatles song in the score! I was only 14 at the time and I thought that it was an original Beatles song(which they had recorded on their first album:lol: I was thinking ......Wow! This is so cool! Yay Beatles!
RustyShackleford 10-19-2005, 06:02 PM Light My Fire by The Doors, im not sure who made it first but ive heard one version where its just some guy singing it

Jose Feliciano recorded Light my fire AFTER The Doors. The song was written by Doors guitarist Robbie Kreiger. The Doors version was released in 1967 and Feliciano's was released im 1968. I prefer The Doors version but I like both of them!:)
crystals 10-20-2005, 03:47 PM Gwen Stefani- "It's my Life"
Jessica Simpson- "I Wanna Love You Forever". I think Celine Dion sang the song before Jessica, but I'm not sure if Celine sang the original or not.

I haven't heard the song yet, but I looked up the lyrics to his version and I think I prefer Martika's version.

Ain't No mountain high enough was also done by Ashford & Simpson. They wrote the song.
Higher Ground also remade by Eric Clapton.
phoebe7165 10-27-2005, 12:44 AM I heard that "Just A Gigolo" by David Lee Roth was a remake but I don't know who did the original.
When I was a kid, I thought The Monkees originally did "I'm A Believer", then I found out it was Neil Diamond. I also thought "Red, Red Wine" was originally done by UB40, and Neil did that, too!!

Louis Prima did the original version of "Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody" before David Lee Roth covered it. I know you are talking about David Lee Roth. He's going to take over Howard Stern's place until he leaves Infinity at the end of December. According to the New York Radio Message Board and on Allan Sniffen's "Board Reflections".

The A*Teens also did a version of that song for the Lilo and Stitch soundtrack. I also found out that there is a CHINESE version to that song.

Thanks, Musicradio! I'm familiar with Louis Prima. He's mentioned quite a bit in the movie 'Big Night'. I didn't know that about DLR. First, I'm reading that he was training to be a paramedic, now he's going to be performing in Orlando, I think sometime next week.
