Does anyone know what the symptoms are before and when a dog gives birth? My dog is suppose to give birth and she's due Monday. I hear that before she gives birth, her temperature drops. What else is suppose to happen before she gives birth or when she is close to giving birth?
Thanks.

She'll be pretty restless and pace around alot and her breathing will become rapid. Part of the reason she'll be pacing around is she's looking for a safe spot to have them. A lot of books tell you to just leave her alone and don't interfere with the birthing process, DO NOT follow that advice. Dogs tend to get caught up in the cleaning process and forget to clean the pups air passage, if it looks like she is distracted by cleaning herself or the pup, make sure you have a clean warm dampened cloth ready to clean the air passages. I almost lost some pups reading those books, just some friendly advice;)

Ok thanx. By the way, did your dog give birth at night or in the morning? And is it more likely that a dog gives birth at night or no?

Which time? It doesn't really seem to matter really, I've had them have pups in the middle of the day and other times wake me up in the middle of the night to newborn puppies whining under my bed (which is also what happened with a kittie we rescued not long ago) You just have to keep an eye on how she's acting, she'll pant alot and become really restless. Just try to be near her when she goes, she most likely will appreciate the comfort :)
